The 2008 Las Vegas Gentlemen's Club Challenge (IX), hosted by seven "gentlemen" who love the sport (not an adult-themed strip club...like many may think) is set for February 29, March 1, and March 2, 2008. (The weekend before the Memorial in AZ.) Like last year, this is a three-day, one round a day, event with assigned tee times. The entry form and other information is posted at www.lvdiscgolf.com. (http://www.lvdiscgolf.com.) This is also the same weekend as NASCAR, so GET YOUR HOTEL RESERVATIONS NOW!!! We don't not have a host hotel (been working on it for a few years, but nothing has panned out), but many non-Strip hotels are located within close driving distance to Sunset Park, such as Sunset Station, Green Valley Ranch, South Coast, Terribles, Silverton, Fiesta, Hooters...all large gaming hotels & casinos; or DoubleTree Hotel on Warm Springs, Candlewood on Paradise, Tahiti Village on south Las Vegas Blvd, La Quinta on Paradise, Hamption Inn on Dean Martin, Residence Inn by Marriott on Green Valley/Sunset, Coutyard by Marriott at Green Valley/Sunset, Embassy Suites on Paradise, Holiday Inn Express on Rainbow, Homewood Suites on Eastern...all non-gaming, smaller/typical hotels, just to name a few.

Amateur divisions tee first with the premier field (Open) teeing last. Last tee time around 2:00 PM. First tee time around 7:00 AM. The amateur field is limited to 72 players...period (which still makes it an A-Tier event), and limited to only the Expert, Advanced, and Advanced Masters divisions. Ams better get their entries in soon because I know I will be turning away about 50 players. (We don't have enough volunteers in Vegas to host this event at two courses, which is why the Am field is limited. But, the Halloween Classic, which will cater to the Ams in 2008, makes up for the limited field at the GCC.)

Last year, over $7,500 was collected in sponsorships for the GCC, and we had over 180 players. In 2007, 1st place MPO got $1,280, 1st place FPO got $600, 1st place MPM got $665, 1st place FPM got $380, 1st place MPG got $455, 1st place MA1 got $120, 1st place FW1 got $85, and 1st place MM1 got $105. These payouts exceeded some National Tours!!!

As of October 31, 2007 (yes, 4 months before our tournament), almost $6,000 has been sponsored towards our event. Innova's Candy Fund-Raiser program, and sales by DiscGolfValues / Mark Molnar, has ALREADY raised almost $4,500. (I have one 2008 GCC Championship Destroyer that I might let got at our silent auction at the GCC...say for $80, and maybe a 2004 full-color GCC stamp, say for even more.) Additionally, DiscGolfValues ALSO sold some 2007 discs after our tournament last year, which is adding another $500 to the pot. The Las Vegas Disc Golf Club is sponsoring $500. I, your TD, am sponsoring at least $250 cash...and maybe more if a disc golfer will buy a house using my wife as their real estate agent!!! Duane Kline, Marc Lumos, Arek Whitmyer, and Keith Johnston have already sponsored a hole for $30.

InnColor discs will NOT be available for the 2008 GCC event. (Unless a miracle happens.) But, this just makes all previous GCC InnColor discs more valuable!!!!

See you in Vegas in February/March 2008!!!

Do you want us to be 2008 PDGA current before we sent in the money or can we send in the money and renew prior to the event?

You do not need to renew prior to registering for the event. Just do that as soon as you can, before the event. The Am divisions might fill before the end of the year.

We have three more sponsors!!! Jeff "Old School" Kennedy ponied up $40. Tom Lowry and Team Oklahoma kicked in $100. I hear Sheri Jazembak and Team Buffalo will match that donation for another $100...and challenges other states to step up for this kick butt tournament!!! And Adam Wilson and Richard Murray (Washington boys) tossed in $30 more. Bamba "Little Pony" hasn't indicated how much he is willing to donate to his GREAT Vegas friends!!!

We are at $6,065 in sponsorships!!! And I hear there is a very slight chance...very very slight chance...we might, if the heavens allows, get a few InnColor discs. Shall we start the bidding around $35 a disc?

