I see Dave Gentry has finally posted the 08 schedule.
Isn't it a little late in the year to present NEXT year's schedule?

Steve,

According to the PDGA office process schedule, the 2008 Majors and NT calendar was scheduled for release on October 15th. Due to a few last minute requests for changes by a few of the NT TD's, the schedule was not finalized and released until Oct. 26th. The scheduling of these events is much more challenging than one might think. While early season events might be eager to set their dates earlier, the late season events usually are not because it is too early.

Considering that the first NT event is not until March, the release of the schedule in mid to late October gives members over four months advance notice.

Would we like to release the information earlier? Absolutely!

Brian Graham

Steve,

I have not met you nor do I know you. It gets very old reading this same bullcrap all the time. People seem to have all the answers on this message board. If you think you can get them out faster volunteer and run for a position with the PDGA. I'll vote for you.

Do you plan on playing a lot of events next year (you've playeed 3 in the past 2 years) or running an event that is so important you need to know the dates? If so, call the PDGA. Don't post this crap on here.

Yes measure someone by the number of pDGA
tourneys they compete in.
Judge them by their rating and pDGA number.
How about the size of their bag, how many CE discs?
As for running events and working with the pDGA,
I plan on TD'ing a C-Tier in March.
The schedule was one of my concerns.
I have spoken with Addie Isbell (paid membership staff)
numerous times and wish her well on the Unity Summit in March.

As far as running for a pDGA position, last board election is
not the first nor the last time Steve Timm finished DFL.

Pardon the tone of this reply.
I should just hit the delete button and move on.

Brian

Your replies and phone conversations are always professional.

It's funny how quickly and easily the finger points the other way when someone is called out negatively.

He has every right to gripe. A few years back it was told to everyone that the schedule was going to be done 6 months ahead of time. The schedule for Jan-Mar should be done. Alot of people pick vacation in early OCT. I do plan on planing alot of events next year. I played almost as many tournaments in Jan-Mar than you have the whole year.

cevalk, one man's crap is another man's burning desire to improve the sport. this is the Discussion Board, not the Judgement Board.

Well, it is late in the year. Brian even said it was a little late. Why is that negative?

... and has that post been posted before or is the honorable Mr. Comincioli lumping other "bullcrap" with this "bullcrap" to form a steaming heap of the "same old bullcrap."

Personally, I have always found Mr. Timm to be about constructive solutions, wanting to grow the sport and about one zillion volunteer hours a year. He also responds in a gentlemanly and professional manner to PMs ... an approach that involves much less dung on the face than erroneous, shotgun-style suicide attacks ... the shotgun being loaded, of course, with #10 bullcrap.

Perhaps the powers that be could look at a solution that would let tournaments appear on the '08 calendar up to nine months out. That way the '08 calendar would be a work in progress starting in the spring of '07 and filling in as tournaments were approved. The October 15th finalization date for Majors and NTs could stay in place since we obviously need a drop dead date for advertising, promotion, planning, etc.

It would provide a better service to the players trying to plan their touring schedules, though, to be able to pencil events in earlier than late October. Speaking personally, and not having tried this before, I was looking to plan my January through March events starting in July. I was surprised to find I couldn't.

The protocol for scheduling events is that Majors and NT events have priority and are scheduled first. Once that is accomplished, SuperTour events are scheduled, followed by B and C tier events. I agree that it would be very nice if we could have the schedule completed earlier in the year but please realize that it is much more complicated than you could ever imagine to put the schedule together. We rely heavily on tournament directors to confirm their dates and facilities and to submit that information to the office in a timely fashion. The bigger challenge is that when one event changes their date, it causes a domino effect that usually affects many other events. This process is repeated many times until we arrive at a schedule that accomodates the most people. I will admit that it is not a perfect system but in my opinion it works pretty darn well considering all of the challenges we face in putting the schedule together.

YAWN!

Lets hold the PDGA accountable for what TDs do. While I admit that it was foolish of the PDGA to promise to deliver something like this in a timely fashion, only a fool would think it would ever come in on time given the general nature of the sport and TDs.

As for planning your year around disc golf... As me da' said, get a life. :D(obligatory smile to show that I'm not really a git).
