I have been away from playing golf since before ratings started and have not carded a round since 1998. I recently renewed my pro card and I'm wondering, since my rating isnt over 970 or whatever the PDGA is allowing Pro players to compete in Ams, can I now take my 0 rating to a AM event to warm up for my return to Pro?

Basicly I'm wanting to comepte at the Melbourne Open Am C tier prior to the Melbourne Open pro event the following weekend.

TDs have control over what divisions players without ratings can enter whether members or not. Ask ahead of time so it's not a last minute decision for them, especially if they don't know you.

If the TD follows the rules, the TD cannot preclude you from playing in the division of your choice. TDs can preclude non-members from playing in the division of their choice, but members can play whereever their rating allows.

It is in the competition manual. (http://www.pdga.com/documents/2008/08CompetitionManual.pdf) See Rules 1.1(A), 2.1(A) and 2.1(J).

If I were you, I'd just sign up and play.
