its a great tournament - usually 2 rounds of 21 at Ford Park -nice park mostly flat with huge Pine Trees that will stop a disc on a dime and a nice lake that doesnt come into play and 1 round of 27 holes at Clyde Fant Park -nice park next to Red River, downtown Shreveport, and Casinos with low ceiling shots and fast greens. I really wish that there was more talk on this one every year, there may be more info @ www.sndg.org (http://www.sndg.org) though.

you can usually sign up the morning of but you may miss out on a towel if your playing AMs.I talked to Kevin the other day and I think he said Open- $65 ADV- 45 or $50 INT- 40 or $45.If you are at Ford park around 8:30,you should be ok but I would call Kevin to make sure;he is the TD and I am just a player from Austin that has played the tournament a couple of times. At the '05 Challenge they had a guy serving cajun food and always have a putting contest,etc..

This is a great event. I went to this tournament last year and had alot of fun. Ford Park is a great course to play. The other course is a little dinker course until they add the other nine holes accross the street.

It is a great tournament. I went for the first time last year and I'll attend every year that I can. Last year, Rusty Banks's mom cooked a huge amount of food that 80 people could eat and there would still be some left over. The Shreveport guys always do a hell of a job and you will be missing out if you do not go.

I've got the flyer right here and the divisons/cost:

Open - $60 Master - $50
Grandmaster - $40 Women - $30
Advanced - $40 Adv. Master - $40
Am Master - $30 Amateur - $30
Am Women - $20 Junior/Novice-$15*

Novices/Juniors play Saturday only and all non pdga members pay $5 extra.

Registration is on Saturday from 8-9 at Ford Park.

$500 to first place Open.

1st paid 50 entries get a free towel.

If you have any questions, send an email to ShreveportDGC@comcast.net

I'll certainly be returning to avange my crippling blow up during the last 9 holes of Clyde Fant. Here's a tip: Play those extra nine holes at least once before the tourney. ;)

This tournament is really awesome. Last year I vowed to return well before the tournament was over.

I don't see anywhere on this forum where it says that Jessica did anything different than Megan. This is how it's listed in the msg before SueMac's:

WOMEN(3)
Jessica Clark 76 68 89 233 $50 mdse(didnt accept cash)
Megan Stroh 72 78 89 239 $25 mdse(didnt accept cash)

Yes, I did. I also took cash in Arkansas in May. Now that I've figured out how to cope with my hand, I anticipate my game will improve as I figure out left handed putting.

I signed up for Peoria as a pro master. As I am still under 850, I can play advanced in most local events if I want to, too.

Funny, I bet if this was a guy pointing out the rules, you wouldn't say that. I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but as an official and knowing how the rules read, it is my responsibility to point out things that are not being handled by the RULES, not my rules, but PDGA rules.

Precisely, The TD made the call.. and I bet since the division didn't say Open or Advanced he can do what he pleases. Just because you insinuated it was an open division doesn't mean it was.

suemac
Jul 18 2007, 03:22 PM
Oh yes it was, and it is being addressed. I've been on the phone with Will Timmons. I knew it was an open division as Emily Lawrence played it last year by herself. We actually thought she was coming this weekend too. The SN organization uses different wording and it can sometimes be confusing.

haleigh
Jul 18 2007, 03:22 PM

No, I about flipped when I saw those results posted saying that my daughter Megan accepted prizes in lieu of cash when playing in a Pro division, because I know that doing so in a PDGA sanctioned event makes you a pro.

Thank you SueMac for verifying that Megan declined the cash and took nothing. Megan knows the rules so that results list was confusing.

If you thought you could accept prizes in lieu of cash in a PDGA sanctioned event and retain your amateur status, you should be thanking SueMac for educating you instead of harping on her.

Megan knew about it. I wish that Matt was on line today to back me up on this, however they are getting ready for her to fly out in the morning. I'm sure he'll make a comment when he gets back to his computer.

And talk to the SN folks about the "unclear" labeling of divisions. That wasn't my doing. LOL

No matter what you might think at this moment, this was not intended to stir the pot in a negative light. Get over it.

It was an OPEN division. Jess didnt want to accept cash. Kevin just threw in some plastic for her. As far as the $50 cash, I have no idea where it went. Good luck

Wow, I wish when a TD "threw" some plastic my way, I got to go through the bins and select with a consult with my hubby on what to purchase and then call it a "throw out" from the TD. What I obseved was someone who had $50 to spend and was deciding on what to take.

