I knew one day my memory would fail me.
What year did the Champion Edition stuff come out? The real CE stuff, not that stuff we see today.
Seems i have a 1999 1st run blue CE Valk from National Doubles, Round Rock, TX. I also have a tie dyed CE VALK from the USDGC.
I'm thinking 1999 is the answer but i'd like some verification and input from others.

I was thinking the same thing, or maybe 2000. I think it started showing up around late '99.

The first runs where made late 2000, but there maybe ben some test-runs/protos showing up earlier. Check them out in our discdatabase.

Thanks Kjell. Great disc database!
...and i stand corrected, that 1st run CE Valk is from the 2001 National Doubles event which was held in Mid-March. Team Evil took 11th that year.

When you say clear, do you mean completely clear (like glass)? I have a CE Teebird that is the regular Teebird mold (not L mold) and is kinda off-white opaque, but a little bit see-through. Any idea what run it might be?

I have two of these Teebirds and they are ice clear very sweet just like the 2001 clear Roc. I think your teebird is from the 4 run.

I heard that the first CE disc ever made was a Gazelle, and that only a few protos were made of them.

The Gazelle was #2 CE made then the Valk both had the star stamp. One is on Ebay wright now at $510. and its not the rare one.

The first CE disc was not actually Champion Edition plastic but a new formula of the Special Edition plastic . Dave produced about 50 overall of which maybe 25-30 turned out good enough to sell. He sold them at Worlds. They were clear Teebirds with the Special Edition Teebird stamp.
And yes they are still around. :D
BTW MyHero the USDGC CE Valkyrie you have was from the 01 USDGC. They were part of the players package along with the purple Z-Cyclones. Most of the CE Valks from the tournament were 2nd runs with a few 3rd runs thrown in. There were extras made that Mace was selling in the pro shop for $15. He was also selling 01 CE ROC x-outs for $20. hindsight

I have seen a gold 2000 Masters Cup CE Aviar. It had a blue mini stamp on it. I was told there were very few and on the hush-hush even at the tourney. That tourney has always been in May, which would mean it was before worlds. I am no expert on CE , but I think it may be the true first CE disc.I felt the disc with my own two hands it was CE not special edition.
Im not confusing it with the '01s. I have one of those goldies on the wall. Its for sale by the way... :D

The CE Aviar came well after the SE Teebird in the new formula. This is straight from Dave. The first 3 were the SE Teebird, then the CE Gazelle followed by the CE Valk.
And for those that like pictures this is one of the proto CE Gazelles. It's clear with a Disclanding ghost stamp. We were lucky in that a partner of DL happened to work for Innova. There were 4 produced with this stamp.

This picture might create a bit of contrversy due to the fact that so many folks make money off of selling what they term as "1st run blueberry CE Valks". Truth be told there were only around 200 ever produced. And almost all of those 200 had custom stamps. But due to the hype it seems as though every blue CE Valk on ebay is listed as a 1st run blueberry. The color in the picture is almost identical to the actual disc. Plus it has the telltale VK outside of the small production circle, one sign of a true 1st run. And you can see the original sticker on the back that states "Zonedriven 1st run CE Valkyrie.

Most of the blueberries were lighter weight and a much richer and more transparent blueberry color. The one shown above does look like the blueberry fruit, but was only seen in heavy weight blueberries.

I've got one with the production stamp, 171 gms and has the VK writing just outside the production circle. One of about 4 total that were in the box of all dark red discs when CE first came to one of our area resellers. Also bought (all red) a firebird, teebird and another valk out of the same box, all of which I traded away, gave away or sold quite awhile ago. I've always held on to the blue one for some reason. But it is very slick and hard to throw, especially in winter, so it didn't stay in my bag long.

So this disc is famous just because of its rarity of number?
These don't actually throw that well?

I wouldn't make that conclusion. Grip is a personal preference. I also find a lot of Champion to be too slick and prefer Pro because of it, especially in winter. Positive traits of these were numerous, including that the first CE discs were about the most durable I've ever dealt with.
They were durable, but I remember some of the CE stuff would splinter on the edge for no good reason, like it just hit some grass. Did that just happen to me and my friends discs or did some of you have that also?

Looking for some corroboration...
My 1st run Valk is a Teal and very opaque. The pen-point impressions of the wt (168g) and the VK are inside the circle. I won it at a local mini in KC late April '01 and chose it from the stacks that TD Rick Rothstein provided.
I went back to DG World a shortime later (1-2 months?) to get some more and wound up with some EXTREMELY overstable & flat versions (2nd runs). How rare is this Teal one?
EDIT: The above Valk is very used and very flippy...a great roller but a color that would likely be hard to find in the schule.
I'm aiming to sell off a lot of my CE plastic (all used - Valks, Firebird F, FX, Eagle, Leopard 163g)...where/how can I find reasonable values as I would of course want top-dollar?