As soon as I send in the 2008 PDGA Sanctioning Agreement, we can start to post the sign ups on the web. I HAVE 17 AMS ALREADY signed up, and only 72 total spots. I also already have 10 Pros signed up.

Since the PDGA changed the Expert and Advanced proposed divisions to Advanced and Intermediate, my entry form is wrong. A revised entry form will be posted on lvdiscgolf.com very soon. For those that used the old form and signed up as Expert, you are now Advanced. For those that used the old form and signed up as Advanced, you are now Intermediate. If you want to change divisions based on the final PDGA Am classifications, please let me know at [email protected]

P.S. Not only do we have a great (say $30) Am player package (I wonder what Sam Ferrans will sponsor?), but we will also pay out 50% of the field. Last year, we added just over $1,000 to the Am fields, which equaled a $127 payback!!!

Where did I say I was running the tournament. I just answered his question from your post before his. It seems to me that all he cared about was the payout. He asked about the payout on the memorial thread. The payout at Vegas was great this year but that isnt what is all about.

I agree payout shouldn't be what it's all about, but it does matter. I have a difficult decision every year between Vegas or Memorial. Last time I chose Memorial, this time I'm choosing Vegas. I'm not doing it for prizes, or I would not be throwing myself into the MA1 category.
There are multiple reasons for choosing Vegas, but this is not the thread for that DISCussion. I will however say that location had a major influence on my decision. :o
I wish I could play both...

More like the 989 rated Intermediate. That is definately a mistake.
The 936 rated bagger probably assumes that he will do poorly at an Ice Bowl event so his rating will drop. :)

Received 5 more Am entries. Only 43 Am spots left. Get entries in mail NOW!!!! Am player packages include at least an Innova mini, an Innova hot stamp DX disc, and an Innova hot stamp Star disc. Working on more goodies for you guys. Pro player packages is an Innova hot stamp Pro Destroyer.

This is the last update until early January. I'm in Colorado for the holidays.

Received another hole sponsorship for $30. Thanks Stuart Krall (PDGA #13321) from North Carolina!!! Total sponsorship in hand to date about $6,600.

We should be getting 50 Star Ontario Rocs. These will be $25 each. Go to discgolfvalues.com to purchase them. When all these are sold, another $500 to $750 added to the tournament. (Thanks Innova & Chicken!!!)

Also, got approval for 50 InnColor discs. Don't have them in yet, but about 30 have ALREADY been sold for $30 to $35 each to local players who are helping run Las Vegas events. Will likely start to put them up on ebay when we get them. ALL PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO THE TOURNAMENT!!!! When I sell all 50, this is ANOTHER $1,000 (at least) sponsorhsip thanks to Innova's fund-raising program!!!! If you sponsor a hole (or have already), I might reserve these limited discs for you for $30 (maybe $35, depending on how fast they go!).

The more sponsorship I collect, the deeper the payout!!! My goal is to pay back 75% of the Pro field, and still have 1st Place Pro take home at least $1,500 or so...likely more.

You really don't want to miss this tournament. AGAIN...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Jeff,
Have the front few feet of the tee pads been acid etched yet? I know there has been talk for years about getting it done, but in Oct. it seemed liked it for sure would get done after the event.
If not, I honestly don't mind doing it on the Thursday before the event, and will be happy to do so, if I could get someone to help me by following behind me with a 5 gallon bucket of water to rinse the pads off with.
It would make the tee situation SO much better and I'd be extremely happy to do it.(seriously)

Also, I was curious if you ever found Lorelei's tee sign from the Nov event as I would like to add it to the "collection".

Thanks for EVERYTHING you and the other guys do for Vegas disc golf and I'll see you next month.

Thanks for offering to help. They were acid washed last week. I don't know by who or how. I'd suggest checking priceline or something, and avoiding downtown las vegas. there are a lot of comfort inn type places to the southeast of the strip(closer to the airport/course). everything is going to be expensive, pretty much.

I was going to suggest The Orleans as they are probably the best value(similar price to a comfort inn, but as nice as some of the strip hotels) in vegas, but I just looked and they said its booked that weekend online. Still might want to give them a call though and check.

