The Invitational at Moraine State Park
(a Handicap Disc Golf Tournament)
August 4 & 5, 2007
Entry $5
One round of 18 holes from the blue tees
Trophies to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners!
CTP prizes from Discraft and the PFDS!
100% payout to top 1/3 of field!

The Pittsburgh Flying Disc Society invites disc golfers of all skill levels to compete in this weekends handicap tournament at Moraine State Park! Handicaps have been created for players who have participated in tournaments at Moraine State Park as well as the Schenley Park league. Players who do not have a published handicap are welcome to compete by raw score (no handicap adjustment).

Competitors will play one round of 18 holes from the blue tees and scores will be adjusted according to each players handicap. Player handicaps are posted below and this link can also be reviewed on www.pfds.org (http://www.pfds.org) under the forum section.

This tournament will have a flex-start meaning players can post their round at any time Saturday or Sunday (3:00 pm cut-off for last round on Sunday). A leaderboard will be on display near hole 1 and standings will be updated after each player/group turns in their scorecard. Players must play with at least two other competitors so rounds can be witnessed, so bring a friend or two! Winners will be announced online after the tournament concludes on Sunday and arrangements will be made to distribute the trophies and prizes at a later date.

This tournament will occur during this weekends festival at Moraine State Park, the Regatta at Lake Arthur. Admission is free to the festival...contests, boat races, car shows, helicopter rides, hot-air balloons, music and fireworks are just part of festivities. Click here (http://www.moraineregatta.com/) to visit the Regatta's web site for more information.

The PFDS will have a tent near hole 1 and we will be promoting disc golf to park visitors. Innova, Discraft, the PDGA and the DGA have provided us with several different merchandise brochures which we will be distributing to park patrons. We will have a large selection of golf discs for sale and we will be offering a free raffle drawing for disc golf merchandise, courtesy of Discraft! Last year, over 40,000 people visited the Regatta at Lake Arthur. Come out for some fun in the sun and help us spread the word about the sport we know and love! We hope to see you this weekend!

* Schenley League handicap is used for players who do not have a Lakeview course average.

Scores are adjusted to a "no handicap" score of 66 (par). Players who have a round average under 66 must ADD handicap throws to their scores. The handicaps are based on a sliding percentage that starts at 80.4% and rises to 90% of the difference between the raw score and 66. If in case two or more players end up with the same adjusted score, the player with the lowest raw score wins the tie. If there's still a tie, the player who has played more rounds in league or tournament play (at Moraine) wins the tie. Use player's scores on the back nine if a tie must still be broken. The last tie break option is a coin flip. (Handicap formula provided courtesy of Chuck Kennedy.)

Several folks have said they would be at the Regatta this weekend, both to play and help staff. Last year we had quite a few club members who volunteered staffing the PFDS exhibit. The Regatta's website has "Disc Golf" listed from 10:00 - 4:00 on Saturday & Sunday so we could definitely use volunteers...even if it is only for an hour or two. We'll have practice baskets set up near the tent and it's a lot of fun watching people try their hand at disc golf for the first time! Especially the kids!

I think it would be a good idea if Alanna and I would help out. Alanna in particular, that way she can promote females becoming more involved in the sport plus she hot and who wouldn't want to talk to a discgolfing chick. We are planning on coming out Saturday morning to play and hang out afterwards.

Okay.....we are ready for the Regatta-at-Lake-Arthur! (http://www.regatta-at-lake-arthur.com/) All the baskets have been moved to a-pin and the PFDS tent has been erected near hole 1's tee. Banners will go up tomorrow when the festivities begin. Hope to see y'all there!

Thank you Thank you...Like i said before i knew this event was taking place so i purposely bagged every event held at Moraine to get my handicap as high as possible. It was a plan that i've been working on for 6 months now and i'm finally weeping the benefits. :D  :D

I needed to shoot a -16 under par (50) to beat your handicap adjustment, Kurt. That's quite a challenge considering the blue-tee course record is a 52 set by Matt Orum in 2005. Once the round started and I birdied the first 5 holes and eagled hole 6 to post a front nine score of 25, I started thinking I could do it! Reality kicked in on the back nine, however! I did end up shooting my best round ever at Moraine, including my first bogey-free round on the course.

Again....congrats on your good play, KP. Next year, baby...
