They are the handful of Rogues that are run between the material change in the injection molding machines. It's a mix of the Pro Line blend and the Sparkle plastic. "Pearlescent" would be a better description, but I used the term the DGA boys used at the FlyMart.

I picked up two from Mike yesterday and took them out to the Red Hawk course to do some testing. I throw normal Rogues as my main distance drivers. I feel like the Sparkle Z Rogue was a bit faster than the standard version. It flew better on a lower line and finished with a little more defined fade. During the high speed portion of its flight it flew very much like the other version. All and all it is everything I love about the Rogue in more durable (and pretty) plastic. The two I bought are pretty stiff like Sparkle Tsunamis, most the others Mike had are just a little bit softer. The hybrid Rogues he had were really sweet, a lot like the first run Beast and Monster pearlescent Champion plastic. I would have bought one, but they were a little light for me.

Sounds just like I want it too !

Steep prices. That's what many others charge for Inn-color.

They're fundraisers for our tournament. If you don't want to support it that's fine, but don't knock the price as they fall in line with typical fundraising prices. Not to mention that we're the first to get the SB Wraiths and that Pro Line Gremlins typically fetch upto $40 on eBay.

Relax, it's nothing personaI, I was just stating my opinion.

Let me preface the following papragraph by saying it is to be read as an objective viewpoint and not in an angry tone (as some folks have a tendency to do after becoming upset or offended). Unfortunately, this happens with many e-mails and posts and things can get carried away becuase you cannot "hear" the tone of voice that it was written in, only the "voice" you read it in.

Disc Golf Values has (in my opinion) a completely unfair advantage over other promoters and retailers as Mark works directly for Innova. In turn, DGV retails their CFR discs at the lowest minimum price that is mandated by the Innova distributor agreement (although technically they are not an authorized Innova distributor, only a retailer). If you read the suggested prices in the CFR Program details at the Innova website, you'll see $20-$40. I think Mark (and Innova) are doing the rest of us that use the CFR Program a great disservice by low balling the retail price of their own fundraiser discs. I'm also limited on how many discs I can purchase for an event, thus I have to maximize my fundraising efforts by keeping my prices a little bit higher than DGV does. Does DGV play by the same rules? I don't know, maybe that's why their price is lower, because they can make as many as they want...

Most companies give their employees some type of "insider" benefits, but not to the point that it has a direct effect on that companies' customers or retailers. Imagine if EA Sports let it's employees buy, and then sell, Madden Football before any of their biggest customers had a chance to. Best Buy, etc. would be floored and would probably take some type of legal action as they've commited millions of dollars to purchase these games and other games by EA, yet the employees have the distinct advantage and impacts the sales of Best Buy, etc. Imagine if there were different versions of Madden Football, some with all kinds of cool extras and then just a regular version. In this scenario, the employees get to pick through all the "loaded versions" before any of the customers even know it exists.

Just something to think about...

The tournaments do not get "extra" discs just because DGV is selling them. Do you know for a fact that he doesn't get more discs than other tournaments? Doubtful. Mike at Sun King does more for this sport than 99% of the people on this MB. Without him, you wouldnt have the Disc Golf Cruise or the Players Cup Major, just to name a few things. He's a good guy and he would never try to rip anyone off by jacking up prices. Every event or vendor I know of at least does sell the cfr discs at the suggested cfr innova guidelines.

I have purchased items from Sun King and DGV both are excellent vendors for the sport helping it grow in many ways.

I never said anything about Mark's time and effort, to which I'm sure he should be applauded. It's the pricing and business practices that I'm concerned with. Because Mark is an employee and Innova let's him "purchase" whatever he wants prior to other wholesaler/retailers is a distinct advantage that nobody else has. It's the same with ZoneDriven, whenever an online order comes through, they don't have a seperate warehouse, they just pull it from the Innova East stock. Everybody else has to place an order, wait for their product to ship and then wait for it to arrive.

Again, I don't dislike Mark, I dislike the way Mark and Innova do business.

Mark does not get ANY CFR discs. CFR discs are reserved for events. Mark is not an event, he simply sells the discs for events and the proceeds go to the events. The events get the discs for the same CFR price as every other event in the quantities outlined by the CFR program.

