I'm considering buying a pair of the Bite high-top shoes, and I haven't really found any good reviews online. If you have them, what do you think of them? Are they worth the money?

I'm looking for a shoe with good, sturdy soles and good ankle support. I keep wearing my shoes down to bare rubber. Waterproof is also good, and I've heard that the Bite shoes (at least the low-tops) aren't.

Also, anyone know any good vendors for it? I've been able to find them online for 79, but am looking for a better deal.

Thanks!

Mark

I have not seen these discounted in stores but I have seen deals on them at large tournaments that Bite sponsors (i.e. order them at their booth).

If you want waterproof, get waterproof socks. The waterproof liner in shoes wears through pretty quickly in rough conditions (tromping through brier patches, etc.).

These are waterproof, so much so that your feet will sweat.

I really like mine, very comfortable.

I got mine last December right after they came out. Mine have fallen apart and where never water proof. The only reason I still wear them is because I can't justify buying another pair of $100 disc golf shoes until 08. When I do buy new disc golf shoes it will either be salmons or northface has some nice gortex lined trail running high tops.

I vote for Merrells. I have had a pair for 1 1/2 years and they are still going strong. I'm a big guy so I'm hard on shoes too. These have lasted longer than any pair of shoes I've ever owned. I got a pair of GoreTex Merrells about 8 monthes ago off ebay for $70 new. They are the chamelion model. just type "Merrell XRC or goretex your size" and you should get some hits. Check the buy it now section.

I can not recommend them. I would also give the thumbs up to Merrells

If your merrells fall apart can't you send them back?

I had some waterpros for 8 months and they just came apart. It was in the middle of a tournament too.

Merrell Waterpros are great and amazingly light. But if you plant your foot hard when driving (like we all do) the cheap plastic rings that hold the adjustable strap to the laces will break. The same thing happens on the Landpros. I love the styling, fit and comfort though, so I bought a pack of split rings (for fishing lure hooks) and installed those in place of the plastic POS. I have a pair of Chameleon mids too and like them a lot. I vote Merrell.

I'd like to hear what style Merrell is waterPROOF, as a compliment to the made-for-water waterpro. Any testimonials?

I have a pair of merril chameleon wrap xcr goretex.
they are very water proof, so much so that if you step in anything over ankle deep they will fill up and hold water for some time.

for very wet weather i play in an old pair (12 yrs) of vasque super hiker gore tex

both are very light and very durable

i've had the vasque restitched a few times the vibram sole is a bit worn now but otherwise they are still perfect

3+ years now for mine. They're not very water-resistant anymore, but water-proof socks take care of that problem. Very comfortable! Lowa Renegade II GTX (mid).

I've owned a pair of Bite high tops for over a year. Good shoe for the money. $89 for the Bite's vs $200 for Merrel's that I wore before. Neither shoe was waterproof. (seal skin socks)

I liked the Merrel's more, much more padding at the collar, it took me a couple of golf rounds to get comfortable in my Bite's. The fit in the foot area was great on both. A piece of stitching on the side of the Bite's is loose/torn, but that could be from briers and thorns, not workmanship.

If you can swing the cash, I would say go with the Merrel's, but I would have no problem buying another pair of Bite's. My next shoe purchase will depend on the state of my wallet at the time.

I have a pair of Nortface gortex running shoes and the soles started ripping off after the first round of wearing them. A friend of mine has the same exact shoes and his came apart in the same place. The waterproof part of them is nice and they were fairly comfortable but for $130 they should at least last two rounds before tearing :) I was originally going to go with the Merrell Chameleons but I felt they were too heavy for tournament play.

I think I will go with Solomon in 08.

Just so you know... a local disc golf shop currently sells Bite dg shoes but are replacing them with Solomon next year. The owner said they are having a horrible time getting shoes shipped in to the shop since they are in that transition phase after being bought out by Croc. Just a thought.

I just bought a pair of Bite Distance High. So far (only 3 rounds ;)), they are great. I am playing in the snow, and they grip on everything except ice. They are grippy on Tee pads also, because there is alot of flat sole contacting the concrete, even with the big grooves for off-pad traction.

Obviously, I can't give a true review until much later. But, since the thread is hot. . .

I have had a pair of Bites for over a year and they have held up as well as any other shoe I have had. I wear them or a pair of the Salamon Vapors that you see Avery or Barry wearing (depends on the terraine & weather) Over the years I have worn Merrils, Vasques, Nike's Salamon and Addida's and they all take a beating due to the nature of our sport. One of the previouse psoters nailed by stating that for the money the Bites are a great shoe.

Mineand a friends Northface shoes ripped apart during the first round. My Bite weren't that comfortable at first but got better after about 10 rounds. However they only lasted 2 months. Granted our pads are extremely rough but 2 months. My Lowe shoes have lasted 2 years but only wear during dry conditions due to wore sole. Had a pair of Vasques and they sucked. Any sole that is glued on didn't hold up for me.

I used the Bites for approximately 10 rounds and noticed one round that I was getting snow built up inside the toe of the shoe. After the round, I took a closer look, and the tongue is only attached at the base of the laces (like any other shoe). I don't understand how a shoe can call itself waterproof, while it allows water in at the top of the toes. The reason I got the high tops in the first place was because they claimed to be waterproof, but they can't be any more waterproof than the low tops.

Long story short, I am getting a refund, and probably will be buying some Merrell Chameleon Wrap Mid Goretex. They claim to have the ability to be used as "ankle high waders". Any more feedback about these shoes would be great.

Disc golf can be pretty hard on your shoes. I find myself having to buy a new pair each season. I have had two pairs of Montrail Gortex XCR and they are pretty nice, I just wore out the second pair and replaced them with some Merrells, I wanted to see how they would perform.

Everyone I know that has bite shoes doesn't like them. Although their customer service was okay, they still found the shoes to wear quickly.

got mine for $26 off amazon... @ that price I can't complain! (got the highs and the lows)

i've been playing speed golf lately and wearing my lows and they're working good even while jogging/running out @ Renny.

Understatement of the year! Nothing beats on shoes like DG. I can't wait until we become a large enough demographic to be marketed towards by more companies, because DG needs its own shoes. I would want a light, breathable, cross-trainer type, with hard rubber soles. I would want a radial tread pattern at the ball of my foot with spokes angled in the direction of my pivot and aggressive traction everywhere else. That's just for starters...

I love the Bite shoes. I wear the low tops though. Really comfortable and durable for the money. I find myself wearing my Bite shoes most of the time, even off the course.

Love my bite lows as far as comfort and grip on anything except wet concrete pads (where they are some of the worst I've ever worn). Their best feature is they are super light. I hate trudging around with heavy shoes on.

Had mine since September 06 and they are just starting to wear out (liner in the heel). Sole is still solid. Some torn stitching on the side and a hole where a stick poked all the way through and drew blood (ouch).

Think I'll probably switch to Merrill's for my next golf shoes though if for no other reason than to have a different look. I'm tired of the tiger stripe of the bites.
