Its that time of year again. Time to start getting ready for the Third Down East Players Cup. This year we are going Hawaiian. Here is some information.

B Tier
Date: October 20-21, 2007
Place: West Meadowbrook Park Greenville, NC
Entry fees: $60 for all pro divisions, $45 for all advanced divisions, $30 for all intermediate divisions.
Format: Round 1 - Whites (alt)
Round 2 - Blues (alt)
Round 3 - Blues (regular)
Round 4 - Whites (regular)
This is the same format that we have used the last two years.
There will be 20 holes like last year and we will be using the same holes as last year.
Tee times will be 9 am both days. The reason for the change on Saturday from last year is because of a big football game in town that day. We have a lot of NC State and East Carolina fans that will be there and they want to make the kickoff.
We plan on having 80+ CTPs again and also plan on adding as much if not more cash as last year.
Players packages will be given to all participants and they will not come out of your entry. How nice is that pros?

More information will be posted soon. Please feel free to contac me or post any questions you may have. If you have not been to this event before, just ask someone who has and they will tell you how much fun it is.

More information...

There will be basket toss held on Sunday this year. The top 4 from Sunday will go against the top 4 from doubles. Anyone who makes the final 8 will win a prize. As we get more prize, we will announce them. Last year we gave away a DisCatcher Sport Portable, a pair of Mion Sandals, 2 Carolina Panther Tickets, 2 free 2007 DEPC entries and other goodies.

Also on Sunday there will be a cookout between rounds. The menu tentatively is type of marinated chicken breast sandwich done in a Hawaiian style with side dishes. prices and the rest of the menu will be announced as soon as Mrs Scotty decides.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event. If you would like to donate any merchandise for CTPs, please contact me. Hole sponsorships are $25 a hole and tree sponsorships are $10 a tree.

This event is also part of the Coastal Plains Point Series.

We will also have a nice merchandise store again this year so you ams will have a lot to pick through and you pros will have a chance to spend some of that hard earned money.

Aug 21 2007, 03:38 PM
And yes Rocky, there will be cookies in everyones players packages this year along with a bag of chips. But don't worry, there will be some other nice items in the players packages.

Also there will be a "Players Lounge" on hole 11 this year. This is due to the backups that occur on that hole on Saturday. We will provide more chairs and some other forms of entertainment while you wait.

Here is the info for Friday Random Draw Doubles

Cost will be $5 + optional ace and bag of bucks CTP hole(s) ($1 each)

We will start promptly @ 5:30 so we can finish with some daylight.

I will payout top 3 teams with 100% of monies paid in.

We will not play holes A & B due to time constraints.

Also, there are a few live music events happening that Friday/Saturday nights. Friday, a friend of mine will be performing in the Private room at HAM's. He is a DJ specializing in drum and bass, pretty sweet. Not sure what the other act is, I will update later.

You guys definitely want to get the entries in soon to make things easier on Scotty. We have done alot of course prep. that will make things smoother and more asthetic through 'the gauntlet'. And who knows what island supprises Mr. and Mrs. Scotty have for us this year. Can't wait to see ya'll in the meadow huk'n.

Some updates....
Lunch on Sunday will be the following:
marinated chicken sandwich, drink, chips and cookie for $5. Get some food at the course and sit back and watch the basket toss qualifying while you eat. The money raised from this helps go to cover tournament expenses.

Speaking of basket toss, everyone will receive a coupon in their players package for one free toss. We will take the 4 closest on Sunday and they will go into a final against the 4 closest from GVDG doubles. Everyone who makes the final 8 will receive a prize.

scottfaison
Oct 08 2007, 09:44 PM
Players package update:
As of now this is what will be in the players packages that everyone will receive:
1 disc (type to be announced once we finalize the details)
1 tournament t shirt
1 Star Mini Driver
1 Innova bottle opener
1 basket toss coupon
1 bag of chips
2 cookies (1 chocolate chip and 1 coconut/pineapple)
tournament program

scottfaison
Oct 08 2007, 09:49 PM
As usual there will be a group CTP the first round on hole 17. Whoever gets the closest in each group will win a prize. The prize this year is a 2006 USDGC Lead Card Live DVD.

And also like last year there will be CTP on each hole, each round.

