Round 2 will be played on the short tees and the best round will receive the Cold Snap Trophy for One Year
Other Cool Things throughout the weekend to raise money :
Pay to play with a top pro! We will have some top pro golfers playing the Ice Bowl. We will be accepting cash bids to play with each of these guys along with all pros entering the event. If you are one of the top 4 bidders, you get to play the first round with one of the best golfers in the world!
Chili Cookin Contest Got a special recipe for some chili? Cook your best batch of chili and bring it on out for all to enjoy. Top 3 chilis will receive a prize. Everyone who does not cook chili may eat chili for lunch for 3 dollars.

I am honored, pleased and excited to announce that the Raleigh Winter Jam will be the first EVER PDGA event under the new endowment program!
The endowment program info can be found here : http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=771439&page=0&vc=#Post77 1439
With this, all non-PDGA member fees (10 dollars) will be waived to encourage more non-members to participate in this event and the sanctioning fee will be lower meaning more money for the NC Food Bank! Also, all PDGA player fees (2 dollars) will be donated by the PDGA to the NC Food Bank and will be matched by the event meaning for every person that comes, 9 dollars (27 meals) will be donated to needy and hungry people in NC.

The entry fees for this event were set where they were so with the 5 dollar entry fee deduction and the 2 dollar PDGA fee, I still will have a good payout and the more discs I give away in payout, the more profit I make and the more that is donated to the NC Food Bank.

lol, yeah yeah yeah. You saw how I played this weekend. I was actually thinking about playing the new recreational if it had been offered, as little as I have been playing I truely am recreational at this point and if it was cheaper and not for charity, lol. But yeah I guess intermediate is from 900-935 as of the first of the year, so technically I am playing up.
MTL21676
Dec 13 2007, 12:34 PM
All PDGA divisions will be offered, however, we will need 3 in each division to offer it (with the exeption of junior and women's divisions.)

Those ratings standards are not guidelines, just suggestions.
Basically all it is saying is no one over 900 can play rec and no one over 935 can play intermediate.

Dec 14 2007, 10:33 AM
why they decided to call virtually all of the '07 advanced players intermediate for '08 is beyond me- it made so much more sense to add the new divisional name at the top than the bottom- the adv baggers could've become expert and everyone else could've remained what they already perceived themselves to be....at this rate eventually they will continue to foul it up to the point where i will get to play "embryonic" or whatever name they come up with for yet another beginner's division that isn't really for beginners.

I honestly don't think any divisions should have been added.
We already crown waaaaaaaay to many "world champs" as it is.
To me, there should only be one world champion.
Regardless of my personal feelings, the Raleigh Winter Jam will offer all PDGA divisions.

Unfortanently our sport isn't big enough yet to have it anywhere else.
They polled PDGA members a few years ago asking if you would attend a worlds in Europe / Japan.
The results were overwhelmingly no.

I have a two part question here why kentwood and are ya'll going to close the course to the casual golfers? Those kentwood casual golfers have no etiquette. It's like they just dont care. And another thing what is the deal with the people in the nineteenth century? It's called an automobile people get with the program.
MTL21676
Jan 10 2008, 12:32 PM
why kentwood
Just b/c Kentwood is short doesn't mean it is not a good course. I would say 16 of the 18 holes are good fair holes, which is more than I can say for most courses.
Also many people such as Jim Markov and Carter Allen have donated lots of time to improve the course and a PDGA event on the course is rewarding for those people.
The main reason is the goal of this event is to raise as much money as possible for the NC Food Bank. Sure I can name 3 or 4 people who won't be there because it is at Kentwood, but I can name 10 - 15 people who will be there because it is at Kentwood.
[/QUOTE]
and are ya'll going to close the course to the casual golfers?

We need 3 to open a division and Kirk has said there would need to be 7 or 8 for him to stay in masters and I imagine based on past experiences the same can be said for Alan.
If it ends being just you and the two others (which I'm curious, who is it?) then that is fine, however, I would recommend playing open.
It is a short course where the typical master disadvantages (not being able to throw as far) are not there.

That is a good question and I honestly feel that the answer to that is no.
We have people coming in from all over the state and even some from Virginia. I highly doubt these people would have made it to the event had it not been sanctioned.
Also, since the PDGA approved this event to be under the endowment program, all the 2 dollar player fees are donated to the charity and the sanctioning fee was only 25 dollars. On top of the 2 dollars, 5 dollars of the entry fee goes directly to the food bank.
Not even counting the 2 dollars, this means that only 5 people would have to come to the event to break even and I know there are more than 5 playing it simply b/c it is a sanctioned event.
I hope this clears up why the event is sanctioned.

True dat. I wouldn't be schlepping down to NC for some local charity tourney (especially since it turns out we're having some local doubles tourney the same day - announced well after i planned on going to the Jam).
Nothing wrong with charity tournaments (i played 2 in VA in Nov/Dec), but i wouldn't travel to do it.
And, i dunno - $32 seems reasonably priced; perhaps it's just that *everything* costs more (i.e. the dollar just don't buy as much as it used to) - i'll probably spend more on gas than on tourney fees.

OUCH!!! I call REVERSE BAGGING on that one. (Reverse bagging is a term I invented to describe encouraging others to play up so you can take their money) [satire intended from this point forward]"Intermediate" is 900-935 this year. My player rating is what, 913 or something like that and oh yea, I just had BACK SURGERY, but if all you RECREATIONAL LEVEL players insist on playing up, I'll have to change divisions just so you don't cry all over the place. Then as a doctor I'd have to peel your eyes off your frozen tears, etc and I just don't feel like doing that!! How's all that for a comeback ;) my bestest friend.

Run :o
I remembered it once you refreshed my memory. With the tournament and everything, this has been a long stressfull week.
Not to mention I started my diet back and started exercising every night again.....
