This years Open will offer 2 days of Disc Golf. 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday if we have less than 90 players. If we have over 90, we will have 2 pools. It is a qualifier for the 2008 Southern National Championships and also for the Twin Oaks Mid-South Championships.

There will be a minimum $1,500 added to the Pro purse and over $1,000 in Merchandise added to the Am Divisions.

Entry Fees for all Divisions are $25.00 and that includes $5.00 for the Ace Pot. This year we have added an OPTIONAL CASH SIDE BET that is available for all divisions.

The Divisional Cash Side Bets are as follows:

971+ = $50.00
936-970 = $30.00
901-935 = $20.00
850-900 = $10.00
< 850 = $5.00

There will be NO AGE or GENDER BASED DIVISIONS. All Divisions will be based on Ratings only and you can play in a division higher than your rating.

Last year this event sold out, so EARLY Registration is recommended.

Who said I was "Out of Retirement" I'm just the TD on paper. Brian Black is the Real TD and the one doing all the work, he is just not a PDGA member. He was the Asst. TD last year and the guy who was responsible for the whole thing taking place. I am just a promoter and helping with flyers, registration and payout.

Miles, it's not silly, it just helps to eliminate bagging in age and gender divisions. You play in the division your skill puts you in, not your age or gender. If you happen to be at the bottom of the rating bracket, then you probably don't like it, but if you are at the top you probably think differently.

YOU on the other hand have WON a "B" tier that Coda and others were playing in and should have no problem with it. :D:D:D:D

With this being a rated based event, does this mean you half to have a rating, or can a non pdga member sign up and play any division ? Also you mentioned this to be a qualifier event for Twin Oaks Open 2008. Do you have to finish in any certain place to get a invite to T.O.O. 2008 or do you just have to play this tournament and automatically get an invite ?

For one, there are NO automatic invites!! Points must be accumulated to receive an invitation. There might be a window where someone who DID get an invitation will not be able to make it and someone from the waiting list will be contacted to fill the slot. For you next question, everyone that accumulated any points but did not get an invitation will be on the waiting list in the order of the number of points accumulated.

Now for the rating question, someone who is not a PDGA member can pay the $10 fee and play. Also PDGA members without a rating will be allowed to play in their division of choice and participate in the prizes or cash from the entry fee, but they will not be allowed to participate in the optional cash side bet. That side bet is for rated players only. There are many players out there who are not rated or not PDGA members that might come just to play down and take the cash, therefore, no rating, no side bet. It is the only fair way to treat those who do have a rating.

Can you tell us the formula to accumulate points ? I mean I have already missed 2 quilifiers, is it possible someone can play 2 or 3 events and do well in them and get an invite ? Or what if someone played 4 or 5 quilifiers but didn't do to well.

I'm not tryin to be a pain , its just that I missed last year's Twin Oaks and I wanna do everything I can to get an invite. I played it in 2006 and I still think that was best tournament I've ever played.

I'm also kind of confused how the 2007 Twin Oaks Open can be considered as a qualifier when we didn't even know until way after that event that this 2008 event was going to require qualifying. That might have changed my decision to play a local event that weekend instead of driving up to Twin Oaks.

Jan 25 2008, 05:43 PM
its because of the trouble last year at the event that caused it to become invite only :(

Not to be a thread killer, but this thread is about the Flightline Open, not Twin Oaks. I'll be glad to discuss anything about Twin Oaks on a Twin Oaks thread.

Can we limit this one to the Flightline. Remember, Last year this event sold out!!!!!!!!!! Yes it is the same weekend as Am Doubles. That is unfortunate, however with the number of events in OK and TX, weekends are hard to come by, when the City of Pauls Valley tells us when the want to hold the event. Last year the city kicked in $750.00 cash to the purse, this year they are kicking in $1,500. Therefore, we are somewhat subject to their date requests.

It is going to be great anyway, with lots of added cash and prizes.

LOOK FORWARD TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened to this tournament being a B-Tier event?

Couldn't get an exemption from Am World Doubles. The radius between them and a B tier is 400 miles and we were only 350 miles. The TD wouldn't give the okay, so we went to C tier.

There will still be $1,500 added to the Pro purse and $1,000 added to the Ams, so C tier points with a B tier purse.

The entry for all divisions is still $25.00 per player. Low entry, good payout.

It is that time!!!! We are just about 30 days away from a fun tournament with many added extras. Last year we had lots of added cash and prizes. Just ask any of the 95 players that were there!!!