If your flying in then look around for Las Vegas package deals(flight+hotel), decent chance you can stay in a nice hotel for the price of a average place off the strip with some of these. The way to find these is to go to one of the resorts home page(bellagio, monte carlo, MGM grand i know all do this, and so do sites like priceline). I just looked @ some and from what I know it easily cuts off $100+ for 2 nights.

MAJOR UPDATE NOTICE...

All the Ams Fields are closed except Advanced (MA1)...period. No ifs, ands, or buts unless the Pro Fields don't fill. (And I am sure they will.) A waiting list has started for the Intermediate and Master Am Divisions. The Advanced Divisions (Women and Men) will likely close after this weekend. If you have already booked flights and reserved a hotel room and your name is not on the PDGA website as a sign up, then you can play Advanced unless someone cancels from the other divisions or unless that division fills. Pro fields have lots of spots left!

To reserve an Am spot and to be added to the official waiting list, I must receive a completed entry with a check or money order. It will not be cashed until a guarantee from me that you are in the tournament.

We have 75 sign ups. Our first FPO has signed up (Juliana Korver...assuming her arm heals).

Also, last year we collected about $7,500 in sponsorships. At this time, we are around $7,700...and I know more is coming. The Trotter Family will be providing free water for the tournament. Jeremy Rusco and Dynamic Discs gave $30. Jon Canonico, a GCC member, is tossing in at least $50. The SynDISCate, a group of local golfer trying to do their thing to promote our sport...and running Vegas's IceBowl in a month...has given $500!!! They will be selling merchandise at our event, so make sure you support them. They have also set the standard to sell merchandise at the GCC. If you want to sell, you need to match their donation ($500). If you don't, and we catch you selling items out of the trunk of your car, the police will be called. (Isn't fair to those that pay to play!!!) Finally, Innova and DiscGolfValues strikes again. Another $500 from the CFR program by selling 40 Star Ontario Rocs. Thanks Mark and Innova!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maps are almost done and will be posted on lvdiscgolf.com. A tournament packet will also be provided this year and posted on the tournament website as well. You will be impressed with the course layout (it gets harder every day)...and maybe even scared!

P.S. NASCAR is the same weekend as the GCC, so hotels are going to be hard to find, especially on the Strip.

The Wild Wild West is very close to the strip and you can easily get to the course from there. I have heard the rooms are decent. It is located adjacent to a truck stop and local truck yard. It is across the street from a weekly apartment place which is a huge meth-head hangout so I would not leave your valuables in your car or in your room when you leave.

You will be fine staying there. However, for the most part- you get what you pay for in this town when it comes to rooms.

Innova and DGC does it again...Ams do get a BLACK Aviar in their players package. (Plus more...of course.)

Pro entries are beginning to roll in. Making some last minute adjustments to the course so it exceeds the distance requirements for an average Open player (greater than 350 feet per hole, on average) Last round is over 400 fett per hole, on average!

Also got a CTP on hole #24. Cool limited run Goblin disc from Innova and a CTP trophy by John O'Connell!!!

Also, are taxi's really expensive in Vegas? We are debating on whether or not to rent a car. We are looking at staying at Tropicana or Sahara maybe... We decided to NOT stay at the Wild Wild West after reading some reviews. One of which stated this couple's key didn't work in the door, they went to the front desk for assistance, they went and unlocked the room which had clothes and other things lying around the room, come to find out it was a crime scene in which wasn't supposed to be rented out. ha no thanks! :)

UPDATE.

I still have a few, very few, Amateur spots left. If you want one, call me to verify that your division has an opening. If three FW1 don't sign up very, very soon, those spots will be given to the MA1 field. (P.S. I work and have two little kids, so please don't call until after 5 PM Vegas time and not after 9 PM Vegas time.)

Another $1,000 added by Innova via the InnColor program. We are getting 50 InnColor discs. Almost all of the discs are being bought by locals who are help with the event. (And therefore, they should deserve first pick!) IF any are left, they will be sold for $35 each at the tournment. And please don't ask me to reserve you one unless you have sponsored $50 or more.

And, another $250 added by the GCC via local disc sales.

