So I got to play the course for the first time this weekend during the High School series that J Gary is running and I am blown away with how nice this park is. The 9 permanent holes are pretty **** good. , and the 9 temporary holes were very nice also. It would be really nice to get in touch with the park and the course designer to see if we can redesign this into an 18 hole course. I think it would be every bit as good as the rest of our courses that we have. And how great would it be to have another championship course only 10 minutes from Knob Hill.
I would love to see a hole after the original hole 8, that goes to the right and way down that mountain starting near the tee of 9!!! I don't know what we have to do to try and get the ball rolling on this, but with such great land, I think that 18 holes is a must out here to get people to the course. Right now it's hard to compete with Knob's 18 holes and concrete pads, but I think if it were 18, it would be a toss up as to which course to play.

I agree Chris. That park would definately benefit a full 18... I play the 9 a fair amount and then play backwards for some extra practice.
I think Jerry's configuration was pretty smokin'... unfortunately the dude in charge of that park was not too keen on the 9 that's there. Dan Fisher had to work his butt off to get what's there... but there's always hope.
Right down the road is Walter Panek... the place Ambridge is interested in turning into a disc golf course. With an 18 at Economy and a quick four minute drive you could be at the next 18 at Walter Panek and then stop at Rex's house for a beer and some custom glass. Oh yeah baby, Beaver County is looking good.

well, I think if we approach the park in the right way, we might be able to get the full 18??? And a beer sounds good, I'll take any good IPA.

Me on the tee of temporary hole 5......a 910' par 5 with the road OB on the left and the tall rough OB on the right. The OB becomes more of a factor on the approach to the green!

Rex Trimm snapped this image of me on original hole 4, my personal favorite hole on the original nine hole layout designed by Dan Fisher. For this weekend's Scholastic Series event (10/18), this hole will be renumbered and played as hole 18.

Is that your second shot on a pro par four?
Looks like it would be kind of a dinky (250 feet max, and downhill) par 3 otherwise.

Actually, I didn't play the hole.....we had finished flagging the temp holes and the foliage was so nice I asked Rex to get a picture of me since we were near that green. From the tee, one cannot see the sloped green or the basket. I'm not exactly sure what the stated par is on the tee sign....I consider this particular hole a par 3, but there are true par 4's elsewhere on the original layout as well as on the temporary nine (and for the record, I have previously thrown from that approximate location on my second shot.... )
The entire course looks like this folks.....it will be a beautiful weekend to play an 18-hole layout at Old Economy!

This Saturday (10/18) is the Scholastic Series Event #4 at Old Economy Park. Nine temporary baskets will be set up and the course will be reconfigured to offer players a challenging 18-hole layout. Registration for this two round tournament begins at 9:00 am. Plan to be there.....this 18-hole layout happens only once a year! The map posted above is the tournament layout for this weekend and players can now practice the course as the additional nine holes were marked today with orange survey flags. As stated previously, the original / permanent nine holes will be renumbered for Saturday's tournament:
Original Hole 1 will be played as Hole 4
Original Hole 2 will be played as Hole 8
Original Hole 3 will be played as Hole 9
Original Hole 4 will be played as Hole 18
Original Hole 5 will be played as Hole 10
Original Hole 6 will be played as Hole 11
Original Hole 7 will be played as Hole 12
Original Hole 8 will be played as Hole 13
Original Hole 9 will be played as Hole 14

If that's where your drive has landed, and with the slope down to the basket, I wonder if a roller off the tee would work here...catch the hill and maybe get it to trickle down there.

Jerry's Coyote shot went... in the target. Yeah, that's the ticket. It wasn't on the backside of that rough with a 50 foot putt.
And Jeff, you should come out and try a roller on that hole.
The course looks great. The flags are in and I'll be out early on Saturday setting up the temps.
Thanks Jerry.

I think I can manage Josh. So don't get yourself up too early on my account. I live about ten minutes from the course so I should be able to set it up pretty quick. Glad you're coming out Stella, you bringing any of the DL crew or the Pooles?
Corey Diab and Ted Juzsac are coming out early to help me out as well and get a look at the temp holes.
I really hope a fair amount of people come out for this. It only happens once a year and Jerry's layout is smokin'. He did a bang up job working with what the park has to offer.

good, thats what I wanted to hear. :D
and I will be flying solo. No Poole's, heck, after last weekend and the comments coming from Kurt's mouth we are lucky he's still playing at all. DS has the kids. that leaves me and me alone. maybe I'll be surprised and one of our "not-so-casual" casuals will show. Havent heard from anyone though.
Im excited. I havent even stepped foot on the property yet so it'll be a good day for me I'm sure. new holes are always awesome.

Course par is 58
Hole 5 is a par 5
Hole 12 is a par 4
Hole 17 is a par 4 (ground rules list this hole as 405'....should be 450')
Watch out for the OB (there's a little bit of OB to deal with on this course). :)

That was a good performance I thought. You said it was uninspired, but you put it to work brah. I thought KB shot an excellent first round. J GARY is the man again though by one stroke.