2008 we are adding at least $1,500 cash to the Pro Division and over $1,000 in merchandise to the Am Divisions. Where else can you play with so much added for so little????? The Entry for every player regardless of Division is just $25.00. That's right $25 entry for everyone!! Every player gets a tournament stamped disc, is entered in the CTP's and Ace Pot. Don't be confused by the Divisions being by rating, it is no different than divisions by name. The only difference is we will not have age or gender separation, everyone will play by ability. The Divisions are as follows:

Above 970 (Pro) = $25 entry $1,500 in cash Added
935 - 969 (Adv) = $25 entry $500 in merchandise Added
900 - 934 (Int) = $25 entry $250 in merchandise Added
850 - 899 (Rec) = $25 entry $150 in merchandise Added
Below 850 (Nov) = $25 entry $100 in merchandise Added

Everyone is invited to play in any Division that is above your current PDGA rating. Every player also has the option to pay an additional fee as a side bet that stays in your respective division. Side bets will be paid in cash and side bets are not recognized by the PDGA as accepting a cash prize for playing while an Amateur!

You will find a registration and you can sign-up online by clicking here. (http://www.txokdg.com)

Darren,

He can sign up for any division since entry is $25 for every division. If he is and not a pdga member, he'll have to pay the $10 fee also. As far as what division he can play in, I'll talk to people that know him and I'll talk to him and try to place him fairly in the division he belongs. If he answers my questions truthfully, he'll end up in the right division. If he is trying to bag, it will be obvious after we see some scores. Since he has no rating, he will not be allowed to play for the side bet money. For the obvious reasons of non-member unrated players bagging, that pool is for rated pdga members only.

The divisions are broken down by rating not name.

This is a RATINGS event no age, gender or division names apply. DJ and Jennifer are playing in the divisions which their ratings fall.

Gold is 970+
Blue is < 970
White is < 935
Red is < 900
Green is < 850

Unfortunately the PDGA website shows division names and not the colors that are more properly associated with a Ratings Event.

It means Pool 1 tees off real early on Sat if we have 2 pools and we play late on Sat because we will have to alternate. Pool 1 plays 1 round, then Pool 2 plays 1 round, then Pool 1 plays another round and then Pool 2 plays another round.

Sunday Pool 1 plays 1 round, then pool 2 plays 1 round and we're done.

If we are real close to 90 pre-reg I'll go ahead and split in to 2 pools. I'll make that call Friday night after I've taken any on the course registration.

PW - We are playing Wolf around 5 - 5:30, just show up with you cash :D It will depend on how many want to play as to how we will split it up. Doubles will flex between 3 & 5, so some of the early doubles players may want to play.

Everyone remember Saturday Morning Registration WILL END PROMPTLY AT 8:30 am. We will let everyone who is in line at that time play, we do not want to turn anyone away, but don't show up at 8:45 Sat morn and ask to get in, 'cause it won't be happen'en. The more that sign up early (Friday night or before), the quicker we can get the first round going.

Also, we will have a limited number of Tourney Stamped Champion Destroyers for $20. Those that sign up online have the option to purchase them with their registration. I only have 17 left and it is first come first served for those. If you want one, sign up online and get yours to be picked up at check-in Sat. morning.

Last Year we had an additional $100 bonus if someone aced Hole 14. This year we have 2 other bounties in addition to the one no one took last year.

Here's the deal. We have the Ace Pot that will be ???(we will know when we start round 1) If an Ace comes on Hole 14 there is an extra $100 for that ace. We will also have an additional $100 for an ace on Hole 2 or Hole 6. If more than 1 person aces a bounty hole, the first ace gets the bounty.

Just so you know Hole 2 is 276 feet, Hole 6 is 235 feet and Hole 14 is 299 feet. All three are very reachable, so come and shoot for the bounty.

Does anyone want to carpool to Pauls Valley from Fort Worth area ? It's me and my son, I have room for one if someone wants to ride with us or if someone has room for two we can ride with you and split gas. And I can do all the driving if you want, I drive for a living so Pauls Valley will be like a afternoon drive in the country. We are planning on leaving on Friday [4/11/08] around noon and returning Sunday after tournament. We will be stayin at the Day's Inn. If interested send me a pm and we can work out the details.

My son bailed on me :(, looks like Im running solo if anyone's interested. Send me a pm, your car or mine, we can split the gas. I would still like to leave around noon tomorrow if possible. Also wouldn't mind maybe stopping off at Winstar on the way or way back if time permits.

OK on-line registration will be turned off early this evening, around 8:00pm. If you are planning on registering Sat. morning be in line between 7:30 and 8:30am or forget it. Also, for all those that show up at 8:25 to register, please don't ask me when we will start, because since you showed up at 8:25 it will take me a little longer to get everything together.

If we have over 90, we will have to split in to 2 flights, which will make the rounds go smoother, but the times will not be set until after we finish with registration. If we are under 90, we are set for the Players meeting at 9:30am on Sat.

This doesn't mean show up at 9:30 if you are pre-registered, ALL pre-registered players should check-in at the trailer before 9:00am to find out when you will start and get your players pack.

Scores are up Here (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7524&year=2008&incl udeRatings=1#Open)

All I can say is the Rating system works. Look at the scores, with the following brackets and you will see.

970+
<970
<935
<900
<850

hope everyone enjoyed this weekend. We put a lot into it hoping it would be fun. The weather was not as cooperative with the winds gusting to 35 on Sat. and 45 -50 on Sun. But I guess it would not be the Flightline if wind was not a factor. Brian was thinking about renaming it to the Windsock Open. (If you were there you understand).