Get those preregistrations in folks!

scottfaison
Oct 08 2007, 09:51 PM

One more thing before my dinner gets cold. We will have a lot of merchandise available to win and purchase this year. Innova was nice enough to work with us to allow us to offer you all the following:
disc (a wide selection of plastic types and molds)
hats
shirts
t shirts
visors
dvds
golf bags
minis
bottle openers
and other things....
Also, Zone Driven has allowed us to offer a limited number of 2006 US Championship Rocs.

We just received a contribution from FEIA for $500!. This means that the added cash for pros is up to $1000!.

scottfaison
Oct 10 2007, 09:01 PM
FEIA has also decided to sponsor the HazMat Challenge. On hole 10 the first round, an ace is worth $50. If no one aces, the money rolls over to the second round where it will be $100. Each round that goes by without an ace on hole 10 will add $50 (this means it can be worth $200 in the fourth round). If someone hits an ace on hole 10 in any round, the next round the hole will be worth $50 again. Who is going to pass the HazMat Challenge?

Andrea and i are bummed to report we can't come to the DEP this year. we've been pumped to come back all year long. and with her narrowly winning her division, we were eligible for the Champion's Dinner, which would've been awesome. however, my Dad is turning 60 and they have this big secret birthday party for him in Ohio. i hope he doesn't read these boards!

anyway, good luck to all the competitors and congratulations (in advance) for running another great DEP!

GVDG Course page - West Meadowbrook (http://www.gvdg.org/courses/meadowbrook.html)

At the bottom are two links to open different Excel files. One is for the regular 18 hole course, the other is for the 20 hole DEPC course. The only difference in the two are the two added holes. I hope that helps

Thanks to a lot of hard work from Wop, Myers, Vee, Lily, Stew and others.

Some updates...
The t shirts are in and they look great.
More sponsorship has come in for the pro purse.
More CTPS have been donated.
More work has been done on the course.
A ton of merchandise available.
The players packs are looking very nice.

In case you think you have an excuse to miss this event here are some arguments back....
I have played in a lot of events lately - but have you played in this one before? Mike Hofmann called it "the best b-tier in NC" (and he beat me last year so I believe him)
What about the money involved - that is why the entry fees are lower for this B tier. With the drought going on right now, are you really saving up for a rainy day?
I am tired of going to events and not getting anything - you players package is valued roughly at $40. Plus there are tons of prizes to win all weekend.
I am getting a little worn out on golf - this is disc golf therapy at its best. The course is not one that taxes the body too much and the walk is easy. The atmosphere is friendly but competitive.
I am scared of clowns - well I can't help you there but I don't think there are any clowns hiding at The Meadow.
It's a long drive for me - I am glad that Columbus did not have this attitude. Where is your spirit of adventure?
I am an NC State fan - well thats a problem you have to live with. But since I care about all of the players at this event, I will use small words and use drawing to explain stuff to you Wolfpack fans. heres the first lesson:
L is for Loss, and that is what you will get Saturday against ECU :)

Anymore reasons you can't come? I did not think so. I will look forward to seeing everyone at this event.

This post was made with 100% fun and sarcasm. The views of this poster do not reflect the opinions of the voices in his head.

Howdy folks!!!! I wanted to say Hello to all and clear up a few rumors.."LOL"...

First of all, I will be attending this weekend and looking foward to it. 2nd, I am still hurt... but I just can't help but want to stay in "Tiblets" way for the NC Points Series... this and "Bull City" will be my last events this year, then its another very painful shot in my elbow again, a rest period, then rehab with no play for 8 weeks..

the last couple of days have felt pretty good, did a little putting yesterday and today, the wear and tear over 4 rounds is completely different. its gonna be challenge I already know.
but I want that Trophy.. a few friends which I said I would not mention, said "the Trophy would lose its luster if MTL's name goes down on it". and to "please come back and play these last 2 events so he doesn't weaken the Integrity of it".. "to keep it in the family"..lol. I loved it!!!..
so I decided to make the trip. Nothing Personal Tizzle,
but if Sasquatch come back for it, then it would be well fought,
but still in elite hands and family. (being names on it)

but in Tizzle's defense, while I have been hurt he has been puttin some whoopins on me, alot of 1 stroke differences, or me slaying a hole, or me not knowing how to count my score..lol.
but never the less he's been on me since my injury, and loving it. I am not the same golfer right now that is for sure.
since I got hurt I hadn't averaged 1000 until the FDC's. I got hurt the week before The Pro Cross Town and struggled every since. I have tryed various treatments Steriod med packs and Cortizone shots. the last shot worked for about 4 weeks of play.
at the FDC's I felt it tweak in the 2n'd round, it got worse from there.. this injury SUX!!! I pity anyone who developes it..

