A true attitude of a NO voter.
Hey I'm big enough to make a deal with you. Look at these guy's sample ballot http://notulsarivertax.com/index_files/Ritze.htm
on tuesday if the actual ballot states that the money generated by the additional tax will go toward the river development ONLY then I will vote YES...if you will vote NO in the event that it states anything resembling their sample ballot. Sounds like a fair deal to me...after all, the additional tax is supposed to be for the river development. DEAL???????? ;)

Well against my better judgement I was going to vote yes; if the sample ballot had been a lie, regarding the second paragraph that allowed the county to spend the money anywhere they deemed needed should the river plan stall or run afoul of the environmental impact study.
BUT
The sample ballot was accurate and that clause was attached to the measure. Since I do not see a need to vote the county a larger licence to steal (after all we have seen the county commissioner scandals in Oklahoma in the past) I did vote NO.
It gave and gives me no pleasure at all and if they come back with a plan that is fully developed, spelled out, itemized and locked down with no wiggle clauses and or escape hatches I will strongly consider a yes vote.
I agree that the river could become an asset to this town provided that men and women of vision apply their focus and plan and then nail down exactly what, when, where, and how much then write the tax measure to those specifications.
Even our street bond issues that we vote for spell out what streets and what will be done. We should expect nothing less for any measure that we vote on.
The County Commissioners knew better than what they gave us this time because the "Four to Fix the County" tax did spell out every item that was to be taken care of and they are being held to that, it was not so with the river tax proposal.
You and I do not buy vapor ware for our computers and game systems so Why should we should do so with our tax measures?
Thank you all for the insightful and heated debate that has been brought about by this issue. Please for the sake of Tulsa and river development organize and itemize YOUR plans and get them to the movers and shakers and lets get a REAL and SOLID proposal with REAL and CONCRETE projects organized and put before the voters, maybe next year in time for the presidential election ballot.

Wow!...What a surprise. I wonder why I ever got compassionate about this issue in the first place. Im normally non political and I had my doubts that this would pass based on my past experiences of living in Tulsa all my life. I remember in the old days when ever a vote like liquor by the drink, the lottery, or horse racing would fail I could always blame it on the Baptists. Then I remember all the teachers and their big march on the state capital for more money. Now that the lotto has passed theyre still complaining about not getting enough love.
The last couple of weeks Ive heard the following reasons to vote no.
John Greens conspiracy theory about all the illegal aliens that were going to come in and steal all the work on this project from true Americans. Hey buddy. Its going happen anyway. If you were sitting on the other side of the border you would probably do the same thing.
My 77 year old mother who looked at the whole thing like an episode of Survivor and thought by voting no she was voting someone off the island.
What about roads, police, and other needs?
Some people complaining about needs of a city that they may not even live in. Yeah they may work there but in the evening they go home to their peaceful little neighborhood in a town that is a travel destination for nobody unless there is an overpriced aquarium or Bass Pro Shop. Which by the way, thank you for those that voted for Vision 2025. 61st street is now four lanes all the way from Garnett to the Bass doorstep. Ive never been there but the value of my house increased considerably. Tulsa really blew it there. At one time I heard that Sapulpa was in the running but obviously Zooc planted enough of his conspiracy seeds there to make sure that nothing good ever comes to the Saps.
Chances are a vote to improve Tulsa roads would have only been decided on by Tulsa voters only. I say, make the roads into Tulsa from Owasso, Bixby, BA, Sapulpa, & Sand Springs toll roads and make the people sucking their existence off of Tulsa pay for their contributions to the failing roads. As far as the north side goes I say tax the bullets and the people using them. The good thing about life is once youve given up, there is always a life of crime and a willing population to support you in jail if you happen to get caught.
I think Doc is right.
Its all doom and gloom.
There is not enough "dino" juice in the ground to last forever. Those of you popping out kids and complaining about the price of gas need to get over it. Imagine the price if every country in the world was like us.
Live for today and screw tomorrow. :p
Lets not let anything get in the way or affect the price of our all you can eat food buffets. The fatter we get the more Twoputt can charge us for health care insurance. :)

