EVERYONE is INVITED!!!! The Branchwood Open will be held at the Branchwood Golf Course in beautiful Bella Vista, AR on October 13th. This will be a one day, non-sanctioned event, 2 rounds of at least 20 holes.
The city of Bella Vista/POA are very interested in having a disc golf course(s) in Bella Vista. This is our opportunity to show them what kind of turnout a tournament can generate, and also a chance to play a disc golf tournament on a beautiful, manicured ball golf course.

I will have a flyer posted later today with more details. Entry fees will fall along the lines of $35-Open down to $15 - Rec/Enthusiast. $5 of each entry will go to "green fees". Everything else back into the payout$$$$.

I'm pretty sure nothing else is happening in the 4-states area this weekend, so please come out, support disc golf and help get yet another course to play in our area. If you need more information or would like to help out, please send me a PM or e-mail me at [email protected]

Peace through Plastic,
Heath

Is this the possible location for a permanent course or just a show of how many people will attend a tourney in the area?

Heath
Sep 26 2007, 04:49 PM
Yes, this is going forward with the intentions of making this a permanent course. The director of the facility walked the course with us Monday while we played. Her lifeguards have been asking for disc golf, and it will make a great added benefit for the summer camps they run. We have already talked about alternate tee locations to the same pin locations for the kids. A good turnout would be a bonus, escpecially if we want to get into one of their bigger courses, of which they have 8.

Could you imagine having 5 courses amonst there ball golf courses. There is so much land they could do it w/no problem. Then that many courses only creates revenue and really a DG mecca /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Check with Jose, Dave Wise, Coda, Wagle, Taylor , Winz, Treat, anyone? Please! I promise we won't tie any of you to trees, well unless you ask for it /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Gonna be a lot of fun. And we are getting some decent pub through the local papers Morning News disc golf article (http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/2007/10/03/news/100407bzdiscgolf.txt) and the Bella Vista paper gave us top billing in Sports with a 1/3 page article.

For those of you making the trip over. The Branchwood Neighborhood Association, our hospitality staff , will be sponsoring/providing breakfast for the players (Coffee, pastries, oranges, bananas, donuts). And we are working on providing lunch for all of the players or for a ridiculusly low price at the course.

And the course is looking sweet!

For those sitting on the fence about taking a trip over for the day, maybe a little sweetner will help you decide.

Lunch can be ordered at registration for $3. Subway , chips, cookie. Don't have to leave the course for lunch :D

Top 5 overall scores, 4-hole skins game. $200 sound OK? Maybe more, I've still got a day or two to try and gather a little more.

100% payout to all divisions (less $5/player for green fees)! CTP's for both rounds, all divisions

Some very, very cool Ring of Fire donations from all over, from some very generous individuals and clubs and corporate sponsors!

Not to mention the early AM treats the neighborhood associtation is providing for all of you

Maybe a DGA mini basket up for grabs for a small entry into maybe a CTP contest with champion weight mini's?

I've had three weeks to pull it together, maybe fun just to see if it all blows up in a cloud of plastic and Heath. Many of you have seen the crumble, how many have seen an implosion

Any of this sound worth making a trip over for? Oh, yeah and beer for you Winz! :D

Hook it up however you have to, to get here. Just get here! Plenty of press coverage will be coming, spectators were out today to watch the practice rounds(very unique experience, when even your shanks recieve cheers of excitement).

We finally got a chance to play the course to baskets and DAMMMMMMM! Course plays OK! Killing me that I won't be playing.

Good combination of most everything you can ask for. Good elevation change up and down, lefties and righties, short and long, tight and open. And for sure there is a bit of OB everywhere you look /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

And one good free piece of advice for all-- Laying up isn't a weak choice, sometimes it is the best choice. Usually the strongest are the only ones able/willing to make the choice.--BE STRONG - BE WILLING!

C-you all in the morning.

Peace through Plastic,
Heath

Well, blowup is a better term....but it was still fun.

I shot the hot round in advanced in the morning (53) then lost my sanity and shot HUGE the second round...

Still squeaked in for last place cash.

First to last baby! :( ;)

This is one of the best courses I have ever played, it is long with Waterworks looking elevation changes. The greens are large and the cart path is OB (and presents an added challenge most of the time)

All in all, if you missed this one, you missed out bigtime!

Thanks Fish and Mandy for letting me crash at their place...Java and Bourbon are good dogs!!!

All I have to say is that I LOVED IT!

My two friends that played their first tourney this weekend at Branchwood said the had a great time and they plan on playing more often.

Everyone involved needs to be thanked for putting on such a great event on such short notice. GOOD JOB ALL!

The course was fun. It is good if you can launch a disc a long long ways. I really hope this course will become a permanent course.

Heath
Oct 14 2007, 10:36 AM
To all of you guys from Tulsa that made the trip over--Thank You! Great play, gracious and understanding attitudes. Truly gentlemen in every way, regardless of the game we play!

Thank you all for coming out and playing, helping, supporting, not hollering at me I made some monumental mistakes and will learn from them. Payouts will be better, prizes will be bigger, things will run smoother. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. I can promise my 2nd tournament will be beter than this first one.

I believe we have made a huge step in the introduction of disc golf to a new area. It was not the quality of play or the quality of the course. It is from the example you as players set. Gentlemen and ladies is how you all conducted yourselves. It made a strong, positive impression on the residents, the staff of Branchwood and on the board members of Bella Vista that came out. I hope that I thanked you all in person, if not I WILL.

I owe a huge Thank You to Colin. Were it not for him and his laptop, I'd still be sitting there trying to figure out everything. Thank You!

Jeff Ash and Kelly Watson coming to help during registration and throughout the day marshalling and shuffling people in and out from the course. Thank You!

Everyone stepped up to help bail me out of my own ineptitude to bring this event together.

There were far too many people involved with the course design for me to take credit, they were just gracious enough to let me stand out front (maybe smart, just in case it blew up). Fish, Randal, Kel-Dog. Thanks

Now it's time to return all these baskets to their rightful owners. Thanks again for letting me use them. Sure do look nice on my trailer though. Guess I just need to buy a course full of baskets to haul around and do this with. Any donations will be accepted

After getting baskets returned, we will get the scores and final placements up. If you thought this course was fun, make plans for next year. And just wait till you see what I have in mind for my next attempt at running an event.

Thanks,
Heath

Brad,
It was a pleasure playing w/you on the first round. I heard you were dropping putts like no tomorrow during the 2nd round. We told you that you could do it. Good job, sir. Yes I must say the course was one of the top 3 I played on this year. Picture perfect comes to mind, having to throw perfect or almost perfect shots to be in the fairway at 400 ft. for a 100-150 up shot. Front nine was phine! Anyway hats off to the man that made it happen, Heath. The volunteers, K-dog, Mr. Ash, Colin on the computer. Anybody I forgot my hats off! Mr. Ash there was no way I could walk to the top of that hill w/my calf out. You are a true gentleman giving up you cart seat. I was in awe, my friend. K-dog what else can I say, you shoulder is out or you would have been a warrrior out there also. Thanks for handling some of the details, meaning being there for Heath in time of need. Words of wisdom when it is your first tourny comes in big time handy. Peace my friend, see you and your other half soon. Colin, never talked to you but know, if you cannot play you are priceless behind the table and on the laptop. Peace. Heath, what a fun time. I will be back to play disc golf on ball golf courses. I was wonderful even though I had to leave for home at 5am sharp. I made it noneventful at 9:45am. You keep truckin forward. You have something going. See you and your other half soon also.

Peace from cool STL,
Ron
