There is a new Un-Official Course Record at Zebulon for singles.
I shot a 40 out there yesterday, with 2 witnesses...KDiddy and Chuckster. Had a rim out for ace on hole 5 during the round.
Only hole I missed was hole 14.

not nearly as easily as could, plus there are lot more 4's on the hole than before.

Rob, this may be the worst idea I've ever heard.
I'm advising you NOT to do this format in the first round.
Let's think about this.
1 - 18 - throwing over parking lot, throwing over the tot lot, throwing across a road with incoming traffic.
2 - 1 - a simple jump putt
3 - 2 - a big anny over the road, no shot off the tee really
4 - 3 - boring drive, easy 2
5 - 4 - a simple jump putt
6 - 5 - not alley to the basket
7 - 6 - a simple jump putt
8 - 7 - actually not a bad hole (first one)
9 - 8 - no fairway, terrible hole
10 - 9 - simple boring approach out of the woods, walking from 8's basket to 10's tee is loooooooooooong
11 - 10 - a simple jump putt
12 - 11 - an easy approach up the path
13 - 12 - simple approach shot
14 - 13 - simple jump putt
15 - 14 - simple approach shot
16 - 15 - simple jump putt
17 - 16 - you have two options here - a big anny over the baseball field which brings the batting cage into play or throwing on land that is not park property - not good
18 - 17 - a little approach.
So in 18 holes you have done the following - 1 good hole, thrown over areas where other park patrons could be, thrown off the park property, hada lot of simple putts and approaches.
THIS IS A BAD IDEA

Not sure its the worst idea I have ever heard, but BIG "Z" probably isn't the best course for the steeplechase concept. IMO...however, I do like the fact that you guys are mixing up the type of games played. Good work! Keep up the creative thinking.

backwards (18 basket to 18 pad) would work with 18 portables.

Since I was somewhat negative in my post, here are some ideas for your club that work that are a little off the beaten path.
1. Doubles (different formats, i.e. worst shot, alt shot, best score)
2. RIPT - very fun tournament if you just do it once in a while
3. 666 singles - first 6 holes you play singles, second 6 holes you play one extra shot, 3rd 6 holes you play best shot with yourself
4. Stableford scoring
The Greenville club does these things with thier monthlies. They do a march mando madness tournament (where every hole has a mando), they do a tax tournament in april where 15% of the entry goes to the club, they do a throwback tournament and play the older course in town, they do a round where you alternate short and long tees.
These are the kinds of formats that work to mix play up! But remember, no matter what, no one will ever complain about a simple 2 round tournament. You don't always have to do something crazy. I know you play that course a lot and it gets boring at times, but take it from someone with 15 years experience in this sport, simple works.