I know Mark isn't a tournament, I never said he was. I'm satisfied with her answer and I believe Suzette that Mark doesn't receive any special pricing or extra discs. But you have to admit she also has a biased point of view (that's not a bad thing, just reality). I still don't like the fact that DGV and ZD have distinct advantages over the other promoters and retailers.

To stay on topic, I suggest that this particular discussion moves elsewhere as it has nothing to do with new product arriving at our storefront/warehouse.

The (4) Pro Line (Champion) Gremlins that I have here all have the bead. I suspect that the ones arriving later this week will match the "beadless" mold that we got in with our CFR Star Gremlins a couple of months ago.

According to the "in-stock" quantities on the Sun King website, it looks as if the fundraiser discs are not selling very well for the tournament they just had.
[whisper voice]Maybe they would raise more money, (i.e. sell more CFR discs) if the prices were lower.[/whisper voice]
I know there are several of those CFRs I would buy if they were cheaper. It's hard for me to justify $20-25 for discs that I might see for $16-18 in a month for another tournament.
Let us know if the prices drop on the CFRs for the tournament that just ended or the one that is this weekend.

The inventories need to be adjusted to reflect the sales from this weekend...the only one that's being dropped is the Champion Gremlin, it seems as if the demand has dropped a bit.

Hey Puckheads!

I'm looking for anyone interested in playing in a fairly comprehensive Fantasy Hockey league. The past several years we've used Yahoo! but I've never liked it's available formats (no Head to Head Fantasy style). The only place that allows full customization is a site I found years ago...TQStats.com. The scoring system I prefer is just like fantasy football uses. Goals, assists, etc. have values and you acrue points against an opponent and play one "game" a week from Monday through Sunday.

TQ Stats charges $99 for the year and I'm thinking of doing 12-16 teams at $20 each allowing for some pretty good payout at the end. As usual we will do payout in Sun King vouchers to make it all legal (I always add "cash" to raise the payout).

Hi mike - have you watched the Clubless DVD? I'm curious if my son and I made it into the film. We were on our way out of Milwaukee after Am Worlds last year and stopped at UW Parkside to play the course. The Clubless crew wanted to keep us from playing, as they had gotten permission from the school to film and close the course. The only way they'd let us play is if we signed a release and let them film us playing the first hole. I ain't never been in a movie before, so that'd be sweet if we made the cut.

Hey Mike,

This is kind of off topic, but I have a burning curiousity. Is Brooksville really as cold as it says on the news every morning? Like this morning it was 52 here in Clearwater and similar in all other cities with it being about 5-10 degrees cooler inland. Brooksville was listed at 32. Each morning it is similar, with Brooksville being 15-20 degrees cooler than us and 5-10 degrees cooler than the rest of central FL. Is it really this cold or is something skewing the numbers? Just a curious science teacher...thanks Mike

Tennessee...more like Chicago some nights! Twice since I've moved to Florida, Brooksville has been the COLDEST city in the US during the winter. There seems to be a line right at the Pasco/Hernando county border in which the temp just drops 5-10 degrees when heading north...strange stuff, but I like to think it keeps us honest.

They do but I was told in 04' its only local guys in FL and maybe NC.

If your an online store, Why not sponsor players around the US. Its better marketing to be all around. especially in states where there are other internet stores, Local players already know about you in your home town.
?? Your name would grow in Texas if you had players playing for your name in this state, the few guys who post here know your name, but more golfers would here about you.. and it saves on your traveling budget if you had sponsored players in diff states that represent you at tournys, your name is represented at places with out you having to physically be there? does'nt that make business sense???
Then as a whole if online stores where doing this, it grows our sport because there are more sponsored players, then more touring pros, then bigger tournys....domino effect, See?? Does any body see how this can help ???

I think one of disc golf problems is we are a bunch of guys being local, thinking local. If disc people would think and act more collective...we could and would grow more exponentially..
Case and point , look a Jay and HUK lab, he got out and drove everywhere and met faces and contacts everywhere, he may not be big, but he grew faster and quicker in 3 years than most other disc companies have done.