So Sasquatch please bring nose plugs.. because I will be in
Tiger Balm all weekend.. so either play on the 2nd card
or hope I play poorly so you don't see or smell me...lol.

so I hope that settles some things.. I wish you all the best,
and that we all just get together for my last 2 events this year..
all of you are like family to me, so thanks "Big Wave Dave"
for the concern and support..I'll see ya there.. And "Jonvee"
I ain't tryin to hear no Carolina Panther [censored] Either!..lol.
or Patriots.. and States Beatin Dat ***** this weekend..I don't know how..lol. but there gonna win.

glad you are making it Chris, glad to hear the arm is doing better - I've played lots of golf with you this year and I know it has been a battle all year.

And to be honest, yes, I want that trophy. Who doesn't? It's an incredible honor. But the only thing I want more than that trophy is to earn it, and if you were injured and unable to play the last three events and that cost you the trophy, that wouldn't feel like I had earned it. So I am so glad you are playing this weekend and Bull City! Bottom line, in my book, earning 2nd is a lot better than being handed first.

Looking forward to another battle with you and everyone else this weekend!

Hey C Lee, welcome back. If MTL wins the point series, then that means he was the best for 2007. It has nothing to do with your ability to play or not, or if you were injured or not. It is a year long award, and it means he put in the miles, and play above all others (not only you). Let's keep it in the right perspective please. All issues aside. He woke up early, traveled, warmed up, practiced, and played, and set a pretty good example doing it. I think he deserves some respect.

very well said rocky...
ya know, to be honest i just dont get some of you people. rob sits here, does not say a word, but yet still gets provoked and bashed like crazy.. i pick on rob alot, but only because hes one of my best friends, and he does the same to me. he has done alot for me over the past couple of years and i think its time i come to his defense on this message board, even though its just a stupid message board. the reason im making this a big deal is because im really tired of seeing rob get bashed for no reason, when he has done nothing at all. some things he deserves to get bashed for, but we all do. to whomever sayed what chris lee posted, i really hope you're reading this, because I think that Rob deserves this trophy more than anyone in the state, and YES MORE THAN YOU CHRIS LEE. Rob does more for disc golf than most of us, yet he's criticized for everything else.. He has improved dramatically on his attitude during tournaments, and i think its only going to get better. This guy loves this sport more than any of us will ever love it. anyways, Rob, good luck this weekend, and good luck to everyone, you to Clee.

well..lol. ok then!

I wasn't bashing MTL first of all! second this ones for rock
you play with one leg and say its a fair match..lol. granted I am stupid enough to have palyed with the injury, but its not the same..3rd, I do agree with JJ he has made vast improvements especially in his game, but I am not ready to sleep with him thoe..lol. 4th who ever walks with the trophy deserves it.. 5th to MTL I know you have come on strong and played well this year,we have had our moments but as rocky said you did put in the time. and as "Jizzle" said he has done alot for the sport
not always good, but most of the time he trys really hard anyways..so you are a good defense attourney JJ..lol. MTL we still ain't close, but I know you can be a nice guy, or JJ wouldn't love you so much! I am still just waitin to see it..
no bad vibes here, I just don't wanna hear all the self centered
comments, or play by plays, when I can see it myself...
the last few events we have gotten along ok, he has only said like 7 or 8 words to me in 2 or 3 events. which is cool!!..lol.
I just try to get along with every one, even him. so I mean no bad vibes.. I like everybody... or I'll let ya know..

as for the Cowboys Loss, its alright, we will see them again.
and when we do, the song will be a different tune... we will take Tom "Bratty" out in the first quarter, and the super bowl will be history..Dallas 63 New England 10..lol. suck on them apples!!!!

OK Scottie, I was just noting that, MTL's performance warrents the trophy if he has more points, as the point system dictates. It does not warrant him getting a bigger cookie than I, as my point system NC Bagger Series dictates, and King Kamehameh (the Hawaiian Leader )would be proud. :cool:Scottie, it is in the rules that Rocky gets 1 cookie for every thumber he throws, pdga rule# 2,para4,line 3, I think.

