Further proof that the Spurs are past their prime:
"Saturday's loss at Houston was their fourth in their last six games as they continue to struggle against quality foes. In fact, they haven't defeated a team above .500 since Dec. 15 (Nuggets)."
Go Suns!

You won't be saying that if they don't get any home court. Just ask the Cowboys ... you can't just turn it on when you want to.

This move is geared directly at the Spurs. Marion is a non-factor against the Spurs becuase his style of play is all about leaking out, cheap points, etc. The Spurs have made Marion a non-factor in years past becuase they are so good defensively they don't allow cheap points or a guy leak out behind them. This is also about chemistry. Marion wanted to be traded and wasn't giving it his all this year. Plus now other guys can play more like Diaw and the Suns are better when Diaw is playing a lot.

You guys are missing the fact that Shaw is only the 7th best option on this team for offense. They didn't get him to play 30 minutes and run up and down the floor. They got him to a) get rid of shawn marrion and b) play a little against the likes of KG, Duncan, Gasol, Yao for 15 mins a game. PLus the suns alredy have shawn marion, he called Grant Hill ... and he's better than marion.

I will agree with the majority of the statement, but the last part about Hill, I don't know - I would take the 6 years, 6 boards difference and less injuries. But I do think you are correct in the fact they wanted to get rid of Marion.

I also personally think some of this is geared directly at San Antonio. Warion was a non-factor against the Spurs due to their superior team defense and solid rebounding. Hill and Diaw bring other skills to the table, like the ability to shot free throws and dribble the ball that marion doesn't have. Either the smartest move of the year or the dumbest, we'll only know in May.

On a real note, Spurs better do something or it is going to be a quick series. I have nothing aganist the Hornet's or Paul but I will be happy to see him mature some he is acting like a punk at times and I hope that changes with time.

Oh you young one, maybe in a few more birthdays you will come to realize a few things. If you don't like the Spurs because you are a Sun's fan or a Mav's fan or the like, that is all good. Not liking a team because everyone else does is just a sign of insecurity, the shock value will leave your system and it will all make sense to you. :D

whatever ,I think the Hornets are just as good if not better than the Spurs. The Spurs and Hornets are both solid teams and I think whoever wins this series will win the whole thing; the Spurs cant beat the Hornets at home and the Hornets cant beat the Spurs at home. The Hornets have the deadly combination of West,Chandler,Stojakovich, and Paul; the Spurs have Duncan,Ginobli,Parker and Finley. Smokin Joe- I want in on a bet for game 7.
Once again the SPURS came out for the 3rd looking like they just woke up or something, they looked terrible. I still have faith in them that they can put 4 quarters of good play together in New Orleans, we'll see in game 7. It's funny how Scott is the only one of you Haters who has a pair and is willing to bet on the Hornets in SA, but I got you for game 7 Hater #4 (Joe Herndon). Jeff McDonald: Pop on the plane
SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- It has been confirmed that the Spurs have indeed arrived in the Los Angeles area for the Western Conference semifinals.
Coach Gregg Popovich, after a night of travel troubles worse than anything that ever happened to Clark W. Griswold, met with reporters at the team hotel in Santa Monica on Tuesday afternoon.
Typically, this would be an opportunity for reporters to ask questions about the Spurs' next opponent (ie, the Lakers). All we wanted to know about, however, was the night the Spurs spent on the tarmac at New Orleans' Louis Armstrong Airport.
The Spurs couldn't get off the ground after Monday night's Game 7 victory in New Orleans, due to mechanical problem with the plane. They couldn't find proper hotel accommodations in New Orleans, either, because a local convention had them all booked up.
So the Spurs had to spend the night on a grounded plane.
"I just told them we were having a sleepover," Popovich said. "We got out pajamas for everyone."
Few players actually slept. And there's no word yet on what TNT talking heads Marv Albert and Reggie Miller, who were hitching a ride on the flight, thought about the whole situation.
After about seven hours, the charter company, Champion Air, was able to get a replacement plane in from Minneapolis. The Spurs finally left New Orleans around 7 a.m., and arrived in L.A. around 11, local time. Total travel time, including the sleepover: 11 hours.
The incident isn't good news for Champion Air, which was set to go out of business by the end of the month anyway. Asked if the Spurs might consider other alternatives until then, Popovich chuckled and said, "We'd consider walking."
All in all, Popovich seemed in fairly good spirits about the whole episode. At least, he said, the Spurs weren't stranded in New Orleans after a Game 7 loss.
"If it had been a loss, there would have been fighting on the plane," Popovich said. "We would have fought the people who are serving us. We'd have been fighting each other. We'd have been pointing fingers. There would have been deaths on that plane."

