So.......There is a definite lack of tourney's in the Houston area this summer.....Anyone heard from Danger? I'd love to have more tourney's in the area as we have such a GREAT variety of awesome courses.......So, I'm too new to the sport to grab the reigns and run with them, but I definitely don't have the experience yet.

Calling all td's.........Bring em on!! If you build it, they will come!!!

Not too likely that many events will pop up. I may run one or two at macgregor this year but that will depend on how hard college is.

The Commando Mini at Spring Valley is about the only thing going these days.

Stimpy and I are in the process of holding the first ever ratings based tournament in September. We would like to host it at Tom Bass, but we are still checking with the County Parks to see if it is possible. If so, then it is our intent to setup a pair of hybrid courses featuring many of the holes we typically only setup for Texas States. (Dragon, and Texas State holes as well as East side of Powell along the golf course.)

It will be a low-cost entry fee and feature an all-merchandise payout from Texas States/HFDS inventory.

I have heard from Rick pretty regularly lately. He is (at least temporarily) out of the tournament scene at the moment due to finances. He is working to get a second house ready for sale, and once he gets out from under two house payments, he'll be around again. (He's predicting a few weeks, I'm predicting about 2 more months. :D)

When does he plan to square up with the PDGA?

What would the divisions be in the ratings based system? BTW isn't it basically a normal event without Masters and women?

I THINK IT'S THE HEAT AND SKEETERS THAT INTERFERE WITH THAT IDEA. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN HEAT STROKE ON A GOLF COUSE? IT'S QUITE UGLY!

Stick with the mini's like Larry's as there is good shade in those neck of the woods. Just like a one day event or head north with the rest of us! :)

Hey! Jack Brooks has always been on the map!!!

It is one of the better 18-hole courses in Houston - it's just too far to drive down there for a casual round for me! :D (I'm sure you feel the same way about the Commando Mini too! :D)

I can't wait to see what the long awaited second 18 turns out like Jake! I've enjoyed the courses you've designed so far and I'm really looking forward to seeing what you get to carve out at Brooks for us!

Hey Sue thanks for the reply! Is this the first year for this tourney? Went to sign up online and it says advanced is 33.75 if you are a member: Sign up (http://activenet5.active.com/conroe/servlet/registrationMain.sdi?source=activityframes.sdi) Is this put on by the city? Is there any ring of fire those where the types of info I was looking for ..... is it worth the drive from DFW :D

I called Javier Pena this afternoon and spoke with him. They are limiting their divisions to just the ones that have been posted.

I expressed my disappointment at the last of a Masters or Grandmasters division. Mr Pena admitted that they were very new to running a tournament and asked my advice about how to handle this in the future. I gave him some additional information and some advice and so I think that their 2nd tournament (being planned for the fall sometime...) will be different and better.

I'm still considering registering in one of the Am divisions...my rating would allow me to play down to Rec. division - which after this weekend's run at Quail Valley, I apparently belong in! :D:D:D

I don't think there is too many signed up at this time. (typical dg'er procrastination perhaps?)
It's a very nice course that plays quickly. I'm guessing SSA is around 50. (I have no idea how to figure it out...just guessing after many rounds out there)
It's being run by the city Parks & Rec Dept. and not dg'ers. Not much information as to payout, format, extras are available.
I'll try to zip up there & ask for a look at the preregisteration to post here in the next 24 hours.

Yes, Olse spent a couple of days walking the property with me. He came up with some interesting ideas/hole designs.

If the county would move off center, we could complete this little southern jewel.
