What I meant by split flights is instead of using 2 courses, you have one flight start at 9am, then the next flight start when they get off the course. Most summer tournament were run like that in the old days.
Shoot, the CCCC (Carrollton Charity Cup Classic) ran 3 flights on 2 courses and held several records for attendants back in the day. My wife won Am Women one year with 17 Am women playing.

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt

What grinds my gears: (aside from forgetting to clutch before shifting) searching "John Edwards" on youtube and seeing 750,000+ hits on that stupid video of him fixing his hair. I wonder how many full-time staffers Hillary's campaign (or any of the Republicans, cuz you know they're all chompin' at the bit to have the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with HillBill in the general) clickin' on that thing over and over and over again.

Ha, I have seen that one :D My favorite YouTube is Gravel named ROCK.
What gets me is people who make videos or post things about Ron Paul that are not true. (ReallyRick and Waren25... are just two video makers)
It also kills me when a 9/11 truther or white supremacist makes a pro Paul video.

speaking of Ron Paul, why is he the only presidential candidate from the party of "less taxes, more freedom" who actually opposes the "war on drugs". also, why don't any of our "liberal" candidates for president oppose it?
i don't know what's a bigger failure iraq or the war on drugs.

People who pull out and force you to swerve around them to avoid hitting them in a location where their car already has accident damage...

Here's one that isn't intuitive. People who stop when firetrucks or ambulances come up behind them. Everyone does this and they all think they're doing the right thing. Read your drivers manual. What that publication tells you to do is to keep driving, but to move to the side. Don't stop! That immediately causes a traffic jam that slows the emergency vehicle down!
Lyle O Ross
Jul 06 2007, 03:03 PM
Goes to show you what I know:
545.156 - VEHICLE APPROACHED BY AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE
(a) On the immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle using audible and visual signals..., or of a police vehicle lawfully using only an audible signal, an operator, unless otherwise directed by a police officer, shall:
(1) yield the right-of-way;
(2) immediately drive to a position parallel to and as close as possible to the right-hand edge or curb of the roadway clear of any intersection; and
(3) stop and remain standing until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed.
(b) This section does not exempt the operator of an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons using the highway.
Thanks Laura Q!
BTW - I still hate this law. I see it all the time, pulling over to the side, especially on two lane roads slows the emergency vehicle down and makes the situation worse.
People who think they know the law.....

# 1 - parking tickets when I'm either NOT illegally parked or it is with such an obscure definition of the law that it forces me to carry a printout of the parking/driving laws with me so that I'm prepared to go to traffic court to fight a ticket any afternoon;
# 2 - paying to park to go to work. You should not have to pay to park to go to work. Free parking should be provided. I used to park free in a large parking lot downtown until the new Radio Shack headquarters took it away. Then, I rode the bus until I moved close to work, and no bus comes directly from my neighborhood to downtown. Then, I rode my bike to work until I got pregnant. Now, I pay to park. Hopefully, I will be able to ride my bike to work again soon, if the rain stops, I get a new bike, I get caught up at work, and my son starts sleeping every night through again...darn teething. I guess we forget how painful it is to have a tooth push through. I also get a little nervous when passing the homeless people on a bike in the twilight hours of the morning. However, I have found homeless people to be some of the nicest and most helpful people in the world. (I just had an idea. They really should have a take a homeless person to work day.) Which I guess leads to . . .
# 3 - not enough respect to our fellow man...whether homeless, of another color, of another sexual orientation, or whatever other means is different than the accepted norm of society. We need to learn to love each other. Come on brother, let's all get together and learn to love one another. Who sang that?
BTW, I always thought that when your gears were grinding it meant you were thinking hard about something, not that you were upset by something. My grandmother used to use the saying, "I can hear your gears grinding." Maybe it was just a familyi thing.

LOL - My wife is a doctor and she has to pay to park to go to work in a parking system controlled by a private organization that serves public hospitals.
The hospitals are teaching hospitals that utilize residents at a high level. Basically, residents are slave labor in the medical system. They have to pay $75 a month to come in and work 12 to 18 hours a day. When my wife got hired as an attending, they doubled her parking fee. Too funny!

Hey Laura, " Grind My Gears " I kind of stole that from the
popular " Family Guy " cartoon. There was an episode where
Peter Griffin ( the father ) hosted a public broadcast called " Ya know what really grinds my gears " more or less a rant and rave show....... It was funny, you really have to be a fan of the show to appreciate the humor in it .
Sadly enough, nobody picked up on that . I guess I spend too much time watching Family Guy....

I thought it was because you work on cars. :D
Sometimes Ian acts so much like he is thinking like Stewey, it is scary.
Whatever reason you used the phrase and whatever the meaing, I still enjoyed the memory it brought back of my grandmother. I never thought of us as being that close. She died around 15 years ago, and in the last 10 years certain things, usually her sayings or the taste of her cooking, come to the front of my memory as vivid as if she were here.
