There no hotels in Richlands. The closest ones are in Jacksonville and it will take any where from 20-30min to get to the course from there. All the better hotels will run between $79-$99 per night.

Ok, let me try this again.
Dave,
First of all, I didn't know you have been playing long enough to know what my events were like more than 2 years ago. Second, I don't "wonder why no one is playing my events". Third, according to you my events have become half______ . Maybe, it's because of the things that people like you are doing and saying that is taking the passion that I have for this game away from my soul. Just because you have decided to put on your big boy pants this year by running a club, and a tournament, doesn't give you the right to criticize anything I have done for disc golf over the last 2 years. You can come to my events, or not come to my events. Either way is fine with me. I probably won't be running too many more anyway. Dave, I will remember this day for as long as I live. Any friendship that I have shared with you is done. Have a nice life, it was nice knowing you until about 2 days ago.

Scott,
what ever relationship we have had was over the second you started this on a public forum. if you are going to comment about my game do some research i have been playing for 3 years. if you want to blame me for wanting to get out of this sport that is fine you are good at making excuses so if that is the one you want to make to quite running events I don't care either way.

as for my comments about your event it is not what i am doing that gave me the right to crticise you it was the comment that you made toward me that gave me the right and the desire to let you know exactly what i thought about you and your comment. i honestly don't care about your events one way or the other but I am a man of my word at the least. You will not see me at any event runn by you Scott. you just remember that where ever this ends you started this. have some respect next time and p.m. some one before lashing out

Informative, ran smooth, and timely.Wave, you keep playing at a high level, turn Pro soon, and share your teaching with others. Pretty sure this is what started it... I'm going to try and stay as neutral as possible in this reply. But Dave when you say something like that on a public form your downing our club for not getting back to you about your questions, which scott was right about.. you could probably have done exactly what we did.. google search for bag tag rules. You decided to do this on our "tournament thread" not our club thread. Plenty of people also have our phone numbers. Not all of us have jobs that allow us to sit behind a desk and be on the net all day. In fact there are weeks that i dont even check my email. Fact is everyone is not same and we dont all do things the same way. We should all be in the promotion of disc golf to promote disc golf. NOTHING else. On behalf of OFDA I am sorry to all that may have been offended by our lack of response time and or anything else that they feel we may have done. Hope to see you all at the Winter Open. Might want to enjoy it as we are in a battle with the county right now about ever using that course in our tournaments again.

Donnie,
do you honestly think i did not do any research. think for a second and realize that the post i put up on your thread actually asking YOU was part of that research. and i heard back from people i asked who had no idea who i was months before you got around to even honoring my request with a reply.

Secondly,
this is not about O.F.D.A., N.H.D.C. wilmington, or Jacksonville. this is between me and scott.

i know what set him off and there is no way that Knapp's response to a relative question was warented. also it was not just my hanging question i was inquiring about

thirdly,
donnie it is post's such as yours

Ice Bowl Happened

to Monty's polite question trying to suport you club and event that made my statement more than spot on.

It is laughable that both you and knapp seriously think that when i was seeking help about bag tags that it would end with 1 questions taht took you over 2 months to respond to. Maybe you should elect a communications director so you can stop alienating people from your events.

How many people showed up for your ice bowl? use the internet and watch that number grow.

Feb 03 2008, 04:45 PM
So I started it? I believe your petty complaining is what started it. All I did was call you out for it. Lashing out? You say that I lashed out. Wow!!!!!! I believe the lashing out was started by you. I am a man of my word too Dave. I am completely done with you. You are being completely and utterly irrational.
I know how long you have been playing. I know your acomplishments in disc golf. I also know what you are about to be getting into. Like running a club, and running events. I hope you have fun. And I hope you put your heart and soul into your club, and your events. Because that is what it takes. I also hope that no one treats you the way you have treated me here on this thread. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
As far as blaming you for me leaving the sport. I never said I wanted to get out of the sport. I will NEVER leave this sport. But my future in being a TD is doubtful at best. Your comments were dirty, and retaliation for me calling you out for complaining about something silly (in my opinion). I think you took it to a level that it didn't need to go.
I know you don't care about whether or not I run events. That is very obvious. If you don't want to come to events that I TD, that is your choice. I actually appreciate your choice not to play. I don't ever want anyone to play one of my events if they don't want to.
Dave, you mentioned the word respect in that post. Ok, it is plan for me to see where the lack of respect lies. I have done things for this sport that you have yet to do. I doubt you will ever promote disc golf the way I have. But, I hope you do. I hope that you can help take disc golf in Eastern North Carolina to the next level. I doubt you can unless you can change some of your ways. But, hopefully this will be a learning experience for you (and me).
As I said earlier. It was a pleasure knowing you, and having you as friend. Unfortunately, we have agreed to end that freindship, and go on with our disc golf lives. I hope that no one who reads this has changed there opinions about you or myself. But if anyone has, then so be it. It has been decided by both parties that our fall out was made public, and that is a consequence that we both may have to face by doing so.
Despit the fact that I have chosen not to include you as a friend, I do however wish you the best in your pursuits of promoting this great sport of Disc Golf in your local area.