Add these two amounts to the previous total I listed, and we have over $10,000 in sponsorships!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Course layouts are done. Individual color maps and tournament scorecards will be posted at lvdiscgolf.com soon.
Friday's course has 23 holes, is 8,900 feet long, with an average distance of 387 feet per hole. Saturday's course has 21 holes, is 9,100 feet long, with an average distance of 433 feet per hole. Sunday's course has 20 holes, is 9,200 feet long, with an average distance of 460 feet per hole. (This is an A-Tier Event!!!)

CTP, like usual, is hole #24 for a disc and a cool tournament, hand-carved trophy provided John O'Connell. These are sooooooo cool!!

Amateur payouts pretty much done. You get AT LEAST a $35 player package, 50% of the field is paid, and 130% payback for the Am divisions...which is over $1,200 added to the entries.

Sheri - I am begging Sam to play, but she has school and doesn't play much. She is also Open now...I think. But, she will be there everyday helping us...and sponsoring a hole!

The Lodge - Too cool. I left you a voice mail. You can also e-mail me at [email protected] Any logos or web links can be sent to that e-mail address.

Other Sponsorship Interests - If you haven't played GCC, I get pretty creative with the tee signs. They are in color, 8 1/2" x 11", and laminated. You should ask Bamba Rico (or Steve) or Mark Molnar (Disc Golf Values) about some of their previous tee signs.

good call on not staying @ The Wild West. Jeff was right in that you get what you pay for in vegas.

Better to stay @ the southern part of the strip- so Tropicana is a much better bet than Sahara for you. You will save a good amount of hassle/time not having to deal with the busiest part of the strip.

Renting a car might not be a bad deal, it depends on how much driving your going to do besides the tournament itself. One of the good things about staying in any hotel on the strip is that you can walk to eat/sightsee/gamble. At least in my experience its just better to take a cab if your going around the strip(say one end to the other) because traffic + parking is a huge hassle. you are not going to want to drive to go from say the Tropicana to the Wynn.

basically- taxi's might end up costing slightly more for the trip, but I think the hassle you will save will be worth it.

Guess we are looking at staying at the Riviera now as our buddy who is going has a relative that can get us a pretty good discount. So I'm not positive which end of the strip it is at. Also about the car rental, we'll probably only rent it the 3 days of the tournament and figured we would walk or cab it the rest of the week there.

johnbiscoe
Jan 16 2008, 07:46 PM
if you're there for a week get the car for the whole time, by the end of 5 days you'll be more than ready to get away from the strip. zion national park or hoover dam are good day trips for strip burnout.

oh, and drive up koval whenever possible instead of on the strip itself.

Received more entries. Update on PDGA site. Over 115 so far.

We are able to accommodate 24 more players this year than last year. 8 minutes between tee times. FW2 tees at 7 AM. MA2 tee between 7:08 AM and 7:48 AM. MM1 tee between 8:04 AM and 8:36 AM. FW1 tees at 8:44 AM. MA1 tee between 8:52 AM and 9:48 AM. All pro divisions tee after 10:00 AM.

I have 1 FW2 spot open (Our good friend Sheri is being bumped up to FW1 or MA2 or FPO). I have NO MA2 spots open. I have 4 MM1 open. I have 2 FW1 open (Come on ladies, Sheri needs some competition!!!). I have 5 MA1 spots open. I added a few more Am spots than listed on the entry form. Total Am field is 79 players now, which allows for a few three-somes to prevent back-ups.

I have lot of spots open for all the pro fields, but don't wait until the last minute!!!!

I just posted the following discussion uder the PDGA Topics, Rules & Standards area.

Thoughts?

....We are adding some big cash this year to the Las Vegas Gentlemen's Club Challenge (like collecting $11,000 in Pro entries and maybe adding $10,000 in cash to the Pro payouts). I am not probihited from paying more than 50% of the field....correct? (The Sanctioning Agreement states a minimum of 40%.)

Thought...Why should only the top 50% of the Pro players benefit from all the cash added (which again, is almost 100% of their entries)? If the 1st place Open still wins the same amount of money we paid out in the 2007 Gentlemen's Club Challnge, (which beats some National Tour payouts) then it may make since to pay out 60% or 70% (or something greater than 50%) of the field so (1) more players are happy, (2) more players benefit from the sponsorships, and (3) since a lot of sponsorships are locally driven, more local players actually win some money at THEIR local event. (Note - not many Vegas players can beat 50% of the field that flies in for the tournament, but the locals helped collect the large cash sponsorships through disc/CFR purchases for the tournament and various sponsorship collections.)

