I talked to Carlos, the Project Manager for the Pearsall Park project. He indicated the park was scheduled to be open by January 1, 2008. That date is subject to change. He wants to coordinate a grand opening with us where we can gather local disc golfers to come play the course. More details to come ... :o

Consultant, Re-Designer, peon, nobody. You could use all of those to describe it.
Brian gave the design firm my name. They had already laid it out on paper. Nobody from the firm had ever played the game. Brian had given them basic information on how to lay out a course. They called and I met them on site to help out.
Thank goodness we were watching where we were going, hole five had us teeing off and then walking off a 35 foot cliff, well maybe not that high, but at least 25 feet. They had the right intentions, but not the right details.
We redesigned it in about three sessions together. I had come out several more times between the times that we had met. I think that what we had put down on paper was again changed by what I had seen last.
The park has some real potential, but I do not think that it wil be used to that great potential. Most of what I had talked to them about, the middle 7-9 holes, were redesigned away from the creek. I have not been out there in about a year, I sort of got PO'ed with them. I guess I need to go out there and see what has or has not happened. I still have the redesigned layout. It would be interesting to see how it plays out.
See you Saturday moring.

When he gives you a definite date, why not open with a mini?

It would be even better to get the media involved. A well run mini with well behaved golfers just might have some influence for Voelker.
Maybe this idea, invite the people on the Voelker Committee to play. Do a doubles like the Live Oak Military/Civilian Tournament.
Maybe not a great idea, but something to kick around.

Sorry, I don't have the ability to post it without a place to host it. It's a pretty big file, if anybody knows how to make it smaller, I could send it to them and then they might be able to host it.
As said earlier, what I have is what i had helped design. What is being built, has changed, I think.
This was suppose to be opened before NANI and McClain, but because of this park being the old city dump, permits had to be changed and ball fields redesigned before they would proceed with the DG course. This is at least 3 years in the making.

I got a call from Carlos today. There is good news and bad news.
Bad news first ... He let me know there have been some delays with he park construction and as a result the park and the course won't be opening until Spring 2008. :(
The good news is he said the park is looking great and should be an great design. He walked the park a few days ago and liked what he saw and is looking forward to working with us.

I got an email from the design firm and will be out at the park with them in the next few weeks. The design that I got from SAPAR seems to be a lay out that was not approved and that the layout that the design firm and I had done a couple of years ago is still the go to lay out.
I will let people know of the progress. Proposed completion date looks like March-April of '08. They have asked that you do not go out there with out an invitation, because it now a hard hat area and construction is going on on other parts of the park such as lights and fences. There are also some old under ground wells that are covered, but can be dangerous.
I am now getting excited again about this park.

Good Afternoon,
Brian, Joe and I met with the Architecs, Construction Manager, and the city this afternoon out at Pearsall Park. We did a tour of the course and looked at the design. With all of the regulations that the state has imposed, this due to Pearsall being the old City of San Antonio Land Fill, the original layout and the layout that was reconstructed have been mixed to complete the disc golf course.
The first couple of holes are a little bland, but after hole 5, we get into the meat of the course and it looks as if it will play very nicely. It is not championship caliber, but it is not a beginner course either. We did some tweaking and moving of some fairways for safety purposes, but not much had to be done. The construction company has already started to clear fairways. The drop off cliff that was to be the original hole 5 and then redesigned to play around to an easier access, was brought back into the design when the construction company bulldozed down and found a ledge and incline to place the basket on.
Talk is that we could be up and running in a little over 60 days. The holdback is the other construction company that has the bid on the fields and a fence that they are suppose to erect. There is a possibility that sometime around Spring Break that we could have a possile opening to be able to play the course, for 'final okay' of the project. Talking with representatives of the city we asked also for trash cans along the course.
There will be concrete tee pads which were not part of the original proposal. They will be 6x10 with a level surface both in front and behind to give a total of approximately13-16 feet of run up space.
Thanks Brian and Joe for meeting me out at the park and helping with the decisions and tweaking.
The Construction Manager.....would that happen to be Dutch Construction? I know in these kinds of projects, there may be more then one. If so, got a great insider. He actually texted me the other day to let me know that they would be starting in about 3 weeks. I believe they are involved in the installation part.
Thanks for going out there guys. We are looking forward to San Antonio's new addition.
Let me know if I can help with anything!!!!!

I do not know the construction company's name. The person that was reviewing the course with us was a man named Johnny.
There are two construction companies working on this project, one doing the soccer fields and the other doing the dgcourse. parking lots, and other ammenities such as water fountains, bathrooms and other nice touches.
It's official.........a subdivision called Inwood Hollow is going to have a 9 hole course :D this summer. I believe it's a Houcke design. Thanks Joe for sending Property Management in the right direction!!!!!
Anything to help the cause.
