so I know before Big wave mentioned he heard where a few baskets were going in at a local apartment complex......well I found out from a friend it is at Cape HArbor....off Gordon road... basically at the back area of the complex entrance. I have no idea how many baskets, but there is confirmation baskets well atleast one is in the ground and there. And I know for a fact their gates havent worked in a long, long time.....

it is 9 holes. But please if anybody is planning on playing there just keep in mind this is a course on private property. Please be respectful and low key. there is no reason to carry your bag it is a true pitch and putt. 2 or 3 discs are all you need. Hole 1 is in the front of the complex which is the Gordon road entrance. it is right next to the tennis courts. once again Please Please act accordingly. it would be a shame to lose access to this great little practice spot (especially for me considering it is right across the street from my work)

agreed and well said BWD. This is a gated community, but the gate stays open at this time... so I agree, carry 2-3 discs.... and act like your there cause you should be, we are all a respectful bunch when it comes to courses so hopefully this one stays in the ground and we can periodically gain access to it

So apparently the Property Manager of Cape Harbour has some how found a Blog (i can only assume she found this thread) and has made it painfully clear that Cape Harbour Disc Golf course is for renters ONLY! unless you know someone out there please do not go out there and play as she will kick you out post haste. if you do know someone out there please let me know so i can play out there. it is to close to my work not to take advantage of these baskets. wow that lasted long.

Played the new Elon Park course this past weekend. There's a lot of heavily wooded holes and many ace opps. So far, for a brand new course, it's pretty great. If our new course is anything like this one it will be a great addition to Wilmington. It's probably a par 54.

Also, I heard there was recently a land purchase that will bring another par 70ish course to Charlotte in the near future.

Just a heads up excerpt from an email I got from Chuck (aka, homegrown tour) about a problem at Buckhorn. I haven't played it yet but I know some of you guys frequent it:
------

On another note, Jamie "River Dawg" Arnolds, owner of Ramcat Ridge in Yadkinville, was playing some golf at Buckhorn yesterday and someone broke into his car and stole a bunch of discs. Here is what he had to say:
BTW my Suburban was broken into at Buckhorn and two boxes of discs, probably 40+
drivers were taken. Most of them had my name on them and a lot of them were my
dye jobs. Keep your eyes skinned. Only truck in parking lot all day was a
silver toyota cab and a half and only one set of tracks on the course. Could
have been worse. That's all he took. My back passenger glass was down about a
1/2 inch and he just popped the glass off it's track and reached in and unlocked
the door. Wretched scumbag thief!!!

He was asked to give a quick presentation on Disc Golf by the Mayor and the rest of the council. Mr. Firzsimons gave the presentation and i was there to field questions. after a short discussion between bob myself and the mayor and comisssioner the Board voted unanimously to continue with the project. Now we will define the parameters of the area we want to use for the course. Mr. Russle Schwarz has already been in contact with Bob and i am fairly certain he will be the one that comes down and designs the course.

This was just printed and emailed out through SNOWS CUT MAGAZINE...the Pleasure Island Mag.

"Kure Beach wants disc golf

The Kure Beach Town Council voted to proceed with a disc golf course at Joe Eakes Park. You may be wondering how they'll fit it on such a small park. Good question.

The town leases 24 acres from the US Army, but the current park uses only about 6 acres. That leaves 18 acres of woodland that's perfect for disc golf.

They plan an 18 hole tournament-worthy course. One of many cool things about disc golf is that it's inexpensive - about $10,000 and a few weeks of work can is all it takes.

I'm biased, but I this is a great day for Pleasure Island. Disc golf is a great, free activity that many people enjoy.

Disc golf was all set to come to Arrowhead Park in Monkey Junction, but then the dumb ol' economy got in the way. The County Commissioners don't want to borrow any more money to do park improvements until things improve so they're holding off on that one."

Just figured i would post the latest.

Just wanted to let everyone know about the July Monthly at Luther Britt Park in Lumberton. I am not sure if this is the correct thread to put it in, but I took a shot.

I would like to take a moment to do some "selfless" promotion. On July 25th, the LDGA will be holding our July monthly with a nice twist. We will have a CTP contest on all 18 holes that will last for both rounds. Various prizes, gift certificates, and everyone's favorite, Cash have been donated specifically for this event. As always, we will have the "Green CTP", which is an optional Community CTP as part of our monthly. I know that the New Bern PDGA is this same weekend, but if you aren't playing there, consider making the drive.

We have another event that is upcoming. On August 29th, we will be hosting the 3rd Annual Ace Race sponsored by Discraft. We hold a very competitive event that rewards consistent accuracy. Each hole is shortened considerably and there are plenty of "Ace runs" for all. Each player will be throwing a prototype disc mold that is provided as part of the player's package. With the addition of more sponsorships, we will be able to pay out to the top three finishes.

There is plenty of information about these events on our website. I would strongly encourage you to check it and the LDGA forum.

I sent in a request yesterday to order an officials test. It was 10 dollars plus almost another 10 in shipping and handling.

