As far as Festival Park goes, are there going to be any changes in the setup compared to last year's OHO?
oakhollowdgc
Aug 06 2007, 07:40 PM
We should have the entire other side of the park for our event. I am awaiting for the final approval. If we get the entire other side of the park, the course will be pretty awesome! I will let everyone know when I can. I will also post a course map of it on our website when it is finalized, if it changes from last year.

I am looking for anyone from the Charlotte area who would offer to bring the Innova fly mats for the OHO. It is too much for one truck or one person, so if we get a couple of offers, we can make it happen. If not, we will be using good old fashion el-natural tees. We will be happy to make some kind of compensation for any tee pad hauling volunteers!

if it is the same as last year the am's will play 1 round from the longs 1 round from the shorts. am's did not play the ludes last year. Johnson street toomes is a fun course if you have not played it. and festival park is beautiful. it is a great mix with the temp course in use and hole 2 and 3 at festival are argueably some of the most picturesque in the state. come on out if you can!!

yes OHDGC will have a list posted some time in the near future before the tourney, we have some registrations already coming in, TTHANKS. remember TD's have JOBS too. For those of you who do PRE-REGISTER we appreciate it immensely. For those who like longs lines, delays and stressing your VOLUNTEER tourney staff the day of feel free to wait til the 25th or complain here if it helps you vent.
Im getting excited though. Its a big undertaking setting up a temp course three days in a row for everyones enjoyment. Remember to say THANKs to any Ttourney staff or fellow golfer working at either course or even lend a hand if you can while your in town.
17 days to showTTime, You may want to bring an extra water disc or two just in case this year. Hey big rock my first practice throw went into #2 as well last year.
Looking forward to seeing many friends soon. Cant wait to play golf, better golf this year, hopefully. Last year i was in the hospital 10 days before with an infection in the gutbag.
Fun course, it may get a little longer, just wait and see???, Please!!! Those details will be determined soon. Boat Drags in Entire Park this week/weekend and we will get out week after next to finalize course if any changes are made. Hope everyone PRE-REGISTERS and comes with a positive aTTitude. See everyone on the course in two weeks.

I know that I did in a practice round. I could not get it out. It took some nasty pulling/ twisting/ kicking/ etc... to get the disc out from being wedged between the planks. This one did not hit the dock and roll, it hit between the planks in flight and stuck in place on the fly, like it hit a big pile of mud! Good stuff, should have taken a photo of that one!
Super Dave WOW I didn't know that. What is it about Johnson street Park.
There is nothing really all that special about JSP. It has 6 hyzers, 6 anhyzers, and 6 relatively straight shots. Add in 3 sets of tees for each hole, a good mix of both open and wooded holes, and you have a well rounded course. You have to throw many different types of shots at JSP. Also, we run a bunch of weekly events which I think helps the locals when on the road at tourneys. If I'm in a situation at another course where I do not really know what to do or throw, I can easily picture a shot from JSP that will closely match the situation I am in. This leads to a more comfortable/ confident throw. The only thing lacking at JSP is a little asthetic beauty. You can't have it all....

Good Luck Joe, You are going to be a great Parent, and role model. To clarify, anybody with a sperm seed can be a father, but to be a parent, is another challenge, and you're up to it. Go buy a set of flowers now, I call these Just Cuz Flowers. That way, you're always up one and you can refer to that when in trouble. If you buy flowers for Mothers day, Expected. Valentines day, Expected, Birthday, or Anniversary, Expected. But Just Cuz flowers, puts you one ahead. Kinda like a mulligan. Cant wait to see you and the Family with your little cupcake. They're Greeeaaaattttt.

Best wishes on your upcoming fatherhood day. It will be one of the most memorable days of your life.

I tried to make some google maps to show the holes for both festival park and Johnson St. Some of these may be slightly off but it should be fairly accurate for those trying to get somewhat of an idea of the holes. Festival park is likely to change as well but this should be what was used last year and will cover many of the holes.

Okay, for the Intelligent One. Last year a comment was made that all am's will be on this course. Let me clear that up. Advance are still considered ams too. So this year will be more specific. What courses will each division be playing on when?, so those of us that are in groups can plan?. Thanks

Rock, I love ya man but don't make it sound like I just shouted out "ams go here". The following are direct quotes from the "players meeting on a sheet". I think it was very specific and it was also a little more than just a comment.
"PRO, PRO MASTER, AND AMATEUR PLAY AT JOHNSON STREET SATURDAY AND FESTIVAL SUNDAY. AT JSP, THE 1ST ROUND WILL BE ON THE BLUE TEES AND THE 2ND ROUND WILL BE ON THE WHITE TEES.
ADVANCED, ADVANCED MASTER AND ALL WOMEN WILL PLAY FESTIVAL SATURDAY AND JOHNSON STREET SUNDAY. AT JSP, THE 1ST ROUND WILL BE ON THE BLUE TEES AND THE 2ND ROUND WILL BE ON THE WHITE TEES."

Ok, have you ever went and played a course blind, sometimes it plays easier when you dont know about the risks . If you gotta know though..... We will have final measurments by the end of the week and she will get setup sometime on friday afternoon after lunch.
Some of the shorter holes out there will be removed this year, the two holes after you crossed the bridge(backside) will be combined to form a 500' to 700' hole uphill. (you will also not play the next hole that went across the field toward the entrance road near the manhole cover), then you will proceed up to the bench at the top of parking lot over-looking the dam. you will throw a mighty hyzer for right handers and bite off the length of clearance you choose for this nice looking par 3. You will walk closer to the water to tee next and you better bring a righthanders anhyzer that will not roll out into the drink, as water will be on your left the entire length of this next hole. you will walk uphill to the parking lot and throw a shot undetermined length to get you back to the valley, gut shot downhill 350.
Come On Out and Have Some Fun.
More details after final GPS measurements later this week. NO we have not established a par yet, but it will be 18 holes of golf to test all skill levels, no way anyone shoots a 41 this year, is there?