Maybe a payout guideline should be something like...
1) If 100% or less of entries are paid back in cash winnings, then pay 40% of the field (most C-Tier events);
2) If 115% of entries are paid back in cash winnings, then pay 45% of the field (most B-Tier events);
3) If 130% of entries are paid back in cash winnings, then pay 50% of the field (a 125% payback use to be the requirement for Major/A-Tier Events);
4) If 145% of entries are paid back in cash winnings, then pay 55% of the field;
5) If 160% of entries are paid back in cash winnings, then pay 60% of the field;
6) If 175% of entries are paid back in cash winnings, then pay 65% of the field;
7) If 190% of entries are paid back in cash winnings, then pay 70% of the field; and
8) If more than 200% of entries are paid back in cash winnings, then pay 75% of the field.

I still think it is important to pay out BIG to the winners of A-Tier & National events, but a $50 to $100 difference to the top winners of each Pro division (between a 50% payout table and a 60% to 70% payout table), really doesn't impact someone's livelihood that much versus paying more players who likely helped make the event such a great success.

P.S. Including player packages, trophies, CTPs, and Ace Pools, the 2008 GCC will likely have a +200% payback for the Pro fields. Last year, our total Pro payback was 181%.

P.S.S. Our success is because of Innova's CFR, InnColor, and other tournament assistance progams, and disc sales by DiscGolfValues.com/Mark Molnar!!!

I could very easily be one of the finishers in the 60 or 70% range and if I finish in that group I don't think I played well enough to deserve the cash. I personally think that a smaller percentage of players should be paid out and given more money. I just think players should not be rewarded for finishing in the bottom half of the field.

I also think that if 50 or 100 more dollars impacts someone's livelihood much at all, then they should think about a career move of some sort.

I would like to see the top guys get more money for shooting so much better than the rest of the field, 'sub par' performance being rewarded seems to bring lower standards. I want to know that I have to play my best to cash and feel like I deserve what I get. I hope that if I ever reach that level of play, I will be awarded that extra $100 or so for travel expenses to go to the next big tourney instead of it going to a local player who doesn't depend on tournament winnings to get to his or her next tourney. I am all about supporting our top guys, even if it means me not cashing.

Well, with all of that said, I can't wait to come down there and play, no matter what percentage of players are paid out. Those course layouts look pretty amazing. I've never played Vegas, but by the looks of those maps, I would say I am in for a great time.

Jeff- as a donating pro(for now) I really would prefer a shallower payout.

what it comes down to is that those bottom places all make back so little profit(often <2x entry fee), and this makes cashing feel pretty crappy. I think a lot of players would rather have higher last cash value than pay down some more spots.

I think a super flat(60%+) payout should be for AMs, and not pros. If people want ot play pro then they should accept that they need to play well to cash. This way cashing is actually worth something.

BTW- I just moved here, and am excited about having a C tier my 1st weekend here!

On just the normal course layout right now any score around -7 or better is considered pretty good but a -10 or better would be preferred. For the layouts we're gonna be playing this Is my predictions for a 1000 rated round on a calm day.

Chuck- maybe you have the knowledge that I seek. Why the difference in rating chicks and boys? Smaller field? Intermediate chicks are bumped to advanced at 800 rating and boys can wait till 935? Just wondering Also- where does this 935 number come from. Cuz I am reading 915 for advanced boys.

ck34
Jan 31 2008, 02:09 PM
Reality. It's where the distributions of men versus women skill levels fall. Only a handful of women ratings even make it over 934 into the Advanced (mens) division. The Competition Committee considered shifting the Adv/Int break for women up to 850 for 2008 but decided to hold off at least one more year so the number of women had a chance to increase a little more.