For those that thought about coming but didn't, let me tell you a little of what you missed. First, you missed a little wind, but this is Oklahoma :D, Second, you missed an event where NO BAGGING occurred. If you look at the scores, you will see that in most of the divisions the winner would not have been in the money in the next division up. (The PDGA rating system works!!)

Next $25 to enter. Every division regardless of rating, $25. Out of that, here's how it went: $5 ace pot, $2 PDGA, $2 Southern Nationals, $1 JDGF, $10 to the purse, and then your choice of one of the following tournament stamped discs: Pro or Star Destroyer, Champion Firebird, Star Wraith or a Star Ontario Roc. Now I don't know about you, but I thought it was a good deal for $25. (I guess a lot of folks out there didn't since they weren't there.)

The purse was like this:

970+ (Gold Division) 12 players $1,625 paid out.
<970 (Blue Division) 15 players $ 645 in Merch paid out
<935 (White Division) 11 players $ 355 in Merch paid out
<900 (Red Division) 9 players $ 250 in Merch paid out
<850 (Green Division) 7 players $ 170 in Merch paid out

Recap in case you didn't understand

Cash player entries $120 collected for the purse $1,625 paid out.
Merch player entries $420 collected for the purse $1,420 paid out.

PDGA points and Southern National points.

That did not include any extras like ring of fire or ctps.

With all that said, IF YOU WEREN'T THERE, YOU MISSED IT!!

CONGRATS TO ALL THE WINNERS!!!!

So long from me it was my final event as your TD. I want to thank all who followed me around and played when I was TD, I have enjoyed all you guys and I'll be seeing you as a Player from now on. For all who missed my events, well you'll just never know.

I'll see you all around.

If I could talk Jon and Brett into it, we'd go R with the IOS. Open-2-4 on Saturday, 1-3-5 on Sunday. We'd run Am 5 as a shadow division inside Am 4 the way we ran Am 4 last year inside Am 3.

We're offering 3 divisions on saturday this year and the other 28 on Sunday. 6 would be so much easier to handle. If we lost three huffy am masters because they only play with old guys, big deal.

Quick question Chuck,
I shot the same both rounds on Saturday, but my second round rating was much lower. How ?

On another note, I had a great time this weekend, Tom put on a great event as alway's. I won big in the ring of fire this year, I even won a free entry to next month's 30th Norman Pro/Am. Guess I'll be going back to Oklahoma next month. Thanks to all who made this past weekend happen.

Thanks Tom for running this event.I had so much fun.And Thanks to all the staff that was there helping and all.

Thank you Miles.I did get beat by a girl and she is a awsome player and she took all 3 of us on the first hole.I had a chance to tie with her but i missed a putt in to a 35 miles per.But there is a lot of us that can say that.I watched this one person put in to a head wind from like 15 feet from the basket and hit the top of the basket and the wind picked it up and took it about 60 feet from the basket.I was like WOW.Think god I didnt have one of those. The worst thing of all that happen to me is that is missed a 5 FOOTER :D:D
in to the head wind but i laughed about it because you couldnt do nothing about it.But like I said there is a lot of people that can talk about all the stokes that they left out there.I had fun and we will be there next year. :D:D

Don't know. Doesn't look like everyone played the same tees or course each round. However, the TD hasn't indicated any difference in the course layouts in the upload for unofficial ratings.

We were trying to figure that out too....my 2nd round score was better than the 1st, not to mention it was windier, and my round rating went down....of course the round ratings aren't official yet, but we'll see....
anyway, thanks for a great weekend Tom! I really appreciate the great efforts of you, your staff, and everyone that pitched in to make it a great, well-organized event! That was some Oklahoma Wind Golf!

Was a different course played in round 3? The variance in ratings between R1 & R2 is totally within reason for heavy wind rounds. R1 & R2 scores will be averaged together anyway for official ratings unless you think the conditions were different enough between morning and afternoon. But 6 shots between R2 and R3 for SSA difference on the same course I've never seen.

Chuck,

Here's how the wind factored in (this from the airport guy who monitors that stuff):

Round 1 winds were 20 - 25 gusting to about 30mph
Round 2 winds were 25 - 30 gusting to about 35mph
Round 3 winds were 25 - 35 gusting to about 50mph

Considering we were playing in front of the airport terminal and the windsock is 50 feet from the first tee, I would consider those numbers fairly accurate.

All rounds were played on the same course, same format, all players from the same tees....round 2 had tougher/windier conditions than round 1.....the wind on round 3 sunday was even more ridiculous...solid 40-45mph winds.......

Looks like the right thing to do will be to combine R1 & R2 scores and process R3 separately. I suspect what we're seeing is the non-linear effect from the wind on scores. In other words, each 10mph increase increases scores even more than before. So going from 0-10mph might have little effect. Going from 10-20 might be 5 pts. 20-30 might be 10-15 more points and 30-40 might be 20-30 pts.
