I heard somw scuttlebut on another thread about Texas Teams. Does Live Oak have a team? What do I have to do to get on the Live Oak team as an Intermediate?

Of course as the rookie I'm comfortable with carrying the bags, buying the beer, and being the brunt of your jokes. :D

I believe any course can organize a team. Live Oak, Universal City, Nani Falcone, McClain, Lackland, Etc;. I think the teams are divided by established and new course, depending how long the course has been in the ground. They have different player divisions (Open, ADV, Int). You can even start your own team, they all need captains. I didn't get to play last year but definetely want in on one this year.

Emerging is not just based on how long a course has been in the ground, it is more about the overall skill level of that area. In past years, some established areas tried to slip in that way, and were shot down by Mr. Houck. Ask Round Rock and their desire to field a Rivery team last year. Many parts of the state don't have pros, ladies and such and that has more to do with it, as I recall.

Let's start a Brian McClain team. I'll volunteer to coordinate. So far we've got:
Scott - INT
Orlando - Pro

Didn't UC have an emerging team last year? I thought you could only be an emerging team once.

Just to be clear...............I'm always in for disc golf and I'd love to be on a team.

McClain Team - if Live Oak doesn't have a spot for me then I'm yours. I wasn't very clear when I told Bird.......yes......I meant that if LO didn't ask I'd be game for Team McClain. However, Laura has already been asked to be on LO team so, it's looking like McClain might be the spot for me to fill.

Sorry for the confusion!

Oh so now we're playing 2nd fiddle to the LO team. Just Kidding :D. That is what I gathered after talking to you this weekend. By the way NICE JOB ... AGAIN!!!!

We've got several questions about emerging and the "rules" governing the qualifications etc that was emailed to Houck earlier this week. I'll let you guys know what he says.

My thoughts, let's all just go and have FUN!

Based on their website:

"Every course in Texas is invited to send a team. Teams may also represent schools, ultimate teams, or other organizations. Some courses send more than one team."

Based on this any course or any organization can send a team. Just get 9 people or 6 people together, call it an organization and register.

Seems a little odd that you could "emerge" twice, but if Houck allows it then that's that.

It says on their webiste it is for newer courses or smaller towns. so if you are a small town you can always play emerging. There is one way around that ... just form a 9 person team :)

suemac
Aug 29 2007, 01:12 PM
That is a basic guideline that hasn't been updated in years.

It's not as basic as that. Many of us who've been participating for years still don't understand the criteria John uses for this division. The Rivery from Georgetown was denied emerging last year, and somehow, UC was blessed and approved.

In reality, I think the spirit Houck was trying to champion was skills and resources. The new course in Timbucktwo that doesn't have local pros or highly skilled Advanced players, those were the intended beneficiaries of emerging.

The course that is right down the road...and has a good size pool of skilled players...........I don't think that's what he trying to accomplish.

In Houston, we've always played established, no problem here, and the excuse about not having an am woman can be fixed as we have girls who can "fill-in" where needed.

We all know that UC and the local area fits into the established venue.

See, it was a fun event in the beginning, and then the COMPETITION NUTS tried to take the fun out of things with stacked teams. Jay & Des Reading on any team was a good example of that strategy.

Not everyone can field a seriously competitive team, but WE ALL CAN GO AND HAVE A FUN TIME.

See you all in November.

San Marcos pretty much brought the same emerging team 4 years in a row. We took last place the first two years and then 2nd and finally won the emerging division. After winning emerging they were told they had to bring an established team the next year. In the spirit of competion our boys moved up to established, leaving a lot of guys still wanting to play, so I formed another established team a week before last years tournament. My point is, you can roll with a crew you've had for years, or you can slap something together in less than a week like I did and still end up beating your in-town rivals!! :D :D:eek:
Either way, like Susan said it's should be more about the fun and not the competition.

BTW- What's wrong with having Jay and Des, we'll take em'!!