Well reality is Sheri with her 804 rating being forced to play against intermediate boys in Vegas because she can't paly against the intermediate girls and there are no other advanced girls to play with. This is not a complaint against the Td or the intermediate boys (They can't beat me forever.) Just stating the facts. This lower rating is not encouraging me to play more. In fact, the more I think about it. I think it would discourage more chicks. Personally, I play against anybody, whatever rating, and I will fight till the last putt but that is not the norm.....when it comes to chicks. Many Many Many Am chicks want to play only other am chicks.

csrenda79
Jan 31 2008, 03:19 PM
Well, with 2 women signed up in Int. women they won't have a full division either. It would make sense to combine the two and since they can move up and you can't move down, they should play Adv. women. If it helps any, I might be able to convince a local 803 rated woman to play if there is a spot for her still available that isn't in the open field. But I think some strings would have to be pulled there.

ck34
Jan 31 2008, 03:28 PM
Sheri, the ratings break has nothing to do with who you could play with at that event if there aren't any players (women) in your rating range to play with. It wouldn't change the number of women entering. The TD could offer Rec and Novice men instead of only going to Intermediate and you might have found closer competition. The fact is that A-tiers limit their divisions to the higher levels because they fill up without offering the lower divisions. The reality is that many men and women have to play up in divisions higher than their rating because that's all that's offered at A-tiers.

sherijazembak
Jan 31 2008, 04:16 PM
No, I completely understand. TRUST ME. I go lots of places with no chicks to play with. Lots and lots of places. And hell yes, you should convince all your chicks to come out and play with me. I lobbied to move it to 850 versus 800 for the Adv/Int women's break to parallel the men's changes. But it was delayed by the Committee. Not sure it would make any difference in turnouts though, but just be more "logical" as you say.

sherijazembak
Jan 31 2008, 05:09 PM
It could even be changed just for the a tiers- I will always choose to play against the intermediate boys in smaller tourneys over playing with one or 2 chicks.

ck34
Jan 31 2008, 05:21 PM
Explain how you think changing the breaks would increase the number of women. I'm interested to understand your logic on this?

sherijazembak
Jan 31 2008, 06:11 PM
Well, if I wasn't a punk butt, and I was looking to go to Vegas or any A tier and I'm looking at a field of 3 chicks, and then I find out that I can't play with the other 3 chicks and there aren't any other chicks to play- I might choose not to play over playing with the boys. Thats all.

ck34
Jan 31 2008, 06:33 PM
You can enter Pro Women to play with those three. Perhaps the TD would let you play Trophy Only for a reduced entry fee. Or if you pay full price you can now earn merch and remain Am if you cash. Second, if the women's ratings breaks had been jumped 50 points, the two women entered below you in rating wouldn't necessarily have had to play with you since there would still be a break at 800 separating Int from Rec women instead of Adv/Int like it is now.

I don't know the answer Chuck. I know I'm not ready to go up against Julianna, Val and Burl. And I would defintely agree that the cost of open versus am would stop me from playing open at this point. Although I have been known to kick down a wad to go play at Marshall Street with a chance in hell of placing. But oh my god the fun!!! Hello, I got to play my first round with Steve Brinster. I am driven and addicted....we will see what I can do next year. The Memorial has ten chicks to play against. I know that I will have a great time. I just wish we can solve the "are there any chicks there" issues.

I must first apologize for the statement that Vegas chicks will do anything for the right price. Not all people in Vegas are buyable. But heck...I might do anything for the right price!!!

We likely have another FW1 signed up. We are good to go for both the FW2 and FW1 fields. We also still have four weeks before the tournament and maybe more will sign up. If we have problems, I WILL PAY ALL OF SHERI'S ENTRY TO PLAY PRO WOMEN...IF SHE WANTS. She has been pumping our tournament on the east coast for quite some time now, and we will make sure she has a good time in Vegas. I just want half the winnings back when I add her scorecard differently than she does and she wins FPO. (Just joking!!!)

2/3/08 Update.

Have almost 150 sign ups. Means only about 50 spots left FOR THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT. So, now you Pros who are not on the list better get your entries in!!!!! I WILL LIKELY BE FULL A WHOLE WEEK BEFORE THE EVENT!!!

For the first time ever, we have a MPS division!!!!

