got a spam email from hottub the other day. also seem to get alot from random disc companies. apparently the pdga plays it fast and loose with my personal email info. i'll be changing mine to unlisted. if you need to contact me about a suspension, use a PM. It's a useful tool.

Please note that there are two boxes: one for an Email address for administrative use only and which is not visible to other users, as well as a box for an Email address displayed in your profile. At the minimum, please provide the Email address for administrative use only. This e-mail address will not be available to anyone other than the moderators and will only ever be used if a warning / probation / suspension notice is to be sent to you. If you have privacy concerns, please feel free to the leave the Email address (displayed in profile) box blank.

As you can easily see in the bolded part of my previous message, listed above for your convenience, there is a box for listing your e-mail address that is for administrative use only and will not result in spam.

The standard procedure is for moderators to send warning / probation / suspension notice e-mails from the official moderator e-mail account, with a carbon copy to all the other moderators as well as the Communications Director. We cannot use the Private Message function because it does not allow the others to be carbon copied, and additionally, when there is a suspended user, they would never receive the notice until their suspension ends. When a user is suspended, they are unable to log into their acocunt and read Private Messages at all.

For this reason, we ask that you update the e-mail address for administrative use only in your profile. Moderators will not be held responsible if a user goes on probation or suspension and never finds out about it because they have an outdated or expired e-mail address (which they don't use anymore) listed in their profile.

Who is help responsible when there's a updated e-mail address and you still don't get an email about a Probation or Suspension and just happen to see your name on the list and don;t know why.

When I was a mod a lot of the stuff from the moderator account would show up as spam and be in that folder.

Just an FYI to people out there.

as sandalman mentioned... a lot has to do with listing email addresses in other places.... like if someone has typed in a message ... email me @ [email protected] then spam companies have crawlers that grab your address.

one way around that is to list your email as Name(at)yahoo.com or something like that.

Theres also a lot of other places they can get your address.

not saying the PDGA might not be selling the addresses ... just siting examples as to why you might get a lot of spam specific to dg. Another way is thru web searches... spyware... etc.

The spam could have come from your membership renewal too. There is a box on the PDGA membership form to check to opt out of disc golf related spam.
