Bill Geibel says :
I would like to put my 2 cents in to why my name is on the options as TD of the 30th Norman Pro Am .
First things first however ,
For anyone who does not know me , which I doubt in that neck of the woods there are many but , My name is Bill Geibel . I have been playin disc golf in the Oklahoma area since 1994/95 .
I have met many of the movers and shakers in the Oklahoma area and have had many expereinces and here are just a few of both .
Starting back in 1995 was one of my first times out there I met Kent Johnson of Massive graphics and he let me play my first round at NE Lions with him and his group .
He invited me back to his company shop and helped me get started with some lightning discs which I came back to PA and sold and have been in the business end of disc golf ever since .
Later on I met Darryl Johnson at the 2nd woodpecker open ( Dolese was the course but this was before baskets were in the ground and we shot at wooden posts ) ,
Then came 1998 and it was my first Norman Pro Am . ( the 20th overall ) .Greg and Tammy Smith ran the event and gave me the most fun award .
I have also been at the 27th Norman Pro am that Chrispy and Danny ran . Also I have been at the 1st and 2nd Griffen Park Open and plan on attending the 3rd this spring if the weekend stays the same . I also played in the Am worlds that was in Tulsa in 2005 .
I have also been out for 3rd Revolutionary War , which is where I met Steve King . I am also going to be at this years rev war which I think is on Dec 1st .
During the last 2 years I have made the GPO , I have also made the 28th and 29th Norman Pro am and been a sponsor . I , at the 28th helped with final details and some course clean up prior to the event . At the 29th is where I did alot of work for the course proir to the event , and basically between my wife and I, were a major part of the tourney staff .
I really enjoy the sport of disc golf , and more to the point enjoy the people I have gotten to meet out in Oklahoma .
I want to say at this time it is NOT my intention to be the TD of the 30th Norman Pro AM .
It is my intention however , to RUN , the 30th Norman Pro AM .( which basically means the TD, who as far as I know is Steve King , can play in the event since it is the 30th I think all the local people who have had ANYTHING in the past with this tourney should be there and play ) The reason for this is basically cause as I have said many times before that the Norman crew and alot of the people I have met in OK have become a second family to me . As most of you know my job makes me travel along way from home and to be close to people who care for you and who you care for is something to cherish .
So by me " running " the 30th pro am it is my way of showing you ( all of you ) how much you mean to me .

Nice post, Bill.
So why did the Sooner DG admins decide to make the Norman Pro/Am TD job up for grabs?
lafsaledog
Nov 15 2007, 05:24 PM
I really dont think , as brendimeyers post states , it is up for grabs .
As a person who is an adopted Normanite , I personally am not going to get into any politics . My post stands as the reason I am volenteering to " run " the 30th pro am .
However , I will say this .
I would hope the 30th Pro am ,as historic as it is ,that ALL people involved ( past and present ) would possibly play ,
maybe donate something to the event ( via tourney sponsorship or time to help ) or at least show up for the final nine and awards , because an event like this ( the 30 years of an event or like tomorrow in your state the 100th anniversary )
is pretty special .

You are right, it is special.
Maybe a "TD Team" can be assembled so that everyone can play the tournament. That way it can be celebrated by all, just a thought.

I would welcome Kyle as the TD but I can tell you that when I was out there last time , I spoke to Kyle and he told me he does not want to be the TD cause he wants to play in the tourney ( and why not cause he is good enough to compete for good money ) and the TD must sit out at a tourney that big . I have sat out at less attended tourneys cause I wanted to make sure things went off without a hitch .
Now I am sure that if Kyle changes his mind he would be a great TD . Along those lines , I still stand by my statements as to why I would sit out and " run " the event .

Played NE Lions last night. There are quite a few changes to the "amatuer layout." Steve has already put down paint marking to ensure we kiddies knew where the am pads are going to be.
I had never played #10 with an "am tee" before. It is really a different hole, but still a good challenge. Apparently it is reach-able, I put my drive past the basket. It usually takes me three-shots to get close from the back-tees.
Same can be said of the apparently new am-tee for #14. Being on top of the hill helps out and it is nice to be actually looking at the basket from the tee. The pad area itself needs leveling. My woman Tina par'd #14 last night, I think she'll like that "am layout."
Naturally, the dilemma continues with #13. I sure hope Steve is testing out his current markings. The "am tee" for #13 sure seems more difficult than the new "pro tee." With the 25-40 mph winds last night, I could barely carry the water from my tee shot.

Warm and windy both days. There's always next year. I had to go by some plastic today to replenish what I threw in the lake.

First ,
I hope everyone ( or at least most everyone ) had a good time .
Except for a few bumpy moments , I feel that the tourney went mostly well . I did make a mistake or 2 , namely rushing the B flight off to Colonial without giving them enough time to eat , and mixing up a few scores from scorecard to computer ( sorry SNAKE twice )
One of the areas I wanted to make sure went better was the awards and I feel that was definatly better then the last 2 years .
Basically Jason Bieda , Bill Yardsale Sheely and myself sat up saturday night and did all we could to get prizes set aside and taken care of so awards would go off easier .
I know that the ring of fire is done to help the TD prepare for the awards and THANK YOU DJ for doing what you do , but the fact that we were ready for awards before the RING of fire started was probably our best accomplishment .
On other areas ,
We were blessed with good weather ( at least in central OK that weekend ) and what turned out to be a decent time had by all .
I would hope that for my own accomplishments would be that I would be added to the list of Tds who would be welcome back if the oppertunity ever existed for me to do this again .
THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO BE A PART of this event , and hopefully I will see you all again .

Thanks a bunch to Penn Bill, King, Daryl, Bieda, Yardsale, and all of the Normaneites that made the Pro-Am such a success! The tournament seemed to run smooth and in a very timely fashion, which is great! The Pro-Am is definitely one of my favorite tournaments and I look forward to the years to come. You guys' efforts are greatly appreciated.

You did a great job Bill and I for one appreciate your efforts. As far as I am concerned, you can come down here and run one any time you want. Even if it's not in Norman. :D Yes and Steve and the rest of your crew did a great job also!!
Hey but quit moving the basket!!! :D j/k

The results are posted, but no ratings.

because the TD report has already been submitted. once the "official" scores are in, the "unofficial" ratings go away. the "official" ratings won't show up until the next update.

Thanks Bill. You should see Lion's now. The trees, anything and everything green is super thick, including the lake. Somebody's fertilizer from their yard has been draining down to it. There is a distinct blue line (water level) from the rain we had last week. The humiditiy and blazing sun for this weekend was almost deadly. We are expecting rain this week so the water level will probably rise pretty high again. Sixteen is still on the point, only there is even less room for error due to the water level. The reeds that are down at the shore, are now about 4-6ft away from the shore.

J_ace, You have a reply to your message. For anybody who may be concerned about sleeping on the damp ground at The Lodge, we will leave the clubhouse open for camping indoors and off the damp ground. The majority of the floor is concrete so you need to bring some soft bedding to lay on. :)