AND IF YOU WANT I CAN TALK LOUDER!!!!
I live about 61st and Garnet. That is about as far northwest BA as you can get. Union school district with high property taxes to support a high school football that more often than not blows the big game against Jenks. Sales tax is higher in BA and I guess if I lived farther east I would be able to benefit from all the goodies that BA has to offer. I drive down Pearl Harbor expressway everyday to my job at Apache and Harvard packing a weapon in case I just happen to be wearing the wrong gang colors. I eat at all the best BBQ places and dump dead appliances on the side of the road when nobody is looking. I am responsible for teaching thousands on how to properly park their cars in their yards.
They are right. The roads over on the north side suck but due to all the shootings and drive bys going on the traffic is no-where near what it is in Owasso or BA. You can run red lights left and right over here and never get caught. The only thing is if you have a flat tire over here you keep on driving on it until youve gotten back over Admiral.
I dont have any more of a problem trashing BA then I do trashing Owasso except the only way to get Owasso behind anything is if you tack on some sweetheart incentive deal with American Airlines. :o

from the tulsa world...
The "No River Tax" campaign raised about $10,000 but did not create a political action committee until recently and did not advertise on radio or television.
Its public faces included Tulsa City Councilors Jack Henderson, Roscoe Turner and John Eagleton, an area mayor or two, and several state lawmakers.
The "Our River Yes" campaign -- with more than $1 million in its coffers -- hired several public relations firms, including one from Washington, D.C., to help get out its message.
i guess in this case money didn't buy enough votes. henderson and turner were very vocal, but the blame doesn't fall on north tulsa alone...

According to the web one quarter of a statute mile is 1,320 feet. if that is a requirement for visibility on a disc golf course then we had better close down all of our courses because i doubt that any have clear visibility for that distance. we have a lot of holes in town that have less than 200 feet visibility. If the concern is hitting bystanders then we still have lots of holes besides riverside that bring picnic tables and pecan gatherers into play. The overriding issue is intelligent play and courtesy remember the overriding rule for both types of Golf, if in doubt do not take the shot until clear. There are always thoughtless people who will hit into a crowd, throw into a crowd or go hunting and shoot blindly without thought of where the shot will land or who or what it might hit. Our concern as members of a recognized sports body is to not be those other guys.

Yeah....I bet your wife and kids are celebrating the no River Tax every night when they go to bed and scrape the frost off of their pillows. If Jeremiah Johnson can do it, you should have no problem. You should trade your vehicle in for a covered wagon and you'd fit right in with the early pioneers. ;)
Don't worry. I doubt whether any of us will get to vote on the rate hike that PSO is going to ask for to pay for all of this. ;)
I'm all for it.

PSO should bill everyone less since there was no power being sent anywhere. The less amount of power used the less your bill should be, right? I DOUBT IT!! I heard the out of town power guys are getting paid FAT! I'm sure PSO will bill all of us peons their overtime pay.

OG&E is still billing us in Fort Smith a "recovery fee" for an Ice storm from 6 or 7 years ago :p

****! I can already see my bill going up, there were so many power crews in town the cost had to be HUGE!! A power team from Dexter, MI was responsible for fixing my grid. The only way those guys will drive this far south is if the money was right.
Also, I talked to one of the maintenance guys at a local golf course and he said there are out of town tree trimmers getting all kinds of work right now.

Now would be a great time to have a truck, chainsaw, etc. and some time.
Christmas money to be had for sure!
hey what is this declaration of a national disaster from the feds suposed to do? they say it is to substidize the costs envolved but my guess is it will line a few pockets(federal funds)and then the consumer gets stuck with higer bills for an untold length of time with no real accounting of colections or expenses.