I heard that one guy only needed a Coyote to shoot 43 from the whites and 49 from the blues but then again that guy is weird....

Since it is always hard to tell someone what disc to throw on a course due to our own personal games, I would think you might be ok. There are a lot of midrange holes. There are a good mix of hole types (open, wooded, left, right, long, short). If you are finding yourself short a disc I am sure you can borrow one from someone or even buy one.

Speaking of buying disc, does anyone need a Hydra?

holes I throw distance drivers on :

2 short - 350 staight, but I play the hyzer (uphill a tad)
2 long - 400 straight (most including me actually throw rolles b/c of OB left and a fence right that stops them)
7 long 375 S curve or straight to hyzer
13 long 400 - one pin is hyzer, one is anny
15 - lots of different pins and depending where they are

This is for those wondering about the holes, a run by (I will try and keep this short). These are from the view of a right hander throwing back hand.
1 189 slow flex 252 straight
2 351 and 400 open crush - back tee has some woods off the start
3 196 big turnover or thumber over the OB corner 263 more gently turnover
4 274 and 295 turnovers
5 259 straight 318 straight, slight hyzer at end, can be thrown many ways
6 235 one tee and multiple routes
7 218 straight or hyzer 370 stright/slight hyzer
A 205 multiple shots 315 slow turnover
8 134 multiple tight gaps 280 tight and straight, hyzer at end
9 134 hyzer 280 tight straight hyzer at end
10 150 dont miss the triple mando 194 easiest hole on the blue layout
11 210 straight or hyzer 287 straight
11 with alt pins 347 straight to reach green, hyzer to lay up 430 this is a par 4 long flex to even look at a 2
12 284 sky turnover 333 turnover but not as extreme
12 with alt 333 turnover 397 hard right at end
13 321 hyzer 421 hyzer
13 with alt 359 turnover 459 turnover
14 234 slight hyzer at end 300 slight hyzer at end
15 this hole has 4 pin placements, you will see all 4 of them this weekend. The first is a 314 and the fourth is a 287, both with straight or hyzer routes. The second and third round are par 4s. Third round is 611 and the third is 630(guess, cant remember and too dark to go to course right now). From the blue tee to the white tee is about 270.
16 235 tight straight 300 less tight with slight hyzer at end
17 186 with multiple routes 216 hyzer ( a lot of people play skip shots)
18 248 straight 281 hyzer
B 197 slight hyzer 291 slight flex

I hope this helps those who haven't seen the course pack their bags. If not I am sorry but I tried :)

wow, where do I begin...

how about some random comments

- Best B Tier in NC and possibly the best I've ever played
- This is how tournaments should be ran
- 39 people missed out on some amazing fun on a great fun fair course
- The course looked unreal. Everytime I play hole 8 I think back to the way it was just 3 years ago
- Getting 16 every round = good
- Going Even on 9 and -1 on 17 = bad

Thanks to PJ for putting me up and to all my fellow GVDG guys for an awesome experience and to the entire Faison family for sacrficing months and months of work so the rest of us could have fun.

WOW!!!!
Monny has, for the last two years been telling me how wonderful this tournament is and I believed him. But it was above and beyond my imagination.

Family atmosphere-DEPC, ALL of the Faisons, GVDG Club members all the golfers. Even bringing in the next generation with babies Holden and Rachel joining in on the excitement. With pets as well and even feral kittens being adopted. WOW!
Fun-DEPC
Accomodations-DEPC, THANKS Juan VEE!!
Competition-DEPC, congratulations to all of the winners. Way to get another one Schweb, with many more to come!
Great course, truly impressed-The work you guys have put in is amazing. It has it all, open, tight, anny/hyzer straight, thumbers, flicks, rollers.
Payout-DEPC # 1, players packs to Pro's, cookies/chips. Added cash.
Food, thank you Mrs Faison and all whom made the fixin's.
Scores-Norris and Stick you guys are incredible-thank you! Passing a printout of the scores/rating at the awards ceremony, are you kidding me!

;)This tournament was definetly on point, from the start which was mentioned at the last DEPC. Scottie mentioned feedback to make it the best B teir in NC. Can somebody tell me where there is a better B teir so I can get registered. What feedback can you give on perfection other than Kudos. To all my fellow TD's, the bar has now been set very high. GVDG club, you are the best, the entire PDGA should send someone out here to observe what you do so they can take it back to HQ's and get the rest on board. Thanks to the Faison Fam, Babies, supporters, and players, oops and kittens. What a wonderful experience.