Missing some of the FPO and FPM from previous years. Where are you ladies? We add money to your payouts!!!!

Sponsorships. Well...thanks to many, many, many sponsorhsips, we are kicking BUTT this year. Up to $11,000!!! Zak Walker & 4handz gave $30. Dwight House, once again, came through with $100. Jim and Larry Halvorson gave $200!!!! John & Dodie Ricker found $30 in their pocket for us, and continue to bug their friends and businesses for sponsorships!! Because of the Rickers, Collision Authority donated $150 and SMSMediSpa donated $30. (Maybe SMSMediSpa can set up a massage booth during the tournament and charge us a reasonable hourly rate...)

Payouts - I am going to do 50% payouts, which means big money for the winners!!!

Might even buy a few kegs for WHEN YOU ARE DONE PLAYING.

Sheri-

There are a few decent breweries in town but The Hofbrauhaus is very conveniently located across from The Hard Rock Hotel. Their only other restaurant is located in Munich. They are one of the official Oktoberfest breweries and they do their best to create the same Bavarian atmosphere. Worth a try if you haven't already.

CRUISER
Feb 05 2008, 01:28 AM
There is also a brewery close to the park called Barley's. It is a small local casino that has some pretty good stouts sometimes. They are right down the road from the park and you can get growlers to go w/ 4.99 refills for your room. I think their special right now is a chocolate stout but it probably won't last until the tourney. I am hoping they bring back their Russian Imperial after this batch; you can stand a fork up in it and skip dinner. We can only hope..

Sheri- RE: Buffalo

I did the "Tequila" dance with Earl the beer man during a Sabres game at the old Aud in the 80's. I was talking to him when the song came on and I had no idea it was an arena-wide event. It was quite a freak out. Otherwise, I prefer DUFFS!

sherijazembak
Feb 05 2008, 12:16 PM
Thats funny- Earl is still doing his little dance at bison (baseball) games. I think only on special occasions. He is getting kinda "well danced" as they say. They are tearing down the old aud. In Vegas they tear crap down every 25 years and rebuild. In Buffalo to tear something down you need a note from the pope.

Feb 05 2008, 08:17 PM
Thanks for the Earl / Aud info, so cool.

Meanwhile, thanks Cruiser for the breakfast beer tip. I just happened to pass by this morning and the stout was all that. The food was good too and the place is a fully functioning casino, owned by Stations Casinos. Not bad at all. The Hefeweizen cannot compare to Hofbrauhaus though.

Entries updated. 164 players. Have room for about 30 or more players. If Pros don't start to sign up soon, I will open it back up to the Ams. I have turned away at least 10 Intermediate, so get your entries in now Pros!!!

Minor course changes for Saturday and Sunday. We are NOT combining holes 19 and 20 for Saturday and Sunday's rounds. Interfers with hole 22/23 too much. Revised course maps will be posted soon on lvdiscgolf.com.

More sponsors...$100 from Dr. Kenneth Cox. Local dentist across the street from Hole #17 at Sunset Park. For you traveling pros, give them a call and see what they can do for you for walk-ins or your insurance. Phone number is 702-735-3506. Mention you are in the GCC disc golf tournament. Also, $30 from Jimmy & Em Daughenbaugh. They are both BACK playing disc golf! Around $11,500 or so now. HOLLY COW BATMAN!!

We will be having a silent auction. If you want to donate a disc or package or something from your home course, please feel free to donate. All proceeds go back into the GCC.

This is a A-Tier event. YOU MUST BE A PDGA MEMBER before you tee. If you are not a member on the PDGA website when I check the Wednesday or Thursday night before the event, THEN YOU WILL BE SIGNING UP WITH ME OR NOT PLAYING. This is a PDGA rule. No ifs, and, or buts!!!

P.S. According to my themometer in the backyard as I was doing yardwork, only 72 degrees today.

Buses do run down Tropicana and then a transfer on Eastern. Or bus down Las Vegas Blvd and transfer on Sunset. (Go to www.rtcsouthernnevada.com (http://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com) for local bus routes.) But, might want to just take a cab. Shouldn't be that much from Tropicana (I'd guess less than $20).

