Who's running this thing? We are getting tired of the phone calls asking about a date. All I know is Ben Poole is "supposed" to be organizing it and I'm sure Bryan James will be doing the payout with left over Mr. Jims plastic.
Ben, can you give us a date?????????

yep, 10/27
I think Ben will have more than 18 holes. Usually 21
Payout will be 100 percent for Pro's and better than retail for Am's with pick your own plastic.
There is little to no plastic left over from the Carrollton Open so I will have to order some stock plastic. I will be placing the order next week so tell me what you want from Innova.

Great! Same weekend as the OK Open.
yeah, it's a bummer... but I think these two are not really competitors. 2-day A-tier versus 1-day unsanctioned. Local McKinney players who also enjoy the occasional big-time event will be the only few who have to choose. Hopefully both events will be successful.

I know man, I know... I'm not happy about it either. Just trying to find the silver lining and hope that people will support the event. I've done all I can to try and get info about the tournament and get it out there for people, but it's not my event and there's nothing I can do but relay what I know and try to stay positive. If it helps at all, I think BTL will be bringing some flyers out to the mini this week. I will try to get some too if I can, but like I said... not my event :)

Hey guys, this is just a small for fun event. It is not PDGA nor a tournament run for profit. OK, so any disc sales money goes towards the Carrollton Open, but it really is not that much. Like last year, I donated a whole box of discs to a ring of fire.
This is a City of McKinney event. If you guys want to run a PDGA event with added money, contact Gary Duke and get a weekend.
I will not be disappointed if you are not able to show up, specially if you are in Tulsa.

Ron,
I think that Bryan meant by "I will not be disappointed" is that he understands that the attendance at McK by Tulsan will probably be greatly reduced because of the OK Open in T-Town that weekend. I certainly don't think that he meant it as a slam against the Tulsans!

It just stinks that we have to choose between the best tournament of the year and the Memorial tournament, you would think that he would have chosen a better date, let alone advertise it sooner. Why not try to build this tournament up and make it big?? I'm glad Ron is doing a "real tournament" for Alex! You go RON!

Im not trying to hate on anyone. God knows you do more for the game than me, but I'm just curious why disc sales go to the Carrollton Open and not the charity?
How will the funds be raised for that?

I agree that we should chill out with all the hate. It's obvious that this year's circumstances are less than optimal. Nothing we can point out or slam on someone is going to change that... let's see if we can focus on making the event as much of a success as we can. Lots of folks will be at the OO, but lots will be in McKinney as well. Hopefully the tournament can still honor Alex's memory and raise a little bit of money for the charity as well.
Mike - I'll try to regurgitate some info and answer your question (this is the info I got from Ben): This tournament was started as a Memorial event, not a charity event. The donation made to the Clark family has been a nice bonus, but was never the focus of the event. Ben, Brian L, and the City of McKinney ran this tournament to help raise support for the sport in McKinney. In that respect I think it has succeeded. Bryan James has handled the payout to help alleviate some of the costs associated with running a decent-sized event, and the profits (what little there are) go into the Carrollton Open as a sponsorship in return. Bryan is notorious for giving away tons of plastic in CTP and RoF prizes, so I know he can't be making much. Mrs. Clark has historically and continues to support the format of the event and all parties involved are encouraging the local McKinney golfers to run more events. Ron is the obvious choice to head these up considering all he has done for the sport - especially in McKinney.
Personally, I have no stake in this event or anything surrounding it... I just love my McKinney golfing brothers and sisters and don't want to see something like this have a negative impact on the sport or on our group. I have good friends on all sides of the issue and I don't want to support one side more than the others, so I'm just trying to get as much info out there as possible. I know emotions are strong here and I can certainly appreciate why. I'm committed to sponsoring this event and have offered to help out if needed. I offer the same for the other upcoming events in McKinney. I'll probably even be donating my entry fee at tonight's mini :D.

Ron there is no problem between us, the weekend was worked out by Ben, I can only assume he worked it out with the City and the Clarks. This tournament has always been held against a larger 2 day tournament and even against another event in Cedar Hill one year. I do remember him saying it could not be earlier because of some other event in the park.
This tournament is also not a charity tournament. I didn't even know Ben had donated anything. This tournament was about honoring Alex Clark.
When this tournament was started several years ago, right after the course was expanded to 18 holes and the tee pads were added. Part of the deal was to run a memorial tournament every year. The City puts in for the Lunch and trophies, Ben, Brian and I usually put in for the Ring of Fire. The payout has typically been 100 percent plus more for the ams and we have let them pick there own plastic.
Please remember, the city contacted Ben about running the tournament. Ben asked me to do the payout with the incentive to have any disc sales be considered sponsorship of the Carrollton Open. But of course some of the profit from discs goes to pay for the Ring of Fire discs.
I have nothing to do with picking the weekend or running the event. I just show up Saturday morning and usually play the event.

Haleigh, I think you just got handed the wrong bag @ the MJCO. I talked to Bryan and he said that you should have gotten an $18 disc and a $2 mini to equal the $20 payout. the disc you got was an $11 disc... Bryan even said that he's willing to give you a credit towards whatever you want at the ACM to make up the difference between what you received and what you should have received.
Anyway, I will have online entry available on titleDISC.com for this tournament very soon. See you all at the ACM.

Are you sure you don't want to stock up on $20 pro-D cyclones?
If Josh had not sent me an message before I read this, I would have has NO idea what you were talking about.
To make a long answer to him short for you. There must have been either a mislabeled bag or were handed the wrong sack.
3rd and 4th place Int Women were both a disc and mini.
3rd place was a 18 disc and mini either an ESP or STAR plastic
4th place was a 9 disc and mini
As I already answered this in the message to Josh, I said I would make up the difference for the mistake no matter how it happened. If you are coming to the Alex Clark, you have a 9 dollar credit and can pick out a disc. I will even let you trade in the Pro D cyclone along with that 9 dollar credit for an 18 dollar disc, what you were suppose to get in the first place.
