There is a new course in Reidsville, NC. This comes after the disappointing news that Barber Park of Greensboro will be closed after they found chemicals in the soil.

The new Reidsville course will have its ribbon cut at 10 am on Friday June 22 at the Lake Reidsville Recreation Park. They brought in good designers from Innova to design the layout and I here it is a good one. Further information will come. I will post something after going to the ribbon cutting this Friday...Gotta love NC disc golf. ;)

Reidsville has out done themselves. A group of us attended the ribbon cutting this morning and I was blown back by the course and the hospitality.

The course is wicked crazy nice. Holes over water, holes through gaps, par 5s, 4s, 600 ft holes that you can bomb. It has it all. Russell has out done himself.

Everyone needs to go and play this course. There is a $2 per car fee to enter the park, but it is well worth it.

What Tyson said ^^^^^

The course is amazing! My wife and I played and loved it. Well worth the drive. The course makes great use of elevation available. Concrete pads, tee signs, and ample fairways. A must play.

My best shot of the day was a park job on 9? maybe 10? The hole that tees from the road, with a wide grass fairway that narrows to a tight gap with the basket about 90 feet into the woods. The hole length is @ 362 feet, and tees from the exercise equipment.

We saw 2 painted turtles laying eggs during our round. :)

I contatced the people at Lake Reidsville, NC and they said that they are doing some finishing touches to the course but you can still play. They will be finished with the final details by July 4. Their disc shop should be opend soon so you can buy or rent your discs.

I witnessed the 1st ace on the Reidsville course by JEREMY LOCKE, pro disc golfer of Winston Salem. It was hole #6 an uphill hyser 250 ft or so with overhanging branches. Jeremy threw it low and hard and skipped it straight in off the steep slope.

Other witnesses were John Glenn and my son David.

BTW, though this is not an easy hole by any stretch, Jeremy's ace "busted" our otherwise * frame of birdies with putts of about 35, 40 and 50 feet.

This is one great course! Maybe the best course overall I have ever played. Here are the reasons I see

1. Great design - Russell Schwartz/ Innova designed it. The course is what I'd call a 3rd generation course meaning the par is well over 54 - SSA probably in the neighborhood of 64. Very beautiful use of woods, elevation changes and lakes. Difficult but fair majority wooded faiways giving the opportunity for a birdie with excellent play, but punishing bad play. Reminds me of a nicer Buckhorn or even more so, a bit shorter Charlotte's web (without the elevated baskets).

2. Top notch construction by Innova. Beautful large concrete tee pads on each hole. Brand new bridges all over the course for stream and lake crossings. Stairs and erosion control ties where needed. Mulch around all concrete pads even planted with flowers on hole #1. Brand new Innova baskets throughout.

3. Top notch facility. There is a clubhouse open all the time that stocks food, beverages, discs and bags, fishing and camping equipment and more - 50 feet from #1's teepad!!! The woman who runs it loves disc golfers. They are already talking about putting on a tournament. There is camping yards from the course a lake for fishing and swimming and a playground for kids all within yards of hole #1, but safely away from the entire course.

The women who run the clubhouse say the interest there has far exceeded their expectations, and the number of out of town players showing up there is amazing. The course was literally full of players today only one week after opening.



This would be a great choice for a NT event and is close to Piedmont Triad International Airport and Greensboro/Winston Salem area and both I40 and I85.

Kudos to Reidsville parks and Rec. Innova, and Russell Schwartz

Nice review buddy. There is one thing I forgot to mention, when Mandy and I stopped and talked to the ever gracious ladies in the shop, I asked about night golf. They happily replied that if we were to camp overnight, the course would be open for night golf.

Crazy man, night golf on that course.... would have to be a near full moon.

Give me a shout next time you guys go to play, I'd love to join you.

Saw your van out there yesterday Doc Wiggins. TJ and I went to Danville and Reidsville. What did you and Jr. shoot? I did well with a 63 yesterday...my best score yet. Got a 3 on par 5 #10! It would of been a great round but a doubled a par 3 on the back 9.
I think anything in the 50s is a hot round at a tourney!
If the lady wants me to run a monthly on a Saturday or a Saturday singles, I would be down...Did you get any contact info. I will call up there to see what I can find out.

lost count on the score ;-) I'd definitely be there for a monthly or even weekly depending on the consensus. It really is a great course, and having the clubhouse there makes it sweet. I think I have seen the future of disc golf courses at Reidsville.

Riedsville's a challenging course. I played it last week. I would say it is a par 57 course for pro players with holes 3, 10, and 12 being par fours. Course pars are marked for rec players. Hole 2 is one of the nicest wooded holes I've ever seen in my life. Here's my round which I shot blind with no warm-up shots.

