Feb 06 2008, 02:13 PM
Monty,
with the tournament being so close the Azalea Festival (a huge event here in wilmington) we have never been able to secure a host hotel. and also every room in the town is booked to the gills that weekend. this year we are lucky in that we are holding the event the week after. but i still don't think any hotel will want to cut us a deal.
with that being said the Days Inn on Market St. has always been a sponsor of the tournament and the room prices are fare. book any room early becasue with us being at the beach and this being a spring tourney there are a lot of people in town.
as for you and all of my Charlotte brethren there will be limited floor space at case de DG. you for one are more than welcome to crash as well as any other chrlottians that you can talk into actually leaving town and coming to the beach. this is directed at you Big germ, Wisco, Mojo, R Kelly, Mr. mule, Mr. Mullet, and all others in the Queen City. please come feel the Payne!

Guys,
we have a workday this saturday at 9:00 a.m.. on the agenda are
1) Making the changes to and finalizing Phase 1 of the Hole 12 project
2) clearing ditches on the course to promote water flow in the event of hard rain
what we will need is pretty basic. we will need
1) multiple wheel barrows and shovels for the hole 12 project
2) lots of hard rakes for the ditch patrol
this work day should not be very long. if we have enough people we will break into groups. Hole 12 should take less than 1 1/2 hours. ditches could take all day but i think if we do it in stages we should be good. we may focus on the front 9 saturday and see where we are then think about a good stopping point.
all the help we can get would be greatly appreciated.

Well, no, actually I haven't. Frannie took her niece and I stayed here..... and played a tournament the first time. And as appealling as copious Cutt sweat is I'm thinking she'll still opt for the seven hour flight. As for myself, once you've seen Cutt pilot the "Glo-mobile" through the Louisburg woods at night.... most everything else pales in comparison. Still...... five gallons of sweat? Really? So some locals have expressed a desire to play Hole 10 in the left position which is the raised basket.
i would love to hear some discussion by the people here that have played this position and see what the general concensus is.

Mar 24 2008, 12:26 PM
Dave,
The left hand pin position forces most players (because most players are rightys) to throw a righty hyzer off the pad and a righty hyzer for the approach. For me this is the more boring and less challenging position.

Kirk
this is a good point kirk but here is the argument which i have always said. with the pin in the left raised position yes it is hyzer hyzer for righties BUT for me it is a much more controlled hyzer and a placement shot much more than the right pin position. if the pin is in the right i jsut crush a hyzer around the corner and if i am down there good and jsut a little in the woods it is just an easy flick or thmber to the right position basket. BUT if i am in the woods what so ever with good distance and the pin is in the left position the up shop is much more difficult. so the pin being in the left position makes me much less aggressive off the tee. so for me and many others it plays totally different from start to finish.
thanks a ton for the feed back this is exactly what i need

Hole 15 will be in it's "Origianl" placement about another 80' deeper and more to the right than last years placement. there will be socre seperation in this hole fore sure this year!! Make a 3 there make up a stroke on the field.

My 2 cents, It's a local tnmt, and as guests, we are certain to play there challenges. Raised baskets add additional difficulty, and a different though process. Disc's get a chance to dry out LOL. Love -em all. Put a Hooters Girl on the basket's.

Hole 10 2 rounds of each placement.......simple enuff.
actually is not that simple.
Now you are playing a totally different course according the ratings and then you can only compare the 2 rounds from each day to each other rather than comparing all 4 rounds which makes the ratings much more accurate.
Add another reason to play it in the original. Now you can compare rounds from last year to this year*. The new pin on 10 = new course = nothing to compare it to.
* since last year was the first time alt 1 was played, a "new course" was started.

This is a valid point but i am not sure how much that matters to me. my focus for this years tournament is providing the players the best course with the most challenge and variety of shots while maximizing the risk reward that is littered all over the castle. while it is true that last year was a new course with hole 1 being in a longer more chalenging (but fairer) placement it could also be argued that Chris lee's 56 in 2004 was unbelieveable even compared to the 54 that was shot last year due to the fact that the caslte's rough has thinned out so much in the last 3 years.
I am still on the fence about what to do with hole 10. it will be discussed at length at the meeting next tuesday. but all the banter here will way heavy so keep up the talk as always i want to make the decision that will make the greatest good.
what is set for sure is Hole 1 will be palyed in the long straight position all 4 rounds. Hole 15 will be played in the long positon all 4 rounds. other than that as of now the course will be the same as always. long tight and grinding

Mar 26 2008, 11:17 AM
Because we're playing #15 different this year we can't truly compare it to last year anyway so changing #10 won't affect that decision. I do prefer to keep the same setup all 4 rounds though.

Earlier is a good plan. Last year when there was thunder and lightning nearby, I think some groups went for shelter and some played through to finish their last hole or two. I think if anyone in a group feels like they should stop playing for safety reasons (thunder is near but no horn has been sounded) the group should acquiesce. I think there was differing opinions within groups on the danger last year. If this is addressed one way or the other at the players meeting it may alleviate group consternation.

Boy, I wish I could make it down for doubles. Other 1/2 can't get free early enough. The Pain is a great course, we (Rec's,Int) can shoot in the mid 70s, and still be only 11 over. Just sounds better. Now if I shoot a 77, I can say I shot 13 over, rather than 77.LOL
Mini Thumber, 2 more days of work, then play/Hooters
Yea baby. Might not be the longest line in the park , but can eat the most wings. WAVE :p

I find it hard to believe you guy's can't spell it after all this time. If your trying to spell Duke, it's D U K E. If your trying to spell Dookie, just spell poop. It's easier. Your welcome for that information.
Those famous words 2 minutes are less than 45hrs away. I will be signing autographs Sat between 0840-0845. Just some more good information.

nobody in off the waitlist the last 2 days has confirmed (i guess nobody reads e-mails) so i am leaving work and will not be at a computer until tonight. so ONE MORE TIME IF THERE IS ANYONE WITHIN YELLING DISTANCE THAT WANTS TO PLAY THIS TOURNAMENT SHOW UP TODAY OR TOMORROW AND YOU WILL MOST LIKLEY BE ABLE TO GET IN.
If anybody needs anything do not hesitate to call me 910-200-7453. i am going ot go enjoy the BEAUTIFUL day we have!!
