In clash at Reny Gold Billy Crump mentions the original billy tree, he says if you don't know what it is ask somebody. SO I'm asking somebody
There's a tree on hole 9 at Kilborne Park in Charlotte, NC, that Billy used to hit ALOT! (from what I've been told by many and by Billy himself)

To add to what R Kelly said...
There is this tree about 15 - 20 feet off the tee to the right on hole 9 at Kilbourne. Billy use to take the shot too wide and hit this tree all the time.
Well, b/c of this, they called it the Billy tree. Then when Billy went on tour, the first tree right off the tee on any hole was called The Billy Tree b/c of this story.
So basically, the first tree on the hole is the Billy Tree - the video was showing that this the first Billy Tree and the tree that got the term started.

How many other courses have a famous (named) tree?
We have one here called "Old Grumpy". A big Elm tree on Hole #10 that has stopped many, many shots from getting to a 290 ft. basket. I think everyone in this area has hit it at least a few times each month.
Another tree we call "The Tree of Woe" doesn't see much action any more since the re-design of the Hole #5, #6, & #7 area. It used to be the demise of many good rounds.

"The Refrigerator" on Pratt Park #11. Used to be the target in the pre-basket days, now a formidable obstacle.

Oh yeah, good call! I forgot about trees that used to be targets before the time of baskets everywhere!

Lubbock, TX old #8 used to have a tree they called "Bad Seed" because of the way it's limbs went all directions at strange angles. It used to hinder shots close to the basket, but I think it's not in play any more because of the Ampitheater project a few years ago.

We have a beloved Madrone tree (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5410/1478/1600/hole9fromtee.jpg) at Stafford on hole 9 just to the left of the tee. Anyone that hits it is required to give back 10 pushups at the base of the tree.

When I started playing, I thought that the trees on the course had strange names that sounded like curse words, because when someone would hit it with a disc, they would yell, "$#%&$#$ TREE !" :D

"Shaq" guards the long basket at Veteran's Park Hole #9. Also, "Belfour" resides on Hole #10 but has gone through a name change when traded from the MN Northstars....I mean DALLAS STARS, now it's "Turco."

There is a similar tree that you get a rub on before throwing the gravity hole at De La.

Not that they are known for it, but some friends and I always say "Don't hit the Velcro", refering to the cedars off of Hole 4 at Warwick.

#15 @ the Deer Lakes Disc Golf Course is a 225 foot downhiller over a pond. Since there is a freakishly high volume of lefties out our way the last tree on the left side before the pond is now called "PennDot" (name given to our state road crews here in PA). Like the road crews here, all it's good for is filling holes. (mainly the one that has 1,000,000+ gallons of water)