I think one of disc golf problems is we are a bunch of guys being local, thinking local. If disc people would think and act more collective...we could and would grow more exponentially...

Case and point , look a Jay and HUK lab, he got out and drove everywhere and met faces and contacts everywhere, he may not be big, but he grew faster and quicker in 3 years than most other disc companies have done.



I'm not sure if you're referring to us (Sun King Disc Sports) or just disc golfers in general. If you're talking about typical local disc golfers, then I would agree in a general consensus with your statement. If you're referring to us, we've done plenty of national projects including the Players Cup/Red Hawk Ams, Bowling Green, Memorial, Course TD at the last 3 Worlds, Disc Golf Cruise...let's just say that we've shook a lot of hands over the last 8 years.

Jay has primarily grown his business by creating a fashionably smart clothing line that stands out from all the other typical disc golf clothing available. By working with huk dealers like ourselves, he has then set up a somewhat fluid network that essentially creates "national visibility".

We have examined the Team Sun King concept over the past several years and will be making some dramatic changes in early 2009. Originally designed to saturate the Florida market, it has kind of grown into a bit of a monster. Players move, some don't play as much as they used to or stop playing altogether and it became increasingly difficult to manage not only the members, but also the primary reason for starting the team was lost along the way. It's basically becomes a full time job, just ask Sam Ferrans...

I've got no problem sponsoring players outside of Florida, in fact some of first players were from Kentucky and North Carolina. But I knew these players personally or had at least met them a few times and had conversations. That is mandatory before we put our name on anyones back and it's also the primary reason we don't have more players outside of Florida...we don't know who they are or we don't know them personally.

Finally, when you boil it down, sponsoring players is done to create more visibility to then sell more golf discs. If someone approached us with a comprehensive strategic plan to form a partnership that included some type of sponsorship, we would be more than happy to consider it, but we're really not interested in paying a bunch of entry fees so that somebody wears our shirt or hat.

I am understanding that it takes alot of work to manage sponsored players, especially some of the "high maintanance" pros players i know! And from a business mans perspective, yes i would want to know the character of the person that is wearing my brand. All good points, yet i would love to see more stores sponsoring players as they can offer mix-bagged sponsorship. But i do see your perspective.

I guess the conversation is kaput, but Mike, you dont have to offer sponsored players entry fees. My sponsor, PoorBoyDiscs, offers me free PBD merchandise, and wholesale prices on discs.

Also, when it comes to character, you can ask for letters (plural) of recommendation. Limit your sponsorships to say 10-20 in 2009 and go from there to decide whether or not to continue the deal.

Also, make your players meet a sales quota for the quarter that is mandatory, but offer a commission so they'll have an incentive to sale, and dont necessarily limit yourself to pros.

At least that's what I would do, but just my opinion.

I used the payment of entry fees as an example, as that's what most pro players ask us for. We've been offering wholesale discs and free gear to our team from the very beginning and we we're also paying out merchandise vouchers if they cashed. The problem was that most of our team members aren't actually generating sales or creating opportunities to expose our company beyond wearing a shirt or hat. As previously mentioned, we will be changing our team requirements for 2009, but at the same time expand our offer beyond Florida. Again, if anyone would like to offer up a sponsorship plan until then, we're all ears...

Im in sales, so ill think of ideas. DiscGolf is not the easiest thing to sale, as it is not main stream and kind-cultish. But the only thing that has come to my mind is; Sponsor a player with wholesale or voucher, but all the Disc that they get from you would have SUN KING stamped on them. I would throw all my disc with Sun King on them, thats good marketing. I often give guys disc and help player s out on the course, so having your name would promote yourself here in Texas.
Do you stamp Disc regularly with your Name? Is that something that would be easy to do?
And of Course I know most of the TD's so i could sport your Banner at Local Tourny's and you could send the TD a tourny package?? Does that promote you?

Yes it's true, the Dogobie, by far, is our #1 selling item. We're not really sure how it happened, but all of the Aerobie products sell extremely well for us. In fact, the slowest movers are the Aerobie golf discs except the Epic. The main thing to consider is that folks that buy Aerobie products typically buy multiples of the same product, whereas disc golfers typically buy one each of several different models.
