can you mark your starting point behind your mini with another mini? or something else?

Yes. Not sure why?

One idea discussed for fun a few years back was to have an official narrow white towel 30cm long that would be placed on the ground behind your mini or previously thrown disc. Your foot would have to touch the towel upon release or it would be a foot fault.

but the towel would have to be infinitely thin...

Part of doing that idea would be to adjust the rule to allow the towel to become the official width allowed whatever was decided. It's one way to get at the foot fault issue.

I ask because i like to measure off my steps behind my mini and it would be easier to know were i was if there were a marker to mark my starting point. I use a 3step, 4 step, 6 step, and run up depending on the shot. I also have preferred steps for overhands, and forehands. I like the towel idea, except that it may cause slips.

with practice one can get very accurate with their footing same as a place kicker or punter in football.

Similar, but the difference is the placekicker is looking at the ball. Disc golfers are looking at our line, then turning away, then releasing, never really looking at the mini.

I think I am similar to most, and take an extra follow through step after releasing. Practicing is tough because of this. I would think the only way to practice legal foot placement would be to have someone there to tell you where your plant foot was, or practice on loose gravel where you can see a mark where your plant foot was.

Any other ideas?

I think everyone would learn where to plant their foot real fast if they had to use their beer as their marker. After you kick a few over (acohol abuse) you'll learn to plant your foot in the right spot! :D

you can use your marker then place your bag in front of it.
my following leg is usually high enough to clear my bag.
during practice i constantly know where my mark is as well as playing in a tourny. almost always there is a definate mark on the ground where my plant foot bites. it is not neccesary to look at your marker if you know where it is and have practiced your approche and inspected your plant location more than just a few times.

Practice in the morning when a nice layer of frost or dew appears. It's very easy to see if you've hit your mark.