awww good story Bird!, I am sure that the Spurs will go on to win the whole thing; I have thought the whole time that whoever won the Spurs vs Hornets series was going to take the cake. So, as bad as I hate to say it I was wrong as well as everybody in Vegas that had the Hornets favored to win by 4.5 points; the Spurs are the better team.Since the Hornets missed half of their shots, the Spurs left them in the dust.I sent you a pm to get that $10 to ya Smokin Joe.I am sure that the Spurs will beat the Lakers 4-2 at best.

Johnny is sitting in his class in Long Beach. The teacher says,
"Everyone who is a Lakers fan, raise your hand." Everyone but Johnny
raises his hand.
Teacher says, "Johnny, aren't you a Lakers fan?"
"No, I'm a Spurs fan."
"What? Why in the world would you root for the Spurs?"
"Well, my mom is a Spurs fan, and my dad is a Spurs fan, so I'm a Spurs
fan too."
"That's ridiculous!" says the teacher "Listen, if your mom were a moron
and your dad were a moron, would that make you a moron?"
"No," Johnny replies "that would make me a Lakers fan."

Before any of you Spurs fans get on here and complain about the foul remember that is was a blown call the play before that put you in that situation ... when fisher shot that 3 pointer it hit the rim and the refs didn't see it so instead of the Lakers inbounding with a 2 point and 24 seconds on the shot clock they where inbounding with a 2 point lead on only 2.4 on the shot clock. Plus it was Joey Crawford and we all know who he hates the Spurs so there is no way he is calling that foul.

I will be the first to say that it has been a great run, a dynasty in fact. Done classy, no drama, solid people, great coaching, fine and consistent defense, seemingly no concerns about who did the scoring on any given night. Four rings don't lie. Best team of the last decade without any doubt, and one of the best of all time in the midst of transitions. (I am a big fan of Duncan, and he will be a immediate HOFer when he becomes eligible.)
But it's over folks.
We get Bynum back next year and if the egos don't re-emerge there could be several more rings won given this squad. Kobe now knows that Michael's six rings might be topped, and that's what he's playing for. Dr. Buss stands to be changing his license plate a couple more times at least. Portland is just going to get better and they're even younger (by a lot). Utah may too. The Hornets won't lose the same ways next year.
Sayonara Spurs. It's been great to know you.

May 29 2008, 09:05 AM
I wouldn't count the spurs out of it just yet (referring to the long run ... in the short run i.e. this year, they are toast). Not only do they have the best coach in the NBA they are the best, without a doubt, at analyzing talent. The players that come through their system are awesome. Parker, Duncan, Ginobli, Barbosa, Scioli (sp), etc. They'll just dump these old role players, keep the big 3, and retool. They'll likely be even better next year too.
And I'm not a Spurs fan.

I agree, the Spurs need a superstar on the team. They need someone like Colby,Lebron,etc.. they have everything else. same with the Mavericks and several other teams. They will probably always get in the top 4 every year without a high scoring player but would be guaranteed in the top 2 every year with 1.

Next year they will only be playing the regular season along with all the other California teams. :D

What you need to do is dump Ginobli now. Rumor has it he has a Chronic Arthritic Ankle (ala Bo jackson's hip) and will never be the same player again. This isn't something that heals with time or surgery, it last forever and can't be cured. That said, next year (2009) ends in an odd number .... my money's on the Spurs.
