:)That is AWESOME!!! :) Thanks for taking the lead on this Stacey. There are more things going on that SADC has been invited to host. When all the details have been made we will let you know. We are probably going to need some light weight discs for the Science Fair. If you have any used or new discs that the students can borrow (or keep) please let us know.
We have gone so far in such little time. I am VERY PROUD to be a member. :) Stay tuned.......

I will try and clear up the calendar for that day, Michaela has Saturday school, but I should be able to make it. Are they looking for lesson plans?

You know it is a Friday?
sciencet_cher
Feb 22 2008, 11:48 AM
Nope, just assumed it was a Saturday, silly me. Friday means that I can't be there (kids of my own to teach). I can still help with lesson plans, cross-curricular kind of stuff - physics combined with environmental with math, etc...

Sounds great.....any help you can offer. It can only benefit the kids!
Thanks :D

Found this on the web. I changed all the "frisbee" words to disc. Maybe something we can use?
Physics
Disc Golf Lab
1.a. Gravity
b. Gravity pulls the disc toward the center of the
earth.
c, The disc would stay suspended in air if gravity didnt
act upon it.
d. If you throw it off a second story building, it wont
resist gravity, but it will fly further.
2. a. Wind
b. Wind makes the path of the disc curve.
c. If there was no wind, the disc would go straight.
d. If you throw the disc on a windless day, the path it
makes will be straight.
3. a. Air friction
b. Air friction slows the disc down.
c. If there was a lack of air friction, the disc would
continue flying until another force acts upon it.
d. The only way to stop air friction is to put the disc in
a vacuum.

In addition, air friction is less at higher elevations because there is less air. Therefore discs thrown at higher elevations have a tendancy to flip or anhyzer more than discs thrown at lower elavations. Conversely discs thrown at lower eleavations have more friction working against them and have a tendancy to hyzer more.

All I know is 1+2+3=6, explains my scores.

now you are speaking the language of my students. It is so hard to explain to them that a circle and a square are two different shapes. :D:D

Actually it is just the opposite. Discs are much more stable at higher elevations.
Hola, my fellow SADC'ers :D.........I'm baaaaack! Well, at least body and spirit! As far as golf goes, I'm down for a month :( Thanks for all your prayers and extended hugs!
Guess, I have plenty of time for projects now! I plan to get with the school tomorrow and find out where we are at with science day! From there, I think it would be great if the club could meet for ideas and I could use some help with a project display for the kids. I'll keep everyone posted.
Hope to see y'all soon! Heard some of yen made a great bridge :cool:Way to go SADC!!!!

What happened to that long pallete that was the bridge on Hole 18? Is it still there or did it get moved over to hole 5? I think I've procured some more free materials to combine with that to make a small walking bridge on Hole 5 for when the water returns.
Most of it is laying next to where my truck was parked. We are going to use the bottoms as hand rails for the new bridge.

Ronnie and I tore it appart and are going to use the bottoms for hand rails on the new bridge. Jim Bob said he has other wood available to use for 5.

Oh man, that sounds like fun. I'm an elementary teacher myself, but I can definately take a day off to help out with this.

Attention all SADC members,
We are looking for volunteers to help demonstrate the science of disc golf at Longs Creek Elementary Science Day on March 28, 2008. This is an all day event (8am-3pm) with lunch provided. All interested individuals please contact me by Monday (Mar 24) for more info and to provide a head count for the school.
SADC is looking forward to this and would like to share this opportunity with at least 5 club members. The kids are the future so, let's show them the great sport of disc golf!
Thank you,

<font color="blue">Sweet, thanks!
Basically we will need to display the science of disc golf with visual and hands on demos. The age groups 5-7yrs will be hosted in the small field next to hole one. The bigger kids 8-12yrs will be hosted at McClain practice basket and holes 1-3. From what I've gathered there will be several staff and parents to assist us. We will have 3 sessions of 30-45 minute intervals in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.
If there's anything you think we need besides some tables and chairs; let me know.
I was also thinking of asking Jerry Lively if we could borrow his canopy tent for shade in the field just in case it's too sunny. There's no shade in the area and the little ones are delicate. I'll probably bring some sunscreen too.
I do have a member that can't attend who is a science teacher and has all kinds of information. Please feel free to gather up or start a project of your own. I'll be at the Saturday mini if you have anything to share.
I really appreciate you! We're going to have a blast! :D :)

WOW!!! I just want to send a HUGE THANK YOU out to Jeff Gobin. He really knows how to teach. I was really impressed with the way he gave his "Science of Disc Golf" classes. We kind of voted on Jeff to give all the sessions because he was so good at it. Thanks Again Jeff. :)
It was truly a great time for both students and volunteers. I would definetaly do it again next year, in fact we already got an invite. The Vice Principal had to come out to the course to see what all the students were talking about. I'm gonna go ahead and say it.....I think the Science of Disc Golf was a bigger hit then the hot air balloon.
Things I heard from students at Science Day:
"Man, Science Day is Cool" (after playing Disc Golf)
"You threw as far as a man" (Stacey throwing as far as me)
"Ouch!!!" (couple of students getting hit with a putter)
"Gravity pushed him down" (after a 5th grader fell)
"You want me to get the Nurse?" (1st grader telling me this when a classmate got tripped and fell)
I also heard about a cartwheel drive. She had the disc in her hand, did a cartwheel and then tossed it.
They were so exited about Disc Golf and I bet they are at home right now asking their parents to take them to McClain. ;)
One of the classes that stopped by
