This year's dates for Texas States: April 5-th-6th, 2008.

We are super-pleased to announce a spectacular new venue change for the 13th Annual Texas State Disc Golf Championship!

This year's Texas States will be held at the stunning Quail Valley Country Club in Missouri City on Houston's Southwest side!

Although final prices haven't been determined yet, there will be golf carts available for rent during this tournament!!!

All of the features and ammenities of their facility will be available to us for use during the event including their grill and 19th hole area! :D In fact, we really want our players to eat and drink at the facility so that it makes a great, positive economical impact for them!

The paperwork was just signed today - this show is ON!!! :D

So are you saying this time it wont be in a swamp? How interesting - a Texas State's without 8-20 inches of water in the fairway ? People might get the wrong idea about Houston :p. Sounds interesting enough to at least add it to the hopper & see what come out - good move HFDS.

I thought unless everybody had a cart in a division it was not allowed in a pdga sanctioned event.

Hey Chris,

I did a quick search on rules and didn't pick up any hits on the word "cart" in it. I don't recall ever seeing any rule associated with carts.

The venue has a supply of 60-70 carts for rental purposes...I have to imagine that everyone that wants a cart should have an opportunity to rent one. There are other sanctioned events that have featured cart rentals - heck even in our area. Spring Valley featured cart rentals for the SV-III event just last month.

Laura:

Two out of the three Quail Valley courses are shut down for ball golf play presently. We will set up courses on those two courses. Since standing water is more of a problem for ball golfers than it is for disc golfers, the courses are designed to drain very well and quickly.

This should be one of the most spectacular venues we've ever had to work with. All 3 courses will be at a single location which has always been a popular feature of Texas States - great opportunity to socialize with disc golfers from all over the place!!! Central location for tournament HQ and Fly-mart.

We are super-excited about this change as it also allows for a much bigger range of choices for host hotels, discount hotels and many options for eating.

We just signed the paperwork yesterday so many, many details will remain to be fleshed out, but the possibilities for 2008 Texas States are much more open-ended than they've ever been before. Tom Bass isn't really conveniently located close to anything which has made it a problem to partner up with a host hotel. This venue has many more opportunities.

You are right Mike!!!

And I completely forgot to mention that anyone that might be interested in checking out what Texas States is going to look like, should be considering playing in your tournament out there on January 19th!!! Great opportunity to get a sneak peek! :D (I'm glad I'll get a chance to play some of it - I sure won't have that opportunity at States!)

There was a cart issue that raised a couple of years ago. As I recall it was about pushing vs. pulling, something really weird. Not sure it it's still active though but I'd count on it. Remember, we don't allow range finders due to some can't afford them. I'm betting somewhere someone has the notion that not everyone can afford carts.

BTW - Cool venue, do you already have a hole layout?

Here's the link to the Texas States website. (http://www.texasstates.org/) This site is still under construction but should be operational pretty soon.

This is where we will be posting up all official information about the tournament.

There are a few photos of the course on the home page in case anyone wants to see what this place looks like. It might get folks a little excited to see what we'll be playing on at Quail Valley.

How 'bout you come down around New Years instead???

Quail Valley is a country club/golf club. Everyone should expect to pay to play there. After all, that is their line of business...well golf in the generic sense of the sport! :D I'm saving the details for the Texas States website (http://www.texasstates.org/) but I think folks will be real pleased and want to practice it.

Beginning December 28th, 2007 the courses will be available to practice on, but we will NOT have the baskets out on the course prior to Friday April 4th. We will have the tees and basket locations clearly marked. The basket areas will have a 10 meter circle around where the basket will be located. Quail Valley has a very "special deal" for anyone wishing to log some practice rounds out there. (With almost 3 months before States, nobody should have an excuse not come check it out in advance if they want to.) Maps and scorecards should be available at the Quail Valley Country Clubhouse.

And...if you want to see how some of the course plays with baskets on it, then I'd encourage everyone to sign up for the newly renamed Quail Valley Classic I (formerly known as the Mo City Mash :D) Entry forms can be found on the Birdshot website (http://www.houstonbirdshot.com/) or on TitleDisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/QuailValleyClassic-08.php)
