what say you DFW folks about a doubles tour? think of the possibilities of a series of one-day, two-round events:

ZBoas short / ZBoas long
Crowley / Vet
Haltom City / Grapevine
Beaver / Coyote
Lake Lewisville / LL Woods
BB Owens / Audobahn
Jimmy Porter / Greenbelt

could also head south for Cameron Olde / Beast

what works good with Rockwall? that would be nine events right there. maybe we could pay half at each event and accure the other towards series payout?

this could be a blast... theres so many good course in DFW now its sick

Put Rockwall with Audubon, then put BB Owen with McKinney, or drop BB Owen out due to heavy traffic, and put McKinney and the new Allen course (yes, I know it's a 9 holer) together.

New Groupings:

ZBoas short / ZBoas long
Crowley / Vet
Haltom City / Grapevine
Beaver / Coyote (Cedar Hill)
Lake Lewisville / LL Woods
Rockwall / Audubon
Jimmy Porter / Greenbelt
BB Owen or Allen / McKinney

or have even more fun by throwing Crawford Park and Irving Fritz in the mix.

Oh yeah, and make it draw doubles as well, with divisions to be decided.

is crawford fully playing now?

rockwall/audobahn is good. what about rockwall short, rockwall long? that way it could be audo/bb and allen/mckinney? that would be 9 sweet days of metroplex golf.

the draw thing is interesting. marshall ray had that idfea today also.

Crawford is not fully available at this time. The parks dept has finished rebuilding the area around the pond and we are now able to go back in and re-route the course. Steve said it should be ready in 2-3 weeks.

The new McKinney course should be ready for play within a couple of months and should compliment the current course well.

I don't think Audobon will be available for serious play for most of the year. There is some serious sewer line work going on there and half of the course has been pulled (as of a couple of weeks ago).

Bummer about Audubon... I guess that means we won't be playing there as a second course for the Rockwall event this year :(

I'd be in for some doubles... not 100% sure on the draw doubles idea though. I *would* probably bring more people overall, but it looks like you're going for some two-round action, and playing 2 rounds with someone you just met might not be all that attractive for some.

make it byop, and then you could have a "final" at the end of it, with a 2-day event similar to A-Z. or, just make A-Z the final :)

The new Mesquite course should be ready soon. It's not much further away from Rockwall than Audobon.

The Piedmont Random Doubles Tour in North Carolina is one of the most successful series events I've ever witnessed. Todd Gillihan runs the weekly events and and each week the tournament is contested at a different course within the state. These events occur on Wednesday nights (6:00 pm) and they are only one round....and it's not uncommon to see 60-70 players at each course and the ace pot carries over to each event.

Each year he creates a custom logo disc for the series, but these discs are not for sale....the discs are prizes. There is no cash payout.....cashing players (pro and am alike) win these discs as payout and the winning team of each event receives two small trophy plaques. The series wraps up with overall winners.....most wins, most under par for the series, most events played, etc. Not a bad marketing idea.....I'm sure Todd is making some good coin off the plastic-only payout (i.e. wholesale markup). His events tend to draw more amateurs, but I was surprised to see the number of high rated pros who would show up as well.

Likewise, the Twin-Cities have their Tuesday night "Sun Dog" doubles league....and that weekly random doubles series has a huge draw each week....regardless of which course it is at. If I remember correctly, the Sun Dog series pays out cash, thus, there is no direct profit for the club or event coordinator(s).

You DFW guys definitely have the number of players and courses in your favor. Regardless of how you structured the format (weekend 2-rounds vs weeknight 1 rounders; cash vs prizes, etc.), as long as someone stepped up to run the event, I'm sure they will come to play...

Haltom City / Grapevine
Beaver / Coyote (Cedar Hill)
Lake Lewisville / LL Woods
Rockwall short / Rockwall long
Jimmy Porter / Greenbelt
McKinney / McKinney???
Crawford???/...???

i lost track...

actually this is something my hero and i have talked about for a couple years... i'd love to do it if the interest is there

I heard that both Waco courses were going to be unplayable most of the year because of some renovations on both side of the river. I *really* hope that's not true, because that means no Charity Open this year and no place to do the final for filthy feets' doubles tour :(

This is a great idea.
It sucks that we don't have national or world doubles in texas anymore.

Rumors out of Waco are that the construction that was going to disrupt the courses has been delayed until next year.
