For those of you who don't speak Wiseish this roughly translates to...
: "I am too old to play two rounds of that shizznit...so I will go down Sunday, after everyone else has exerted themselves on Saturday, and grab the easy win"

So....who's going? All the cabins are taken right? Are the tent sites close to the cabins?
Mapquest tells me it's a 12hr drive, but I think I can name that tune in 10.

I've put a tent up against the wall of one of the cabins before. Time it right and you should be able to cut that ten down to maybe 9 1/2. You know the Canyon, colors were good this time last week, so I can't imagine what it is going to be like this weekend. Oh yeah I do- It's gonna be alll TWISTED!!

6.2 miles to the ranch road, you will see a brown sign that says Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, and the turn will come up fast on to a gravel road. Turn right and the follow the road into the ranch.
These directions are a little confusing to me. Here's a modified version-
1. Take 412 East out of Tulsa all the way to Hwy 21 just east of Marble, AR. Turn right onto Hwy 21 (it's a "T" intersection so the only way you can turn is right)
NOTE- Hwy 412 takes a little "zig" in Springdale at Thompson Avenue. You will have to make a right hand turn at the Hwy 71B stoplight and then a left at the next stoplight about 1/2 a mile away.
2. Follow Hwy 21 thru the square in Kingston, AR, and up and over the mountain to Boxley Valley and Highway 23. You'll have to take a left turn in Kingston to stay on Hwy 21. When you get down into Boxley Valley you will run into another "T" intersection. Turn left here to go North on Hwy 23.
3. Follow Hwy 23 North until it reaches Hwy 74 and turn right (East) onto Hwy 74. It's another "T" intersection. If you go past Hwy 74 you will end up in Ponca, AR and will need to turn around. When you get on Hwy 74 you will immediately cross a bridge over the Buffalo River.
4. Follow Hwy 74 East up the mountain past Steel Creek and through Low Gap, AR. A couple miles past Low Gap you will see a brown sign on the left that says "Horseshoe Canyon Ranch" -the turn will come up fast on the right onto a gravel road. Turn right and the follow the road into the ranch.

There are two computers at the Lodge, otherwise there is no internet access.. Cell phones are kind of iffy too..
I can't remember all of the results but this morning the first three advanced players were:
Heath Whitley 58??
Joe Rotan 60??
Andrew Treat 62
The weather is looking great for tomorrow as well.
It's not to late to head down

Wow! What a day. We leave at 4:15am and return at 8:30pm and only played one round. As always well worth the drive. :D
The Canyon was showing all her colors this weekend along with some fairly stiff wind.
Joe and the twisted crew had a great turnout of over 70 players for a one day event located in the middle of nowhere. I know there were people from Chicago, KC, Wichita, Tulsa, Sprinfield, St Louis and others. What a beautifull day. :D

HellYeah Wise...that is a good description...except for the waking up at 4 thing... :p
This next piece is titled "Response to my first visit Horseshoe Canyon"
My dad and I started things out at about 8:45 on Friday when we left Tulsa.
We played Fish's private course at his home. Which is a really fun round around Fish's backyard....
We then continued to the Canyon.
We checked in and quickly went out and played the course....sometime around 2:30... I think...
Seeing this course brought me back to my Boy Scout days because Camp Orr is only 3 miles down the road from it. The Scout camp has a huge piece of that big shelf rock that hangs right over the river....very cool....but anyway....
There were a few holes that I can remember having the feeling of....hmmm this is way more fun that McClure.....
However, my first true impulse was that I did not like the layout of the course. Not because it is a lefty friendly course, which it is but more on that later, but because I thought they could have done more with the land they have...
But through the weekend I came to realize that there is a fine line between stunningly beautiful disc golf and exhaustion... :D....As in, I could envision a teepad that throws off a really high rock or something, but at some point the hassle of getting up and down hill eighteen times on rocky to mixed terrain can spoil the round.
I now appreciate the layout and I think that it has to be my number three favorite course behind the Lodge (#2) and Blackhawk (#1).
It is my undisputed favorite course as far as beauty is concerned...
But that is only the tip of the iceberg...
We had a very fun round on Saturday and that night we all rocked the basement of the Lodge out and did a Guitar Hero III tournament doubles style...
We had a Twisted Skillz challenge after every round and the course was a blast...and Joe hooked it up hard on the last skillz test "hole", or whatever, when he said that he would award free entry to the Canyon next year, as well as the Lodge next year, to anyone who could get a disc in each of the three shapes you could land your throw in....(there were three shapes that were out in front of you, the closest was a square worth 10, next a circle worth 10, and last a triangle with fifteen.)
There were three winners to my knowledge....Heath, Fish, and myself.
Needless to say we were all ecstatic! :D
Joe also started us up with the ring of fire in the morning, so we could all warm up together which I have never seen before and really enjoyed....
It was an amazing event, and Joe and Kelldog did a great job with everything.....!
Thanks to everyone who helped put this event on and see you next year! :)

The "short course" is a misnomer...
That thing is pretty long as well. It plays around the camp area so you don't feel like your 50 miles from your cabin :o

any Okies that didn't make Canyon Fest '07 need to definitely make '08, any Horseshoe Canyon event should be a must attend kinda event, such as the Ice Bowl coming up on Feb. 23rd..........
the course is awesome enough, the wind was extremely fun to play in until I had a putt blow out of the chains before I could retrieve it
those scores speak for theirselves and those that shot the 57's or low 60's were playing truly outstanding golf
very cool seeing rated rounds at Horseshoe

I noticed Fayed Nicholson beat his pops!!! Wow!!!
Beat is not the word for it...more like absolutely DOMINATED his pops. I was very proud of him. As was eluded to earlier, I only had one 3 and one 2...the rest were 4s or worse...OUCH!! But I got to play on the dream card of 'lil Treat, Heath and Fish. We had a great time!! I did stay up until 2am saturday taking all the KC, MO, OK boys money in poker to the tune of $110. I took out Reese Swinea (Fly 18 guy) and Jack Lowe. So all in all it was a kick arse weekend. Thanks to Joe, Keldog and Papa Treat. As always it was run perfectly!! The skills challenge was the best one yet for sure! Will definately be back next year.

Domination was the name of the game! How many courses have a sanctioned course record of +3, and how many of those do you get a cabin and hot tub with? :D A BIG Thank You to Joe, Kelly, and Twisted Flyer for bringing eveyone together. The A.M. ring of fire was very cool, playing to music was awesome, and even though i was a stroke or two out, i heard the payouts were sick twisted. Big Dave, that was a rockin' anthem, the canyon never sounded so good. What about the player's packages though...you go and let all these kids loose on the canyon with brand new champ and pro destroyers, where's the bandaids, where's the pamprin? And did you see how the wind picked just as the first canyon stamp went sailing through the air. Awesome to see such nice players packs at the canyon. :D:D:D I want to give some props to the arkie boys for shooting some respectible golf out there, for having one, flat, no tee pad course these kids are getting good! Allright, I'll give some props to the okie boys too, the canyon abides. You okies best be watching out though. And one last thing, I am watching Steady Ed on Ripley's Believe It or Not right now.....Thank You to everyone who give to others the joy that is Disc Golf. :DThat was a lot of fun out there!