Yes, I got a three on twelve! I pured a backhand down to the big bridge, threw a sidearm over the basket (and the backhoe) and then canned a 30 foot sidearm putt through the absolute shule from behind the basket.

Yes, after thinking about it, I'd have to agree with you. The SSA is probably more where you say it is. As amatter of fact, since your player rating is exactly 1000, I'd say for now at least, the SSA is exactly 57 ;-)

How far is Bedford from Reidsville, I am thinking about coming up for the single day event on July 21. Also I heard the event will be at a private course, any info on it.

Nice 3 on 12, I had a 4 with a 50+ foot jump-putt.

About 1:45 from the course. The Big Branch Open is played on a private temporary course on my family's cattle farm. Big Branch is a par 59 course, mostly open, with three sets of tees. There is more information about the tournament at the link in my signature. You're welcome to come. Bring a whole slew of NCians with you. Ontario rocs in the players pack. I would like to report that Reidsville's 1st tourney was a giant success.

We had 15 players show up to a sloppy and wet course ready to play some good ol' disc golf. Thanks to Reidsville Park and Rec for showing up early to help clean the course up and make sure all tee pads were cleaned. Also thanks for the free Gatorades and Water out on the course.

There were 7 teams and one Cali player, with 4 teams recieveing a payout.

I will post full tournament results tonight.

I played Reidsville yesterday. Did you really mean hole 2 or is that a typo and you meant to say hole 12? Hole 2 is nice, but average. Hole 12 is much better and way more interesting with very good elevation changes.

Are the creeks OB or casual? What about the creek on 1 that may only be dry due to the drought?

I LOVE the creek in the fairway on your drive on 18! What a scenic and unique layout, even though I went in the water twice. That drive is one of the coolest in NC. I'd like to know, though, if my score on 18 has 2 circles added or not.

Most of the creeks at Reidsville are out of bounds. There are a few holes that the creek is nothing more than a puddle (like holes 3 and 4...you get casual relief from the puddle), but on the rest of the course we generally play if your disc is surrounded by water, then it is ob.

There is a woman in the office/store named Charlene, she will usually will print out a copy of the ob's on the course that we use for any tourament play (I printed them up and saved them for her on her computer).

Some of the other ob's we play are asphalt and gravel roads on every hole expect 10. Hole 7 we play inside the service (gated) area, hole 7 also has the gravel road that runs to the service area and behind the pin placement are ob. You can throw over the service area (no mando) but have the land and rest inbounds, which makes for another interesting hole.

I like 16.



I loved hole 16 from the Pro tee, where you drive over the water. To me, any shot with water in play is a winner.

Two rounds of Doubles is done like this...

Seperate the turn out into 2 pools A and B by ability, randomly draw teams and play round 1.

The high scorer from Round 1 in pool A is paired with the low scorer in pool B for Round 2.

After two rounds the person that has the lowest score for both rounds wins.

Sounds confussing, but it is easy to accomplish.

My buddy just got into the woods on the right halfway and thummered the rest of the way though the woods to get a 4. Really have to play for a 3...That is it.

A staight to hyzer shot through the bend to the waters edge and then a back hand up shot for a 3.

Par on this hole is almost a 3.5, but I have seen a lefty take a mean anny "S" shot through the woods to the basket for a 20 foot birdie putt. I guess for your best shot at getting a birdie is to either throw lefty or flick an overstable disc fast with a anny release and hope to hit your gap.

Hole #14 is going to get some work and #15 will probably have a few trees taken out as well. The course is less than 6 months old, so these are just minor growing pains.

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know we have a bunch of prizes lined up for this event.

We will be providing lunch and you will be guaranteed a great time.

Some of the prizes include, lots of discs (a lot), shirts and other items from Jagermeister, a pair of tickets to the Wake Forest/Maryland game at Wake on Thursday (probably do something special to give these away), $10 gift certificates to some food joints, and plenty of other prizes.

Please do let us have more prizes than people.

We will have all types of Innova Plastic available, you get a dx disc for with the tourney entry or you can pay $3 extra for Pro plastic or $7 dollars extra for Star/Champion plastic.

I am telling you this will be a great event, prizes for all winners...come one, come all. If you plan on being there, bring someone; females are always welcome, so bring them...bring you dog (we don't care).

Try and get there before 9:30 - 9:45am, as we are trying to get going as early as possible and would like to tee at 10am. We will get a good "number" of people participating in the event and send our volunteers (they are not playing in singles) out to get lunch, once we know how many to expect.

You in Virginia and wondering if the NC boys can hang, bring it! We will show you a great time!

Thanks to all those that braved the weather and came out last night.

We had to call the match after 12 holes due to an awesome lightening storm that came through.

Eric Kirby and Tim Doyle shot a hot -3 on their first 9 holes to take the win, several other teams tied for 2nd at even par.
