It's a private course where many people camp. Basically out in the sticks.
One round, we play what is called Ian's course, named after Dave Moody's (the owner and creator of Oktoberfest) son Ian. Last tourney, three holes were added to all courses making them all 21 holes. Ian's course is shorter, more birdies, three or four par 4s. Then we play the main course from the longs (blues) and the mids (white). imo, the white is top notch: difficult, demanding birds and about 5 par 4s. Generally, you can make a good move with a solid round from the whites. The blues has fewer birds, almost all of which are demanding, and definitely tougher par fours. I can't think of any par 5s.
Overall, the par 4s are not tight and favor distance over placement. The par 3s are not super tight either, but often demand strong throws with reasonable accuracy.
Oh yeah, the TDs are great. ;)

You are in for the best tournament experience of your life. Plan on camping , that is where the real fun is !!!!
Keep an eye out for the campsite with the Jamacian Flag, that is the place to be . Bring glowsticks and an open mind, you will have the time of your life. The disc golf is incredible. Ian's course is a blast, and the [censored] is one tough mo-fo!!!!!!!!
Prolly the most fun I have ever had.

James' description of the course is pretty fair. There are a couple of ponds that come into play on 6 of the holes. Metal Mike usually rescues a stack of plastic during the final 9 on Sunday.
The people are great so camping is fun.

Smokin' Joe won Open
James "The Legend" McCaine continued his winning streak in masters and also continued his acceptance speech style of mumbling something incoherent and running back to the safety of his chair.
Great weekend of disc golf fun!!
Thanks to the Justice League and Fishhead for taking care of us.
Some somewhat foggy moments from the weekend:
Dave "DD" Durham aceing hole 2
Jake "Tin Cup" Walsdorf scoring a 10 on hole 2.
Mr. Hovey almost falling in the water and Mrs. Hovey twisting her ankle badly while playing hole 2 during night golf.
Hole 2 was where it was at!

Oct 09 2007, 09:59 AM
Mitch, I don't know if you were the one that entered the scores into pdga.com or if someone else did but i just thought that i'd point out that judging from the fact that the intermediate ratings are the same as the pros, it wasn't entered that they played different courses than we did. Someone needs to go in and change that so that the ratings will be correct. I think it's pretty obvious when right now it shows a 911 rated am shootting 965 golf to win. I'm not dissing him at all but that shows that something is wrong with the way they were entered.
wolfpackgolfer
Oct 09 2007, 10:01 AM
The first round open played whites and intermediate played reds if i'm not mistaken and the ratings are exactly the same for whatever score eventhough there were different courses.
LouMoreno
Oct 09 2007, 11:00 AM
I'm pretty sure MJ entered it. The layouts just need to be updated to show that Int and Rec played the red tees in the 1st round and whites in the 2nd. Should be a quick fix.

You always shoot higher rated rounds but I can beat you at trick shots. 125 ft from a chair with some disc out Ian's bag and... BANG! It's in. :D

Oct 09 2007, 02:09 PM
Indeed. The finest shot all weekend. You handle those Gateway discs much better than Ian. I have watched Olse, Ramirez, Hall and Hovey throw them and never wanted to own one, but all of a sudden, Moreno gets a hold of one and boom, I am coveting Gateway. ;)

On another note, anyone have any ideas why the ratings are lower than the Red Rock show for the same scores, despite arguably tougher conditions?

Probably because there were more 980 and up rated players at the RRS pushing up the ratings.
