The subject says it all. I was wondering what happens if a player preregisters for Rec or Int and then a ratings update makes it where they should play a higher division. Is the player forced to move up in this case? I know sometimes the financial difference can be a good amount.

If the event is within two weeks after the ratings update you may play in the division for which you pre-registered. If you are not pre-registered and your rating goes up, you must play up.

And if the event is not within two weeks of the update?

If the event is not within two weeks of the rating change, then you play in the division indicated by your rating.

The only exception would be if the event is part of a regional series that was approved by the PDGA for players to remain in the same division a player qualified for the first event they played in the series. Then, they could remain in that division for every series event regardless of any rating improvements. I haven't yet heard of any series getting that approval this year.

Thanks for the answers. I noticed a 939 rated player registered for INT for Bowling Green and didn't know if it was a special permission or something that just hasn't been handled yet. With that many people playing there is sure to be a lot going on.

What happens is that players preregister with an appropriate rating sometime before an official PDGA ratings update. Then their rating changes online automatically when the update gets posted and some players end up with ratings too high for that division. The TD and player(s) just adjust divisions accordingly when they get around to it before the event.
