Is this allowed? I understand the PGA tour allowing Mickelson at the US Open and Quigley at the Masters having pagers and phones when there wives were expecting but I recently noticed several players now recieving and making calls during PDGA tournaments on the course. Just curious what other members thought.

This should probably be under the rules section... That said a conversation on a phone (and other audible noises from said phone) should be treated like conversations (and other audible noises) on the course. i.e. the courtesy rules should apply.

From the 2007 PDGA Competition Manual:
"Section 3: Player Code of Conduct
3.1. General
A. All tournament players must abide by the information
given in the PDGA Competition Manual and the PDGA
Rules of Play. Any player in non-compliance may be
disqualified, or may not be allowed to participate in the
tournament at any time.
.....
D. Players are not permitted to have active cell phones or audible pagers on the course during any competitive
round."

Enforcement of this competition policy would be initially up to the playing partners of the offending player, under the courtesy rules. I would think that if a player had a compelling reason (expectant spouse, family member with medical emergency) that the TD might allow a phone to be carried, set to "silent" with the player checking regularly for incoming calls, and excusing himself from the group to return a call. Constant chatter, for whatever reason, that distracts other players would be grounds for warning, and subsequent penalty.

I had this happen to me last year in a tournament. I was able to make it through the weekend and ended up playing in the final 9. We had accumulated a small gallery of about eight or nine people following us around the course. I made it to my second to last hole, whille during my putt to finish the hole out a cell phone went off in the crowd. It totally threw me off and I missed my putt. What really made me mad about the whole situation, it was the Tourament Director! If anybody should know better? What are you supposed to do about that. I can't stroke the T.D. and he can't be disquallified from the tournament, so what do you do?
