What would really be cool is to have two good rounds on Saturday and a Tech win over the poor aggies that Saturday evening. Speaking of the aggies, ya'll are all welcome to come to Lubbock for the tourney and still make the game as I think it is to be a 6:00 kickoff...the stadium is a short drive from the course. I think we should add ten strokes to all aggie supporters who play in the BAB...IF the aggies win over Tech. Ha.

BIG BUCKS ON THE BRAZOS is alive and well again this year. This will be the biggest payout ever for the BAB. I must stress that the field will be limited to 96 players. There will be camping allowed in the park inside the compound where headquarters will be located. I am currently working on stamped discs and tee shirts. I am trying to give 1000 dollars to the open winner, a basket to the advance winner, a bag to the am winner, and 500 dollars to the master champ, and 300 dollars to the open woman champ. There will also be trophies atleast to the division winners. Title disc should be up soon. DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT- DO NOT WAIT TO SIGN UP- WE WILL FILL THIS EVENT.

Tech sure beat up on SMU, we'll see about UTEP this weekend (24 pt favorites). Those Aggies are again coming to Lubbock to the tough crowd on October 13. C'mon DG playing Aggie fans, come out and play a good tough DG course in Lubbock. I've played Research Park and the others many times....my daughter is a A&M grad :(...was tough on a Texas Tech Red Raider through and through.

I think we're going to have a pretty good mix of players this year. I know that Tom from El Paso is coming. I hoping that he can coax NM new hottest player out of White Sands to come also. I heard that Rick Kapalco from Albuquerque is coming. I'm pretty sure that Jerry Harrison is coming. I know that many, many NM players said that the BAB was in the plans this year. I'll be headed to NM prior to tourney time, so I'll coax them some more...especially some of the Santa Fe and Taos players. We very possibly will have an advance grand master division if a few players come out of the woodwork. Marcus, who else is coming? I just secured an $800 sponsor! I'll be getting many more by tourney time!

Oct 03 2007, 11:12 AM
I think the old man, Rob, is content as and am. He and others of vintage age just don't get to play against many peers with the exception of a World's event. It is likely that the BAB will be offering the am grandmaster division....now that would be cool to have 10-12 players over 50!

#@$%! - The TEXAS TECH vs a&m game has been moved to 2:30 pm on Saturday. There goes several players. We must schedule better (hint, hint).

Weather - 12th forcast is at 81/52 (10 days away). Generally, we are a little warmer this year...here are the averages and records for Lubbock on Oct 13/14.

Is that 24 holes or just 21?

marcace
Oct 04 2007, 10:40 AM
24 :p

p-katt
Oct 04 2007, 03:36 PM
I was curious of the distance with the extra holes.

The present layout, for the most part, will be used for round 1 & round 2. We are in the MLS, as in Medium/Long/Short (beginning on hole 1) layout. Four the Sunday round 3 we will have the baskets, for the most part, in the longest of our triple basket positions.

So, for round 1 and 2 rec = 6615', round 3 rec = 7850', round 1 and 2 pro = 8746', and round 3 pro = 10145'.

And for those of you who have not had the chance to play Mackenzie...we have about five holes that have considerable water hazard (Brazos river runs through it), three good elevation cliff shot holes (and some with some minor elevation up and down, up and over, or on the side), mowed grass areas, challenging terrain (yes, cactus, mesquite, etc) areas, some tight holes, some tunnel shots, and definetly some big arm areas. The course lies in a shallow canyon area of the Brazos River, so the course is subject to high wind on over half of the course....but usually, this time of year the winds are minimal (likely none to little wind in the mornings, maybe 10-15 mph in the afternoon round).

Oct 04 2007, 11:57 PM
ok i just noticed that this tournament is 3 rounds with no final 9. can someone give me a decent ballpark guess at when things will be done on sunday so that people can travel home?? i'm trying right now to decide on whether to play the corpus christi tournament or make the hike up to lubbock and having an idea of when things will be over on sunday will really help me out.

p-katt
Oct 05 2007, 12:41 AM
I personally love to run and see final nines....so cool to see how to really throw discs. BUT, Marcus really wanted to take actions to get players headed back home as early as possible. We'll try to start promptly on time, get things done as quickly as possible after the round, and send the out of towners on their way. Not having a final nine was an easy way to cut an hour off of the departure times. Basically, were offering/challenging out of towners to take a great payout home...and early at that. We'll do the post tourney partying in Lubbock for you.