donnie1980

First off it was about OFDA when you said "does anyone in OFDA answer anyone's questions". You say the tournaments have gone downhill for 2 years and our club is only that old and our club runs those events not Scott Knapp. He is a tournament director. So take a step back and think about who you meant to talk to then. That's the only reason I chimed in.

Secondly - No worries man .. I wasn't out to get you upset so I'm sorry I was standing up for the club. Our calendar with the ice bowl info was posted on our website long before it happened. When he posted that it had happened already hence my response. It was not meant to be sarcastic or anything like that so I also apologize for that as well ... if Monty perseved it that way.

this is petty complaining? it is a relevent question period. it was your name calling and excuse making that made be defend myself. there is no other way to look at it period!

irrational is hardley a description of me. it is your lack of ability to accept the recourse of your actions that is leading us down this road. if you took offense to my harmless post that was actually directed at donnie more than yourself then that is your fault and if you had issue's with rather than call me names on a public thread send a p.m. so that we could have hashed this out privatley. but did you do that no. you decided to call me a whiner in public. it is that post and that post alone that has broght us to where we are now.

TD's run events I.E. they are they're event. Donnie Monty asked the question about the Ice Bowl on 1-26-08. got no response. then D.P. asked if the event ever happend on 1-30-08 one day after the event was to be held. i am guessing he was interested in how the event went and what did you post a sarcastic arrogant "it Happened" do you maybe thinK he might have wanted to know how many people came, how much money you may have raised, etc? but did you give his question any respect no you didn't just blew him off.

THIS IS IN NO WAY MONTY'S VIEWS OR OPINION'S THIS IS MY TAKE ON WHAT WENT DOWN

Wow, Dave! I had aboslutly no idea that ANYONE thought that our tournaments had been going downhill for the last 2 yrs. We have not taken anything away from our tournaments &amp; have improved them by adding a few things...We started adding lunches on site for purchase so that no one HAS to leave the course, we've added 9 temporary alt holes to J-ville, &amp; we've introduced an amatuer only tournament(still wanting to make improvements to that) which consisted of a final 9 for each division. I as an assistant td would like to know exactly where you feel we have been going downhill. As for wondering why no one plays our events...Hmm...I dont ever recall wondering why NO ONE plays our events. I have in the past thought about the reasons why we dont fill up, but I also know the answers to that. Our tournaments are in Feb &amp; Nov, not great times of the year for tournaments, there are other tournaments going on the same weekend in neighboring states, &amp; we are also not located in a great spot geographically for a HUGE turn out. That is not to say that we couldn't ever fill, but I am just happy when our players are happy. I guess I thought everyone was happy, cause I dont ever really hear any complaining, except now from you! Also, when you said what I quoted above, that was not only a strike from you to Scott, but you have offended myself, Donnie, &amp; the other club members that put in their hard work, time, &amp; effort. Our events are not just knapp brand events, but they are also OFDA Club events, &amp; I guess I am the other half___knapp. Thanks, I really appreciate that comment, it made me feel really great. I would like it to be known to everyone that if you guys feel like there is room for improvement, suggestions, whatever the case may be, please feel free to let us know politely. It doesn't mean that we will change what we do, but we will always consider any input regarding the way we run our events.

I did this a few years ago (in a PM) and all I got was pretty much the same crap Dave is getting.

I love you and Scott but I feel the overall opinion of your events is declining and I feel most of that is due to the fact that people feel that you guys don't listen to anyones opinions (and that is from members of OFDA, fellow TDs and a personal experience).

I know I will get torn apart for saying this, but Dave is one of my best friends and constantly is defending me, so I have to return the favor. And in an effort to stay out of this b/c very few people ever read my posts with an open mind, I won't respond to any forthcoming negativity.