ROCK and Other Inquiring Minds: Numbers will dictate divisions BUT MOST LIKELY it will be same as last year with minor modifications. ams and pros play johnson street sat and festival sunday. last year we played blue, white. it was also adv and adv masters on festival saturday and johnson sunday, the ladies will be placed where they fit in best numbers wise.
The more people that prereg the better idea we have, when you have a line 40 deep on saturday morning it might take some shuffling if needed, hopefully not.
Best advice, come to players mtg at johnson street saturday morning with positive vibes, spread the cheer and good will to other golfers and youll have a good weekend no matter what you shoot.

Did anyone play yesterday @ singles with all that rain?
I bet it messed up JSP some!
I was going to ask about these two things & I already mentioned them to Wyatt last week.
Two things that could use some work prior to the O-HO are the dirt on pad 17 long & maybe we could take that dirt & put it on 9 short to allow a smooth approach. There is a big old curb there.
Other than that that course is good to go in my opinion.
I will be playing there today & will check out what those 2 pads look like & see if I can go ahead & take care of one of them if not both.
Yeah cuz I am not that guy who gripes & does nothing.
I am pumped about this weekend!!

Aug 22 2007, 12:20 PM
There were 12 of us that showed up last night.
TJ shot an impressive 3 down in the wetness to take the victory. Mookie, Doug G and I tied for 2nd with 2 downs.
Those who play in the rain, feel no pain.
17s teepad was straight until the rain left in under an inch of mud. If you can work on it, today is the day. It would probably be still wet, making it easier to manage the dirt. I suggest a spare fly pad if it exist.
See yall Friday.

Thank you for registering for the 2007 Oak Hollow Open! We hope that you have a great time here in High Point this weekend! Below are parts of the players meeting for Saturday.
It is possible that the divisions will be at different courses than listed below, but at this point this is where the numbers best match. If we have too many unregistered Advanced (MA1) or Amateurs (MA2) show up on Saturday morning, we may have to pull a switch-a-roonie to keep an even pace between the courses.
Players meeting at 9:30 AM at Johnson Street. You must sign your tournament card before the meeting. Show up early to beat the crowd, then you can practice or relax until the meeting.
There is no 2-meter out of bounds rule for this event.
Festival will be a little longer on the upper side. The lower side will be very close to the same. We have some extra land at the upper side so we were able to make a couple of sweet holes! When the course is completed with gps distances, we will post it. At least nobody gets to play the course until Friday, so I dont see a big advantage for anyone. (notewe have not had access to the park for some time due to the boat drag races, so finalization of the course has been slow.)

last year, Sunday was my bday at festival, and I aced during the first round and then shot a 13 the second round for a 1061 round which at the time was my highest rated round and the tournament was the first 4 round tournament I averaged over 1000....
This year, my birthday is on monday and I will be at work.
Kind of a let down from last year....

I think that is a valid question. Not sure i like answers like 6ish, that can be 5:30, 6, 6:15, or even 6:44. Makes alot of difference for those that travel over 20 minutes.I too would like to know, so I know if I can make it on time, I sure don't want players waiting on me, not my cup of tee.

rocky i don't know buddy the only people that can tell you when doubles starts is the guys running doubles. so i would say patience (which i have little!) would be what we need to exercise here and i am sure tater or super dave will chime in soon and firm our info. up. man am i still at work leaving promptly at 1200 hours tomorrow just 22 hours 56 minutes till departure.

Great, If MTL comes in around 6ish, and Wave around 4:59ish,I can probably make it around somewhere in the vicinity of, and next to just about a little after 5:30ish, but before 7:00ish, that would give us somewhere , close to around , and just a guess now, about oh lets see , uh almost 6 , perhaps 7 players that can be there in that timeframe, hoping we are talking about the current Easter Standard time zone. It may, perhaps, might be a possibility that we could perhaps, next to maybe get a doubles round off.

Thanks to the OHO Crew again for another great event. Every year everybody seems to step up to put on a great event. Thanks to all for the hard work put in. Johnson st looked really good and the changes at festival were nice as well. Maybe next year the city can install some air conditioning though.
I only felt I had one bad round all weekend and I felt lucky to finish that round.
Helping out with the OHO is one of the most fun events for me because there are so many good people there and things just happen. I think we turned around the leaderboard each round in about 15 minutes with all the help.
Will be interesting to see some of Eddie's stats after he finishes the entry of the data. I am curious to know how many amateurs got a 2 on hole 15 at festival. :D
The last round was one of the most fun rounds I have had in quite some time. Our card went 42, 44, 46, 47 and the people shooting 47 felt bad about their round. When you shoot -7 at Johnson St white and feel bad you know there was some nice shooting going on. It was great to see Richards round only missing hole 18 on the back 9. Our group had 4 star frames on the back 9 I think. I knew we were playing well when after we threw several holes and I was the furthest person out and I was only 12 feet from the basket. This happened on several holes with everybody inside the circle.
NCPoints should be updated later tonight. The computer is processing the results for the web now.
Can't wait til next year already.
And cant forget to thank Sue and Dave for helping out putting several people up each year as well as feeding them and doing whatever to make the event run smoothly.