Okay, more than 'wow'....85 players that included 29 pro players (19 in open alone, 3 women, 7 masters). Marcus came through with the promise of $1,000 to the open winner, Coda Hatfield. Payouts across all divisions were very generous. I'm proud that we did have the adv grand masters division with seven players....seven players over 50 years old, pretty cool. Vicente and Greg Brooks tied and went to a three hole playoff to an eventual Greg win. What a way to start this division offering! The weather was generall good with a little more wind than wanted on Saturday (only a little on Sunday). I think everyone had a great time. MARK your calendars right now for the BAB in October 2008. (I want to really expand the grand masters and to really expand all womens divisions).

You guys did a great job all across the board. The most impressive thikng was the quickness in which the tourney was ran. Players meetings were short and to the point and cards did not take for ever to be distributed. With the exception of the raffle, I could have been on the road by 2ish!! The Windriders, Marcus, and Sherri did a wonderful job and it was great to see you guys again! Can't wait until next year!

Thanks to Marcus and Sherri for running a great tournament (it gets easier the second time around :D). Lots of little things that went into making the tournament great (10m cirlces, OB clearly marked, course in great shape overall, etc.). Everything was timly and smoothe, and that makes a big impression (as Nate eluded to). And, everything ran smoothly with EVERYONE on the staff also playing the event.

Payout was BIG! For the Am's, it was roughly 160% of what they paid in, and for the Pro's....a ridiculous 225%!! There was over $2,600 added to the Pro's alone  Those numbers rival some A-Tiers.....

Thanks to Bo Neill for putting me up for the weekend. Thanks to Coda Hatfield and Jennifer Allen for some entertaining converstation Saturday night. :D Good to meet Nate Bitner and his fiancee (sorry, dont remember her name :()

Big props to the Lubbock Windriders Club for supporting the TD's and pulling off a great event. I'm glad I could be apart of it and help out.

Easy there, big fella... TitleDISC is changing ownership this week. It will be in my hands from now on. I don't yet know what happened with your issue, but I promise that it won't be a problem moving forward. I'll be making some big changes to it as soon as Ben and I can finalize the transition. If you have a problem that needs to be resolved, please let me know and I'll get it taken care of. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, but rest assured that I"ll do everything I can to make it right. Please don't hold it against titledisc... I definitely don't want bad press right as I take the reigns :). Feel free to PM me or email me about the issue whenever you like.

Look at Nolans last round

Jroc
Oct 16 2007, 12:10 PM
Yeah, he tore it up that round. With my best game, I could have maybe shot a 72 on Sunday....a 64 is RIDICULOUS!!! Of course, he is rated about 9 throws better than I am too ;) Probably has something to do with it.....

I was in Lubbock today to do some work and went by to see this course for the first time and I was totally impressed with the beautiful park and the killer course in it. Must have been a crazy tournament. Wish I had been there to see Coda and Nolan duke it out ( which I expect them to do here at the VPO ). Would it be possible for you to post Nolan's hole by hole scores on that last round?
P.S.
I lost my favorite disc of all time on hole 4 when I hit a tree and glanced in the water right at the edge at the start of the reeds. It's a 145 pink ( ) Wraith with Stephanie Cantrells name on it. She traded it to me and I'll give anyone $10 that brings it with them to the VPO.

Thanks for those scores, Marcace. That was a sick round for sure. If he had done that well on his last round at the USDGC he would have brought home thousands. :D

I got curious about just how good the payout at the BAB was this year, so I did some checking last night. The BAB has the 5th largest Pro purse and the 3rd highest purse-per-player ratio of all the 304 B-Tier events reported so far! I dont have access to the AM payouts, but I bet they would rank highly as well.

Just another example of the phatness of the BAB!! :D