The "throw out" I was referring to was the discs that Kevin supposedly just "gave" her. Did he select those discs? I know he didn't as I watched the whole event happen. She picked and took what she wanted, not what he gave her.

So, did she take the cash or not, it is an easy question. Why the need to make such mean and negative comments.

Clarification, communication, whatever you want to call it.

The answer to that question will solve everything. She just couldn't take merch valued at $50 and retain her am status. And if she declined, and Megan declined, the RULES state the money pays down to the next person who just happens to be me.

Ive been trying to decide whether or not I was going to weigh in on this issue. I wasnt at the tournament, and I havent spoken directly to any of the parties involved. That being said, Ive become increasingly frustrated reading this thread. There are too many accusations and assumptions being made and too much name calling going around. Still, from reading this thread, there are some important issues that have come to mind:

1) Divisions need to be clearly defined at a PDGA sanctioned tournament so that they match the names and descriptions given in the official PDGA divisions guide.
2) There is a need to review the divisions available to women playing both PDGA sanctioned and unsanctioned events. There are many tournaments that I have gone to where I was one of maybe 2 or 3 women, if that. If there are Open, Advanced, Intermediate, and Rec divisions available, and only 3 women playing, it is entirely possible that each woman has signed up for a different division. Ive found myself jumping from Rec to Adv to Int and back up to Adv just so that Ill be in a division with someone else (anyone else!). Im not sure what the solution is at this point, except to get more women to play, but I think the situation which has come up certainly speaks to this point.
3) Perhaps most importantly, since female participation is lacking in disc golf today, it is important that we, as female disc golfers, stick together and work as a group to resolve issues. Suemac has brought up the point that because Jess accepted merchandise in place of cash at a PDGA sanctioned event, she is now obligated to move up to pro. Since Jess hasnt said whether or not this is her intention, there is really nothing to argue about at this point. If its not Jesss intention, the point I would make is that someone should have made the rule clear to her before she was required to make a choice whether to accept the cash, merchandise, or nothing. Stick together! If it is her intention, go Jess! Shes not going to have a problem. Shes a strong player and improving all the time. The thing is, that if I had been in her position, and been offered the merchandise, and the TD implied that by doing so I didnt have to move up, Im not sure I would have known what to do, so its great that Suemac has brought up this issue. The problem is when the inquiry turned into name calling... it's really not worth that!

I dont want to go on and on, I just wanted to get these thoughts out there! I hope to see everyone out there this weekend at the Fahrenheit Fling!

-Heidi

Heidi, you're awesome for being the only one to post with a view from both sides.
As for the name calling, I apologize. I was in a defensive position because of the way comments are interpreted when they're in writing. Sue, you could have said something at the Tourney when you were "watching the whole thing". Jessica and I are relativley new players and Jessica asked the TD a question and she took his answer. She didn't know any different.
All that aside and burying the hatchet, Jess is looking forward to playing in the Pro division regardless of how the TD "Officially" places the division. Maybe someday she'll get a login for this silly board and I won't have to open my fat mouth anymore /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Before and during the awards, it didn't even occur to me what was taking place. Only, the next day when I saw the TD posting did I have a question. As Jess's cash didnt' flow down, I assumed she'd taken cash.

Unless you are going to Worlds, it isn't a big deal. And as long as our ratings are under 850, you can still play FW!.

Someone took cash in a pro division in this PDGA sanctioned tournament, and is now attending AMATEUR Worlds and competing as an amateur??? And the TD of the Shreveport tourney is intentionally not reporting the tournament results so that this new Pro can compete in Am Worlds??? Is that what is going on here that you guys want to hint at?

Yet you guys only want to "kind of" bring it up without really bringing it up? What a bunch of friggin' wimps. Either shut the hell up and be party to the conspiracy or else speak up say something about it, and name names.

he can and will be DQ'd from Am worlds if he took the cash.

It does not matter if the TD report is turned in late, it just means he will be DQ'd and any prizes/trophies will be forfeited.

Of course, the TD could just refund all the players there PDGA fees and thereby unsanctioning the tournament.

What was he thinking.

Am Worlds being held this month is not the 2006 Am Worlds, it is the 2007 Am Worlds. After the tournament, several players will go pro.