If My events are on a decline because I don't agree with everyone else's opinions about how to run an event, then those folks can step up to the plate and run their own events. I listen to each and everyones complaints, and opinions, when presented to me with some tact and respect. Do I always agree? No, I don't. Should there be OB at Richlands? I think so. I didn't blow you off because you didn't want there to be OB, I just simply disagreed with you. You are a TD yourself. You should respect how I want to run my events. Your opinions as players are always brought into consideration. But there are two sides to every coin. So, for every complaint that folks may have about my events, there are an equal amount of folks who like the way my events are. I have had alot of PMs since this deal with me and Dave broke out. And they all tell me the same thing. "Keep doing what your doing", or "I love your events, your the best TD in the state". And to all the Knapp/OFDA supporters, I say "thank you." To everyone else I say "Thank you too"

To Scott and Dave, thank you for your last few post. This shows why I think highly of both of you all. You both apologized but you also both realized that no matter what there will be differences. Next time try working things out over a plate of wings and some cold beer. I will even buy the first 20 wings and first pitcher.
To Donnie and other OFDA members, you guys have come a long way in organizing a club in the last few years. Stay strong and keep going in the positives ways you are headed. I am proud to be an OFDA member. Always keep in mind that your big gaol is in 2010.
To NHDGC, I hope that I can finally get to an Azalea event and play the Castle. It has been long overdue. Also, someone from the club sent me some info on joining the club. I want to belong to all the clubs that are part of the CPPS.
To Moe, you showed why you don't ever make a mom mad:)
To MTL, you need to learn when to keep your mouth shut. (Cue Kirk's favorite phrase here.) You do not always have to comment on everything. You could have only made matters worse by your post.
Hey Rockie, what is the countdown to the event? I will be at Daytona the weekend before so if you want me to try and get you a bigger engine for that Dodge, let me know and I will see what I can find laying around pit row.
Oh, and what are the sponsorships that are available again for this event in case I missed them some where along thew way.
Now go to your selected Super Bowl parties and have fun.

Hey golfers I have some bad news, I won't be attending this great event due to a few personal reasons. One is I am sick (temp of 101.8) and I feel like absolute crap. I missed classes today so that should tell some of you all how sick I feel. The other is I am going to Raleigh one day this weekend (sickness allowing) to spend time with one of my closest friends. This is the same one I mentioned on another thread. His one year old daughter is still fighting for her life and battling a severe brain tumor. I so wish I could be at this Knappy event, but as much as I love my disc golf family, I love my life long friends too and they need all the support they can get. If you could, please say a prayer for the family and their daughter, Meredith.
This also means that I will present the Coastal Plains Points Series trophies at Azalea. I am sorry for the delay in the presentation. I might make one event that I preregistered for this year. :)

First the good: Knapps ran an outstanding, efficient event, seemingly with ease...Added to that the hospitality, very good and thanks.

Also good, Schwebs consistency, CLEE played great, Joe Noble CLUTCH putt on second playoff hole to cap Jon Upchurch's park job bird.

the BAD!!:

And this is a HEADS UP to all NC TD's and others in NC. <font color="blue">[profanity removed] </font> Apparently both at Buckhorn and now Richlands, discs were stolen. And yes, this time it included my 2001 USDGC roc, and another meaty roc. Maybe someone can do a quick comparison of who played both events and you will likely have included in that group your THIEF.

Totally uncool...

Great Job to The Knapps, always a pleasure to play your tournament. Pro, Awsome, Joe way to come from behind strong. Big Wigg, an awsome display of putting. All weekend long you made tough putts, great show to witness. I was surprised I didn't get arrested for impersonating a Disc Golfer. It was tough, But, I had a great time.

Good Job all, This Rec player, OUT for now

Thanks again to everyone involved in putting on this excellent adventure. Rocky, once again a great time, and excellent final round there. My putting unfortunately was balanced by my procilivity for placing my drives in the tall grass. See you all at Mookies cup I hope.

Doc,
can you please expound on how your discs where stolen? did someone take them out of your bag while it was sitting somewhere? did someone go on your car and take them? or was it simialr to Brians incident where you lost it. went back to retrieve it after the round and just could not find it? i am just wondering there is no insinuation in this post jsut want all the facts if possible. thanks again for any info. and sorry for your loss!!

Thanks Scott and Moe. I had a great time as usual. I always seem to get in great groups at your events. Izzy, Brandon, Donnie, Isaac, John, Chris, it's always fun playing with all of you. No matter how bad my drives or putting got it was easy to laugh it off. Hope we can have a similar crew at Zebolon next weekend for the 3 rivers series.

