San Diego has held on to the trophy the last few years...Redwood Empire was the last team other than the SD to win. I was the Captain then and we went 8-0..undefeated.

Last year the Bottom 2 teams were tied so they get to return...

In previous years...'05 it was Santa Barbara and in '04 - Vegas.

Vegas being out brought back La Mirada.....and Santa Barbara moving out brought in Oregon.

San Diego has a HUGE margin in wins overall.
Even though they have some outstanding players, the "local" advantage helps ALOT. ;)
They wouldn't stand a chance at ANY other Teams home course /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

This is my favorite event after USDGC and Wap Wap. Team match play is AWESOME!! Looking forward to the Auslander Invasion. DD

Since Teresa was overseas last year, I had to get a "Special Waver" to use you for the Team... :o
It was ONLY allowed because she was the ONLY Pro Women in the State :p (Shes actually from Washington, if you want to get technical, she just RUNS the Oregon Series...so, its OK)
MOST of the Team wanted to extend the spot to YOU again....when I told them that YOU did not want it, they DEMANDED (Not just Dave) that it go to a vote.... :p
Thankfully Teresa won that vote AND is on the Team.. :cool:

We are fast approaching that situation here in Santa Cruz. In a couple of years we could have some women competing with Burl in the SC tournaments and giving her a run for "the spot". Of course, Burl just keeps getting better also :).

I love how the area for some teams includes an entire state and for others it's one golf course. And since when is Oregon SOUTH west? No worries though, your going to be sent back north with your tail between your legs any way. :D;)

I'm just bummed I don't get to play against you and get revenge for my 1 point loss from last year. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief from that put you made on the last hole (8) to take the point.

It just makes sense to come up with a definition of area that applies to everyone the same. Our roster was posted the day after it was nailed down. YOU sir are insane...We played in the 7 spot...That means we either start on Hole 7 (Front) OR Hole 13 (Back). :p
We started OUR match on the BACK which also means our last hole was HOLE 6... :o

The picture you show is of the basket that is played as Hole F freom the top of the hill where all the trees fell in the wind storm.....BUT then you wouldnt know that because you were a ROOKIE :p

The ONLY way to play the hole you show is to make the Finals. That is the ONLY time we would throw from that Tee.

They played 5 matches but the results weren't in from the last matches when I left. I am pretty sure Team SD won against Santa Cruz in match 5, but I don't know the other results.

So what happened? Did SD win again? Which team took the Spirit Award? Anyone go undefeated?

San Diego went undefeated and won in the finals over Redwood Empire 6.5 to 5.5. Huntington Beach won the Spirit award for alerting tournament central of a scoring error that would have benefited them. La Mesa would not have been eliminated from next year based on record...

Great fun this weekend, although the rain on Friday put things off kilter (no putting contest). It was a treat playing with Open players again...so smooth and powerful...thank God we were playing Morley!

Andrew Rich from Oregon cleaned my clock on Sunday and Bruce ?? from Redwood Empire absolutely destroyed the course during the finals, shooting ~ -16 with an ace on hole 19. Wow!!

SD holds it down like always. It was great fun to watch this tournament, it motivates me to make next year's team. Guess i'll have to play a few monthlies in Open. I may have lost my bet with Mike (Aces membership on me) but we did win the war.

Yep, Bruce Knisley Aced Hole 19th on Sunday - the Kool part was that it was also his Daughters 19th Birthday!

Wow, San Diego is unbeatable when healthy, at Morley.

Way to go SD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based on our early tests with ratings, you could probably add 20 points to every SD player for homeboy knowledge, making their team the odds on favorite based on adjusted ratings. :cool:

Fortunately, being a Morley local, I know that there is no ratings system for Morley field. Still, you can argue local advantage, but at the end of the day, you could see by the results that we weren't blowing everybody out. Even with the local advantage, we don't sport anyone in the top 10 (currently) in the world, whereas Oregon had two and a couple other teams had one. Give SD our props!

I just put up what they posted. Any errors found in my posting were errors made by the staff that did the scoring. Besides, 7-0 or 6-0-1, like Ben said, still undefeated.
By the way, Mary does the pictures on her own free will. Initally she wanted practice doing action shots, and when she liked doing it, I started keeping her aware of the local tournaments so she could get all the shots she wanted. I think my rating would need to go up another 100 points before it's time for a personal photographer, ironically enough. I think it's cool to have those galleries to look back at the tournaments we played.

BTW, enjoyed the rainy afternoon action that I was able to catch on Saturday. You could tell that fatigue was setting in for many players. Also, I agree with Chuck - the locals do get about a 20-point (2 stroke) homie advantage.

I didn't hear of anyone going unbeaten. Emily Hardy of Team SD was 6-0-1 going into the finals, but was defeated there. That's as close as I heard. The best record I heard was Mike Slonim's 7-1, only losing to Oregon's Lane Mason.

I second that! My record was 1-3-3 and I was in the 6 spot. Getting two wins in the 1 spot is awesome.

Thanks to everyone involved in this tournament. I had a great time and will work hard again this coming year to make it there again for my 3rd time. Hopefully we can do better than 3rd next year.

I want to give a special thanks to Gary, my traveling partner. He was a pleasure to play with and I was glad to see him do well. I guess I'm going to have to start throwing more forehand so I can learn more from his lines ;).

If they actually did combine La Ma and La Mesa it would be a good team...I think La Mesa deserves a shot to come back given they pulled out a win. If anything, send the 0-7 team packing, not the 1-6 team. I think there are teams on the waiting list, so I don't see it happening, but most of their losses were squeakers so it's not like they weren't competitive.

AZ has been there for 21 years.....I'm pretty sure we'll be back next year, but ya never know! La Mirada is more in a bad place than AZ. They kind of messed up Snapper by not getting a team together, and forcing Snap to get the other LM on short notice.
