if you are 40 or over, why would you choose the Wildcat Hollow Open over the Masters at Idlewild?

Here are the comments Peter Shive had regarding Idlewild:

Idlewild amazed me. It is now one of my favorite courses, perhaps even THE favorite course, of all time. It has everything going for it -- topography, water, well-groomed trees and vegetation, and very intellegent hole design (including alterante pins and tees). It is also just a beautiful place to be, and the club has installed the necessary construction elements (bridges, buttresses, etc) in complete harmony with the natural setting. It makes you use every shot you are capable of throwing, but it doesn't need any yellow rope or other artificial elements to make you do it. When you think about the amount of forethought and effort it takes to build a course like that, you realize that it is a great privilege to play there.

I expect that courses like Idlewild (I think of them as the "par 72" courses) are an indication of the direction that disc golf is heading. We will always need plenty of the "par 54" type courses, because newbies are our lifeblood, and Idlewild would intimidate and dishearten most beginners. But the Idlewild-like courses will become our crown jewels.

I wish this was a couple of weeks earlier or later in the schedule. The disc golf/ball golf challenge was a BLAST last year! I would love to do that again!

Maybe next year! Too close to worlds this year.

You guys have fun!

i just updated the pre-registered list. Jerry you were #5. Fred hinted that if the number of participants stays low, everyone may cash. Looks like the Pro Worlds timing will keep many Masters from attending this year. It still looks to be a great event and the added ca$h is nothing to sneeze about ;)

Here are a few photos of Idlewild I took during the KY State Disc Golf Championships this past June. The course looked fantastic, as usual! Course designer, Fred Salaz, and the "Adopt~A~Hole" sponsors at Idlewild do an amazing job with course maintenance and beautification of this challenging par-72 design. It is absolutely one of the nicest disc golf courses on the planet.

Thanks to Fred and the Idlewild gang for a great masters tournament! The course looked fantastic as usual. I was here in June and since then, additional work has been done including the addition of an island green across the creek on hole 11. This magical place just keeps getting better and better... :)

Good luck at worlds Bob, Rob and Freddy!