BWD,
Well, I am fairly naive about the security of my plastic around other golfers, until now, anyway. I wish I knew the details. I know I did not throw them and leave them. I stayed late on Saturday and was going to #9 and went for the Roc's (anhyser down the mid) and they weren't there. So sometime after 2nd round possibly from bag that was in open trunk, possibly from bag when I just wasn't paying attention. I mentioned to Scott Knapp later that I thought it was a joke, because coincidentally, two other mid range discs (coyote, gator) were misplaced, not lost and I was completely out of midrange discs. I figured Kirk Yoo was joking or something. Anyway, my two rocs never turned up, and reports of two other incidents of "lost" discs at tournament central, points to shenanigans in my book. Also, I then heard about Buckhorn's having lost disc problems, but I cannot speak firsthand about that. I have said earlier, the loss of the discs definitely sucks, but thinking someone possibly shook my hand, watched me throw my sweet disc, then take it later, just makes me sick. I would much rather this be a mis-understanding of some sort, but come on, my name is definitely on my disc, so...???? I figure the plastic is likely gone, but if thievery is happening, then I am calling it out right now! That is why I am going so public with this.
Kids stealing bags from the trailer park is one thing, but a fellow disc golfer pulling an "inside" job just 'stinks'. (All my other words get deleted.)

I appreciate the concern by all those concerned, which should be all of us non-thieves....

Peace,
Doc

yeah that is a just a bad situation Doc.

JJ had his entire bag stole a few years ago at the crosstown.

I don't think the Buckhorn / Coastal Plains incidents are related, but they def. are some crap.

I will be there next year for shure! and now I know where it is so i will be there on time!! as for the lost disc thing I read about...every disc that I found I turned in or gave to the person whose name was on the bottom of the disc and I would hope that others would do the same for me!!! sorry to those who "lost" their discs, keep an eye on em!! Doc, man that sucks. I hope and pray that there isn't someone among us that is lifting things. However, with what was stolen it must be someone familiar to the game. I would rather have someone ask me for money than to steal something from me. I hope we can figure it out and I hope the person or persons responsible will be that responsible. Return what doesn't belong to you. Drop them in the mail and give up on stealing. Sorry Doc! It was great meeting you this weekend. Someone did the same thing to little Wig at the King's Cup in 06.

Knapp's, once again a great time in Richlands. You guys are so smoothe. I appreciate you guys and OFDA for keeping Down East golf alive and well!

J,
The 01 USDGC roc is yellow w/ black stamp and "used to say" Mike Gordon on the bottom. Sadly, the blue rock was a tournament stamp, (still my name) maybe the "Mad City Open" but not sure. Just that the thing was a beast and I had yet to break it in after 4 years. To the thief: enjoy that one, it will do you right; as far as the 01, I wouldn't throw it. Karma gods already activated...

Again everyone, THANK YOU, for feelin me on this, and more importantly, lets get disc pilfering ('wrongfully appropriating' to former military) stopped in NC right here and now. Who wants to read the thread "Is it easier to get your discs stolen in NC or California?"

Not sure I would Identify a Roc, but Ill keep my good eye open.

On another note, Joe, cam I have $10:00, LOl
Love you guy's. Ill offer Joe's $10:00, and a $20:00 reward for those Disc's. pm me and Ill send you the address.

I did a bit of investigation last night based on a speculation I had. When someone tells me that someone else gave me a disc, I most often believe you. Most people are honest. However, just to satisify myself, I made an appt to meet with one of the players, Told him I had a disc to give him,and did. Looked through his bag just to kill my curiosity, and yes indeed, there was Mike Gordon's Roc, from from Southeastern Classic, with a basket on it with the #14. I also noticed one for Alex Barnes, and Big E. Not sure who the latter 2 are. Help if you may know, I have thier disc. Also Andrew Coggins whom I know, so ill ask him myself if he gave the player a disc. Mike, I have your Roc, PM me, so we can work out how to get it to. This player, whom I wont Identify except to speak with DOC, because, he told me he found it 2 weeks ago, and Doc said he lost it this weekend. Yes we have a thief, and I aim to deal with it. Any Suggestions?

Hey folks, the disc in question was one that I lost a couple of weeks ago, but it does have my name on it and if this person (haven't spoken to Rocky yet) chose not to return it, thats uncool. HOWEVER not involved in latest debacle. You can see how I am sensitive to my roc situation, since its taken quite a hit lately. Rocky - you da man! I will call you now at work. I am on my way up to Sanford DMV now anyway. Keep pressure on the NC discgolf thief. Thanks a lot guys for all of us and our disc golf community.

Was glad to do so, cost me an Aviar, not like I don't have a few, but, know how important some discs are to players. If it would have been my firebird, I'd feel the sameway mike feels.
I had one of Sheffy's disc's for 2 years, a CE Firebird, just couldn't leave it lying around, no name on it. One day last month, MTL identified a mark on it, and said that's Sheffy's. So I immediately comtacted Sheffy, and returned it.

Correct, it was another ROC, several years old. The player had several opportunities to return it, so I know of one, and not sure if he had others. So I definetly will keep an eye out. When we play in groups, and you see a disc, if it's not live, assure it gets to tournament central.I don't play baseball anymore, and I don't give 3 strikes. I will keep my good eye on the sityeeation.
