Saturday: Two rounds of singles.
Sunday: One round of doubles(bring your own partner) followed by skins for those who qualify.
This will be the first PDGA tournament held here. Should be a lot of fun.
If you aren't entered yet, it will cost you an extra $20 for late fees. Ouch, babe!

Hey Kenny,
Just played the two courses today for the first time. I think some guys (not me) will be shooting very hot rounds on Saturday. Lots of deuce holes on both courses.
See you in the AM!
Cheers,

Nor Cal and So Cal take turns awarding the California USDGC spot.
This year it was to go to Robert McIntee from So Cal.

I thought that NorCal and SoCal each had their own spot to award since they are two distinct "states" according to the PDGA.
"PDGA State and National Coordinators may select one competitor to represent their state or country in the 2007 Championship." - http://usdgc.com/rules-for-qualifying/
Is the "taking turns" process documented somewhere?

The USDGC awards only one spot to California.
Perhaps you should petition Harold and Jonathan to allow California to have two spots.
Until then, NorCal and SoCal will continue to take turns. It is not documented, it has just been the "fair" way to handle the situation between our two State Co-coordinators.

North & South have traded choices each year since it started.
I was told that SOCal DIDNT get the name in on time.....niether did Oregon...
Are you saying, Discette, that Robert IS in..???
I know that Oregon (Feldberg) was 1 or 2 days late turning in the name & was told "SORRY" try to qualify on Monday.
I was told that Cali didnt get the name in on time either..
Bummer for Tyler Christiansen....BUT I believe that Feldberg is PAYING for him to go & Monday Qualify... /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Hmmm... I like that idea, two coordinators = two USDGC spots!
Whoa, Feldberg and Cale qualifying on monday? That really makes it tough to fly across the country and try to qualify. Maybe next year! ;)

NO......Feldberg is the Oregon Coordinator...He is the one who designates the USDGC spot BUT didnt submit the name on time...Aug 1st...SO he is paying for TYLER CHRISTIANSEN to go and attempt to Monday Qualify... :D

The reason Monday qualifying has become SO TOUGH is that A LOT of the PLAYERS dont ever read the rules.
They DONT KNOW that they have 30 days to register AFTER they qualify AND that they are NOT eligible for ANY OTHER SPOT after that point.
SO that means that they NOW have to MONDAY Qualify.... :o
Sure makes it hard on all those who cant get in any other way....... :D

Yeah, and I think they should not be elegible for a monday spot either; they had their chance, and they blew it! Tough! Ok, maybe I am a little bitter because I missed it by one stroke at The Masters Cup. DOH!

I lost the spot in a similar manner a few years ago to Ray Johnson... :o

Perhaps in the next year or two we should create a qualifying tournament and give players a chance to compete for it.
This could be an invitational tournament with each half of the state sending their best 36 players who are not otherwise eligible.

When I was the coordinator AND it was our year to choose....
I used the Stafford Lake Open as the qualifier. There was a $20 side pool and the funds raised were used to pay the entry & expenses.
I only had 1 year that this was done BUT Ray Johnson took it down....12 people paid up so $240 was raised...Entry was $225 so I handed him a $15 and sent him to USDGC.. :D
I did advertise to SoCal AND this was OPEN to ALL CALIFORNIANS there were not previously qualified.

Now your talking!!! We could even "USDGC" the course up a little. Make it have lots of OB and hazards so that it will be a comparable test. Even if we kept North/South alternating years we could do that in Norcal. It seems like it should be more transparent to those looking to get the spot. Last couple years I didn't hear anything about it.

NorCal gets it in the EVEN years........the key is having the spot determined PRIOR to the deadline of Aug 1st :D
Thats why using Series points doesnt work... ;)

Just be nice when you submit your/mike's idea to the new NorCal Coordinator: Mrs. K.

Nice post. Where exactly are these courses in Oroville? I grew up in the great town of Gridley...ha ha. When I came out a few years back, I played at a course there in Oroville on the river, are the courses there? Nice turn out for the tourney.

Kenny, I would of course, be nice, but I am just kind of spouting off ideas here. I know it is the coordinators choice anyway, and I have great respect for anyone willing to volunteer time for our sport. I wouldn't want to make their job any harder. But wait... do I have a mean guy reputation I don't know about?

She'll probably just give the spot to her husband!