More sponsorhsips. Doug Emery gave $45. I also think I can generate at least $250 from the silent auction. So, we are up to over $11,800 in sponsorships!!!

InnColor discs are in...and they are sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! I only got 50. 20 are sold already, so only 30 left. They are $30 each...until I have less than 10 left...then they are likely $35 each. If you have sponsored $50 or more, and want one, I WILL HOLD YOU ONE. Just let me know.

I will also have 15 or so of the Star Ontario Rocs, mostly with a swirl color. They are $20 each...until I only have 5 left, then maybe up to $25 each. (Supply and demand baby...supply and demand.)

last year the AM fields were larger. That may be some of the reason (39advanced & 26 intermediate + 3 rec). This year Advanced 33 & intermediate 23. That is a 12 player difference right there.

Got a $100 sponsor from Mark Galloway and $60 from Johnny "J-Bo" Cuthbert. Thanks Guys!!!!

Also, getting LOTS of items for the Silent Auction. (Thanks Sticky-Iky!!!) I think I can generate around $400 from the silent auction. Therefore, we are around $12,100 in sponsors!!!! Holly crap!!!

We are adding about $1,300 to the Am payouts, and this doesn't include the CTP and trophy costs. That is AT LEAST a 130% payout.

We are adding around $8,500 to the Pros, and around a 200% payout. (You are a fool for not playing this event!!!) About $400 added to MPG. About $150 added to MPS. About $2,000 added to MPM. About $500 added to FPO. And about $6,000 or more added to MPO. These numbers will change with final sign ups and sponsorships.

This video was submitted to DGTV before the new year but has not been on their agenda. I edited it to be DGTV specific and have uploaded the same exact version for display here. This clip comes from the upcoming DVD of the Las Vegas Halloween Classic 2007 and is one of the best covered holes from that event. My narration is not very good but it was the first time I did a voice-over that I could live with. I think it has some value here and so I am willing to share it as is. I will donate approximately 50 DVDs to The LVDGC (media provided by John Ricker) for sale during the GCC at a very resonable price.

The official premature weather report predicts sunny weather in the mid 60s.

Also, to any visitors using taxi cabs for transport. Getting to the park will be easy, especially from places with cab lines outside. The return trip will not be so easy. You may not hail a cab on the street here, as is common in some other cities. If you call a cab company, it usually takes a considerable amount of time for them to arrive and that can be a gamble during a busy weekend. I recall one time that a friend needed a cab, the dispatcher called back 90 minutes after we called to ask if we still wanted the pickup! If you MUST take a cab FROM the park, try to arrange a pickup from the driver who brought you to the park or ask him for help with your pickup if his shift will be over when you are ready to go. When I need a cab I call one of several drivers on their personal cell phones. Considering the driver may be apprehensive about meeting you in a park, having the pickup arranged at the tavern across the street (Nikki Lee's) could be wise. Your next best bet would be to ask the bartender for help and then sit down for a few! Good luck!

Yeah we are getting in Wed. night and plan on going out that night since Thurs. is a better day to be rusty than the other 3.
We were saying we need to get in a round w/ you to know the locals perspective, and have you show the way to the promised land.

I played too much this weekend and I feel like I've been hit by a truck...not sure what's worse.

By the way Jeff, did you win a caddie at the Memorial? I shot so bad I didn't even check the other scores.

I'm just saving it for this weekend. ;)

Can't wait Jeff, this is going to be the best yet. The people that didn't make it are going to be sorry when they see those payouts. You've done one he|| of a job.

Caddie books have been posted on lvdiscgolf.com. There is a black & white version and a color version. Black & white versions will be provided to you in your players packages. Print even pages first, then flip in your printer (in most cases), then print odd pages. Caddie books include DRAFT payouts.

Tee times will likely be posted tonight.

Entry list updated. I can fit in 2 more MM1, 1 more FPO, and only a handful of MPM, MPO, MPG. Therefore, if you have not signed up yet and your name is not on the listed posted at PDGA, I may not have room for you.

No formal doubles...at this time.

P.S. Thanks for the kudos, but the thanks goes to many, many, many people who are helping out...including lots of out-of-towners who have donated money or given up items for the silent auction!!!
