Best bet is to just take a look at the location of where he's from, find the courses closest by within a certain radius and email the course contact to see if they had any baskets stolen.

You could try contacting ebay too, they don't take kindly to stolen property on their site.

Somebody already thinks they recognize it from a course not far from Coon Rapids. He believes it is hole 9 from Silverview that was stolen about a month ago. (what a coincidence the guy became a member of ebay about a month ago)

We want the auction to stay up so the PD can take care of it, so don't antagonize the guy. It may not be stolen, too, but it sure is suspicious.

Aug 03 2007, 10:50 AM
At this point I'd suggest calling the local police. While the amount is relatively small, a) it's public property, b) the investigation is simple enough for them to conduct.

BTW - did anyone think to contact the manufacturer to see if they ever sold a basket to this guy? Not that you'd get much info, he could have won it (yeah right) or gotten it second hand.

I'd also contact the parks department, and I'd do it soon before he takes a powder.

Lyle O Ross
Aug 03 2007, 10:53 AM
BTW - the numbering on this basket is very unique, it shouldn't take much to do a comparison with the local course to see if the numbering is similar or the same.

The word "Frisbee" is a tradmarked name and not permitted to be used in auctions that are not actually selling a Frisbee item. That's why in all the eBay stores you'll see everything called Disc Golf (as it should) instead of referencing Frisbee golf. A fellow store owner was shut down temporarily because of this.

Now while this guy spelled it "Fisbee" (hilarious in it's own right), you could probably report it to eBay stating that it is using a trademarked name improperly and get the listing removed.

I know that you can order just the basket and chain assembly from DGA and get your pole locally. It saves on the cost and shipping. A local player did just that.

I couldn't provide a bill of sale for my portable basket. IMO, this seller sound legit, unlike mister "low putts".

It does have a distinct sticker on the pole inside of the chains. This could probably identify it if it was stolen.

Looks like a Heineken label.

I guess that this would not be a unique marking. There are probably a few baskets out there with beer labels affixed.

I have several baskets in my back yard and could not produce a bill of sale or receipt for any of them. I could maybe get anecdotal evidence for the ones that I have won from some of the other players that were at those events, but not much more than that.

It may well be completely legit, but I would feel better if the guy would at least address my question. It has only been one day and he may not have seen the question yet. If he does not answer at all then that might be a clue.

Seeing as where the Seller is from...Id bet that this is legit (hence Ive bid on it) The SoCal golfers would be ALL OVER this guy if it was stolen.....
Dont be too quick to judge....I also have 3 baskets that I could not produce reciepts for (maybe for 1 of them)
1 was a trophy from the Alabama Worlds that I bought for 100 bucks in '92 (Very SWEET Chrome Mach I) As well as a Trophy basket won by my Wife yrs ago as well. :D

That was a great event. The first town to repeat the Worlds, the first Hall of Fame induction, players dinner party at the Space and Rocket Center and a really cool video sponsored by Pizza Hut and shown nationwide.

Unlike you he has not responded to my question at all. You immediately can tell me where yours came from, I expected the same from him. I would be glad to explain why the pole is too short if it were mine, as you would likely have some story about it if were it yours.
But I have had 60 views from my message at the SoCal section with not a single comment so you are quite possibly right.
Good bidding.

I still tell people about the players party in '83, where we got to get a private ride in the simulated takeoff ride that was really a centrifuge, and how cool it was to throw a mini and watch is veer off in odd directions, or, if you could time the angle and speed, you could throw the mini to yourself, because you would rotate over to where the mini went, making it look like it was on some kind of invisible yo-yo string!

Yea...

Don't mess with the PDGA...heh ;)

BTW I'm glad all is good now. I just don't understand why someone would "steal" a basket.
Such a dumb and selfish thing to do.
