MP757
Aug 20 2007, 06:33 PM
This is a non sanctioned tournament. The course that resides on the Texas State University campus is an alcohol and drug free zone, so you will not be able to drink or "smoke" while you are playing.

Please let me make this very clear:

THERE WILL BE NO DRINKING OR "SMOKING" on the Texas State Campus Course!!

 We haven't had a tournament in this town in years and one of the main reasons is the last sanctioned event held at the campus resulted in people being arrested for drugs.

Steeplechase Park in Kyle (round 2) allows alcohol in plastic containers only if I remember correctly.

Are there any ladies plannning to play that day?

Aug 20 2007, 07:17 PM
Susan I'm not sure who's signed up yet, I'm just head of the club,

Taylor Hess (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showprofile.php?Cat=0&User=10153&Number=729708&Boa rd=TournamentInfo&what=showflat&page=0&fpart=1&vc= 1)

He's one of our club members and the TD for the tourney, he'll be taking money, signing folks up, and running this event. Mary Beth should end up probably playing as well as a few other women. LOLO'S? I unfortunatley will be out of town that weekend, but I do hope everyone enjoys themselves b/c our boy Taylor has been working real hard on putting this together and getting a lot of really good sponsorship in such a short amount of time.

P.S.
Why the gallon jug? No I.V. drip this year? :p ;) :D

31296
Aug 20 2007, 09:31 PM
I have been working with Tx State and Kyle PARD folks, and what Proctor said is true. No alcohol on Campus property and no glass containers at Kyle. I completely support everybody being able to have as much fun as they want, but we gotta play by the rules this time...

We've been able to get a bunch of great sponsors together for this event, and we should be able to put on a great event. I wanted this to be non-sanctioned so that we can mix it up a little bit and have some fun, not to mention paying cash to ALL DIVISIONS!!

There will be some side games and a FREE raffle where we're giving away tons of prizes including a free basket. Dynamic Discs is sponsoring an Ace Race hole. First person to splash it wins a nice prize package from Dynamic Discs (in addition to the ace-pot).

It's gonna be fun!!!!

Anybody know off the top of your head what the official/unofficial course records are at Tx State's new layout and Kyle?

I know Proctor and Yeti shot an 11 down in doubles, and I believe somebody else tied them. I think I've seen an 8 or 9 under in singles. Anybody know?

atxdiscgolfer
Aug 24 2007, 09:39 AM
dont know about TX State Univ. layout;but at the Kyle grand opening tourney that Jay and Des ran the records for Steeplechase were -5 for shorts which has been broken I shot a -7 and I have heard of someone shooting a -8;longs are -2 that Jay set but it could have been broken by now.I'm sure that the course record for TX States has to be double digits under though because every hole is reachable.

seewhere

I shot -12 at tx state univ course prior to the re-design :D

MP757
Aug 24 2007, 02:13 PM
TxState Campus Redesign:

Singles record: -8 by Brandon Smitheal

Doubles record: -13 by Joe Torres (dbl. cali) Smokin""

Kyle Steeplechase records:

Singles(longs): -6 by Martin Rendone
Singles(shorts): -7 by Joe Herndon?

Doubles(longs): -8 by Matt Proctor & James Donahoe?
Doubles(shorts): ?

That's all I know

atxdiscgolfer
Aug 24 2007, 02:50 PM
wow, -6 is smokin for the longs

MP757
Aug 24 2007, 03:13 PM
Since the redesign, everything is still reachable and if you really got hot, you could run number one through twelve off the board before you ran into #13 which I've only seen two people birdie so far. We'll probably set up three extra temp holes so everyone we'll get a chance to pad their score a little.:D :p ;) :) :D:D

MP757
Aug 24 2007, 03:31 PM
If I remember right, Martin birdied holes 10 through 15 and took par on everything else. He lives in Kyle and plays there all the time, but that's still smokin''!!!

31296
Aug 25 2007, 12:03 AM
Actually, we will be playing the new layout exactly as it is. There won't be any extra holes. The only changes we might make are a couple mando's here and there on campus so people teeing off don't get whacked in the head from somebody on another hole.

yes and no. It's what would be considered number 13 now and it's about three times longer. :D

I believe the hole atx is talking about is actually the pre-reconfiguration #18 (and, for those that were playing "windy hills" back in the 80s/90s, the old #14)---where one could bump off the upper part of the garage and ride the wall to the pin. The tee box is still there (it's the current #14), but instead of the pin being at the end of the treeline, it is now down the hill on the left...DR P is correct---the new #13 is a beast...right in that grey area between par 3 and par 4 (please tell me it's a par 4)...the guys who planned and executed the new layout did a fantastic job---still one of my favorite courses.

MP757
Aug 25 2007, 04:51 AM
Everything's par three, even hole 13. :( :p It is one of the holes people take the most strokes on, it and hole 11. Eleven probably has one of the toughest putting greens of any hole I've ever played. Oddly enough, everyone seems to like the little birdie opp. # 12 tucked behind the church a lot. Maybe it's the novelty of it or just the oppurtunity to get a stroke back from the previous hole.

Since this is non-sanctioned you are invited to play whatever division you want. If you feel like you are a MA1 player, then play MA1. I've got some good players signed up in that division too. There is a player list posted up if you want to see who's in already.
Yes, $25 for all divisions. There will be a cash payout in all divisions. Higher divisions, of course, will pay more than lower ones.

Number 12's pin was either stolen last week by vandals or the university pulled it for some reason. I've been trying to get intouch with our contact within TxState Rec. Dept. and haven't been able to get them to return any phone calls. :(

We have a basket that we can put on #12 temporarily for the day so we'll be covered. The university is aware and has put in a work order.

All Open and Advanced divisions will be throwing from the blues (long) at Kyle. Intermediate, Rec, and Women's divisions will be throwing from the red (short) tees.