Cheech,
yeah it is called a controlled burn and they try to do it every year. they did not do it the past 2 years due to the droubt. they will be discussing it at the parks meeting next tuesday that i posted about in the meetings thread. they do it to control the bugs and keep the underbrush thin in the woods surrounding the park. alothough it causes a little grief jsut after the burn it is a good thing.

furthermore i am glad chi brought this up because Dave's tree service has been hired to remove the 2 trees flagged on hole 6 as well as the dead tree at the corner of hole 4 down by the basket. Dave Matteson of the county parks department should have the exact date of when the tree service will be out there. it will be next week sometime. keep your fingers crossed everybody.

The new Practice putting basket sleeve was installed yesterday. Thanks out to Greg Davis, Nick Hoffman, Brant Calkin. Dave George, and John Moncreif, for their help in getting this done.
It was a long and tedious process but it is finally here. The final installation will be Monday evening February 22nd at 6 p.m. Come on out for the kickoff. Props out to the Corning Disc League and the New Hanover Disc Golf Club for raising all the funds needed for the purchase of the basket. The Ace Race paid for a chunk of this and the CDL fundraiser discs made up the remainder. Thanks to everyone that contributed.

Thanks Chi, here's from the letter I received this morning.

Just received voicemail from Bill Walker with Forest Service and said if weather cooperates they are scheduled to burn this Friday March 5 2010 at Castle Hayne Park.

Mark: They are going to put signage out but we need to close the parks, possibly for the entire day, if we can get the word out.

We apologize for any inconvenience but we are at the mercy of the forest service to make the best judgment call as when to complete the controlled burn.

From the DGRus site:
2010 Ace Race disc: The 2010 Ace Race prototype is a fast, overstable midrange. It has good speed for a mid, longer glide than you'll expect, and a medium strong
finish. When you turn it over it will always come back unless you
really torque it. Will hold a line in a moderate to strong headwind.
We are looking forward to hearing the chains you ring with it!

I wanted to add a few thoughts here on the club and what it's meant to me over the past year.

Anybody that's played a few rounds with me know that I've been unemployed for quite a while. Few know how much this game has helped me through this strange time and I owe a great deal to everybody involved at the Castle for supporting and organizing such a great experience to be part of.

As of Monday afternoon I'm anticipating a job offer in Annapolis, MD. Now I'm trying to sell my house and relocate with enough time to settle in before my wife and I expect our first child.

Disc golf has become my outlet to forget the hard times and just have fun. This club has been extraordinary as far as accepting novice players like myself and teaching me along the way. I will always remember the Castle as the course that taught me how to play and I will make return trips as much as possible.

well I'm back from Michigan and played 7 courses in 6 days. Wave that's a total of 61 for me now, so I've made up some ground on you. Whose gonna get to 70 first? Anyway I played:

Brighton High School - 9 holes
Black Locust in Milford - 27 holes
Bandemer Park in Ann Arbor - 9 holes 3 sets of tees
Independence Lake in Whitmore Lake - 18 holes
Lakeshore in Ypsilanti - 28 holes
Hudson Mills in Dexter Original - 24 holes
Hudson Mills Monster - 24 holes

Great courses and parks, they take their disc golf seriously up there, can't wait to go back.

The new course in Charlotte, Eastway Park, is on the front page of the pdga website right now. Drew Tuck and I passed through Charlotte on the way back from Hickory last weekend and played it. It's pretty wide open, long, and beautiful. Stan, his wife, and R Kelly were digging out the tee-box forms while we played.

They were about to begin hole 12 when we passed through. We decided to give them a hand. About an hour later we had the hard ground dug out and the form placed, ready for concrete.

They mentioned putting The New Hanover Disc Golf Club on the sign to thank us for helping them out. I think that would be pretty cool. Especially since I saw several Charlotte club members walk right by them as they worked.

It was me, Drew Tuck, D-Tuck, and Brad Tuck that helped them out. I hope our name actually gets put on the sign..Pretty cool of them.

I'll be heading that way soon and will take a pic if it really happens.

Anyways, just a heads up.

From the county Parks Dept. Info. released today.

Good afternoon. I have spoken with several of you in the past couple of weeks and thought it might be helpful to send out an e-mail to share information with all of you. We continue to make steady progress on the Arrowhead project. At this point we are putting the final touches on the park design and preparing for the bidding process. We hit a small glitch with water/sewer but believe we have that worked out and will be able to bid the project in the next week or two. I will send you all a note with the bid opening date as soon as it is established. We generally put things out to bid for about a month to give contractors ample time to provide us solid bids. I know waiting has been painstaking but we truly are getting there. Thank you to all of you who have been helping us be our eyes and ears in the neighborhood in assisting us in cutting down on the ATVs and vandalism, your efforts are much appreciated.

It is with great sadness to report that the NHDGC and our community lost an original Club member and friend. Renee Goings made her transition due to a sudden and unexpected illness this week. Chris Goings is her husband and although some of you may not have known them, they were helpful in the early days of our Club. I'll have information at our scheduled Monthly competition tomorrow of her services.

You set the pace bro. Way to finish strong in the final round to make it a PCP sweep.
Big congrats to NC's newest Pro Big Wave Dave. 205 clams and a great battle right down to the last hole. Looking forward to the next one.
