Details were being finalized last night and flyer should be posted soon. This is a crosstown tournament utilizing 2 vastly different courses, where players of different skills can gain or lose ground as they move from course to course.

Owens Field will be a bit tamer this year. Construction of a high school track facility has eliminated holes 17 & 18, and 2 temporary holes, shorter than the lost holes, will be played in their place. A larger-scale re-design is anticipated after the tournament, so this will probably be the last chance to play some of the Owens Field holes during organized competition.

Though this event does not usually fill in the way our other tournaments do, and registration will be accepted on the morning of the event, we do appreciate everyone who can, pre-registering. It will lighten the staff's load on Saturday morning and help us ensure a timely start.

Word is that intermediates and advanced grandmasters will play the long tees at Owens Field this year, while juniors & rec players will play the shorts. I know some of the intermediates and grandmasters were disappointed playing shorter tees last year, so this change should remedy that.

Team Chuck will be there! Pre-reg on the way.

Thanks and good luck.

Plans are being made for better weather for Owens Field this year, now that everyone's socks are about dry. No guarantees, of course, but the odds are in our favor.

The State Fair will be in town as well. This will offer an added diversion for anyone who's interested. For everyone else, keep in mind the traffic and route yourself away from the corner of Rosewood & Assembly, particularly if you're passing through late Friday for doubles or a practice round at Owens.

when will the new holes be playable?

As I understand it, the baskets are in. I'm not sure the tees are marked.

Dave Cannon has posted a revised course map on the website ( www.columbiadiscgolfclub.com (http://www.columbiadiscgolfclub.com) ), which will aid in finding them. The sequence will be to play, in order, numbers 10 - 17 - 18 - 11; that is, #17 & #18 are inserted between holes #10 & #11. It will appear this way on the scorecards as well. This is because the numbers are still on the baskets, and this is presumed to be a temporary layout.

I think these holes are the same as 2 years ago (I think), when we played two temporary holes because of construction flooding on #3 & #4, for those who remember.

All information here unofficial, as I attended last night's meeting but will not be at the tournament, so am not paying the best attention to the planning. But I'm on the message board. When in doubt about anything important, please call the TD to verify.

Dave Cannon confirmed last night that new holes are ready and tees are marked.

Also, though I was working elsewhere in the park, I understand that the tee for #16 has been returned to its original position. A large tree had fallen, forcing us to tee off from a shorter location.

At last look, construction had cleared the creek on #12 but left two large dirt mounds. Presumably they'll be gone by tournament time but, if not, they'll just provide some extra hazards for anyone who thought this hole was too easy.

Meanwhile, Earlewood should be the same familiar course as at previous events.

Welcome back. Is this a return to the circuit, or a cameo appearance?

Forecast this weekend is for highs in the low 80s and "abundant sunshine" in the words of one of our local weather forecasters.

Weather's fine right now but we're supposed to have pretty good storms this afternoon. On the other hand, some of us don't believe it will ever rain, again, ever.

This tournament has not filled in the past 4 or 5 years. The last 3 years attendance has been in the low-mid 50s. That said, there are 42 pre-registered, which is ahead of previous years (there's usually at least 20 registering on the morning of).

Make the drive---you'll almost certainly get in, but just to hedge, you might want to arrive early. It will also help the TD if the day-of registrants register as much in advance of the player meeting as possible, so the meeting can start on time.

As long as you're not showing up 2 minutes before players meeting, it's not that big a deal.

Word is that Owens field should be in fine condition. Ed Garris has put in a ton of work in the past few weeks and a large crew of volunteers, sans me, was there last Saturday sprucing it up. If you play and find this to be true, please remember to thank Ed & Dave Cannon and anyone else who contributed.

It appears this tournament will have a higher attendance than in the last 3 or 4 years. This is unofficial, since I'm not the TD or handling registration or the online register list. But as treasurer, based on the registration checks I've already deposited, we seem to be well ahead of last year.

Good news for those looking for bigger fields, and a reminder to those registering tomorrow morning to do so early.