I want to thanks everyone that came down in support of GVDG. We worked hard all year to get the course to where it is now. Thanks to everyone that helped me out on the course. Whether it be hauling mulch and dirt, or giving me competition in our rounds. Thanks to Scotty and all the Faisons who put so much into making this a great tourney. I can only hope that next year will be bigger and better. Thanks to MTL for the battle yesterday. We were head to head all day yesterday. It truly was fun and a great learning experience. Thanks to Schweb and CLee for the kind words after round 2 helping me to keep my head up. Congrats to Schweb for the BIG 50, milestone for sure. Myers, my boy, great run this weekend. probably the most tense battle I've ever had - and the best part of it was we were rooting for each other and gving congrats to the other and everything - man it was so much fun.

Sure wish I would have putted better and made it a little tougher on ya :D

But you def. deserved it - you threw the clutch shots and hit the big putts when you needed it and constantly put the pressure on me, esp on 10 with you up 1 and making the mando and then on 1 with us tied. You are a class act and throwing three rounds with you was great!

My two cents...
You can thank Wop for the brooms...that was his brain child...Tony did a ton of other things too that probably were not noticed...He deserves huge credit for the way the course looked this weekend...thanks to the Faison Family for putting on such a great weekend. I am ecstatic that my first Advanced win came at my home course. My grin got bigger all night long...

Joe and CLEE!!!congrats on NC Points!!!
I am glad all your hard work paid off...
Joe, I got to throw 80 holes with you this weekend
and it was so much fun...Thanks for your encouragement
and support even when you were not playing as well as you wanted to...

the highligt of my weekend (besides winning) was not carding a bogey all weekend. I did have a 4 on 15 from the longs each round, but no stupid holes...

I had a lot of fun battling it out with Adam last round...you the man MUS!!!!

Happy about your 50th Schwebb, I hope I am there for your 100th too, I just hope that I get my 2nd before then...

PEACE OUT and 363 remaining

Congrats on the win and the big 5-0 Schweb. The same goes for Myers San on a stellar victory. My first final round - lead card in ADV was memorable and it was very cool see you earn your first win. You, Mus, and Joe are all class acts and great golfers.

Thanks to JuanVee for putting us up and being a great host.

I have now updated the ncpoints to include DEPC.

http://www.ncdiscgolf.com/

It looks like all divisions have the winner decided at this point as 2nd place is more than 100 points behind except in Pro where Chris lee will need to show up to win. Otherwise we could have a tie if Schweb wins and Clee is not able to play.

November 17-18 Bull City Showdown. The last I heard the club was planning to use Forrest Hills again.

Thanks again to scotty and crew. It was an honor to be asked to do scores so stick and I tried to do something special for DEPC by uploading and printing the round ratings after each round. The course looked great and things seemed to go very smoothly.

MTL21676
Oct 22 2007, 10:53 PM
schweb will be at the players cup that weekend which means it will more than likely be :

1. C Lee
2. MTL
3. Schweb

The only possible way it could change would be if Schwebby plays Bull City (which won't happen) or if Halton wins Bull City with Schwebby not playing and then they would tie.

It is not possible for me to catch C Lee and as long as Schwebby doesn't play Bull City and I do, I will get second.

It's been a great year and congrats to C Lee for winning the trophy again.

Man....what an awesome weekend(except for one unspoken event). I've never had the lead during a PDGA before, but I did for two rounds this weekend. For the past two years, Ive shot my worst golf for the year at this tourney, so I finally broke that streak.
Thanks Mike and Stick for the awesome updated scores and ratings.
Thanks Cindy and everyone else that helped with the food, it was delicious.
I think we (GVDG) did an excellent job preparing the course this year, it looks the best it ever has.
Congratulations to Schwebb on your 50th win, and to Tony for his first cash. Congrats to Myers, I really wanted that trophy.....but obviously not bad enough, good shootin'. I will however be happy with my first 2nd place finish. :D
Finally, Thanks Scotty for putting together this tourney for us and running it, I can't even imagine how hard it is with Holden around. The payout was excellent, the players' pack was excellent, and the event was grade-A excellent.
