The Tahoe open is a month away. Anybody know where I can find out some info on this one?

i emailed steve ganz back in the beginning of april, he forwarded me to Russ Wey at: discnpurpletiedyes@charter.net who did not respond to my email request for info on this tourney. i believe they are concerned over neal Hoellworths quadruple bypass surgery he had at the end of march, who is the tournament director. and rightly so since neals health is more important than a disc golf tournament. if you find out anything can you post it here?

The flyer is now posted at: http://www.norcalseries.com/schedule.html (NorCal rocks!)

Mr. Neal replied to my email about the Tahoe Pro/am and told me he would contact the TD, and it postd the next day!

The Flyer lists Matt as a contact at (530)577-3111 and Ken Morgan as the person to send your reg' to, I'm not sure who the TD is, but I'm sure Mr Neal is not the TD.... But he is back on his feet and doing great. We all got to see him at the KOA Pro/Am Jam :D

Great news on Neal's improving health.

All we need now is the pre-reg list posted. :)

Yes it is.... :D

He was at the KOA Jam doing his normal routine with the NorCal trailer and all.... :D

It was great to see him.... I think he will be at the Tahoe Pro/Am with the trailer for script payouts... Lots of plastic to choose from :D

Messages and no responses. Any idea if there'll be day-of registration? Prices for Pro Open and Recreational Women? How much golf played each day? Thanks.

I don't know what's going on in Tahoe that week but hotel prices are outrageous. Is it the Celebrity Pro Am?

Jun 17 2007, 01:54 PM
The pro-am ball golf thing at Edgewood is the next weekend. The 4th of July with the reportedly awesome fireworks over the lake is a couple of days before. Plus, it's summer in Tahoe.

Only about 35 spots left
Not sure in which divisions... Call the TD for accurate info...
530-577-3111 or 484-695-7000
Ken or Matt

We ended up paying through the nose for a room, but found a condo type one with that sleeps 3 with a separate sleeping room and a kitchenette on the NV. side :D

Lets go lucky 7's ;) Game on in 16 days!!

Our prayers go out to the people and the fire fighters in South lake Tahoe.

rhett
Jun 25 2007, 04:28 PM
If this fire gets put out and we somehow still get to have a tournament, I'd like to recommend that we all (as in everybody in every division) play for PDGA points and no payout, and donate all payout money and "money that would've bought payout merch" to the soon-to-be-created Disaster Relief Fund for the area.

We had this type of firestorm happen down here a couple of years ago, and it's bad news for the families from the "220+ and counting" lost homes up there. If we're lucky enough to have a tourney, we should do something for the community.

Rhett, thank you for saying what needed to be said. I support the idea 100%.

I talked to Matt yesterday and he said that is was OK if I passed on this information....

The Tahoe Pro/Am at this point is on. He said the fire was about 40% contained and should be under control by Sunday and expects that by next week the roads will be open. I'm sure if anything changes we will get the news in time.

He also said that the proceeds of the event will now benefit the fire victims instead of Hep-C.

My family is planning on making an additional donation and will be bringing a care package to drop by one the stations set up in the area or to give to a golfer in need when we get there. People will need things like blankets, pillows, warm clothes, bottled water, diapers, canned foods, baby food, etc.

If you are going to this event I would suggest you consider bringing along something like this. Many of the victims of this fire are also registered in this event and you could probably just hand over a care package to someone during the event...

Ken emailed me that this event is on....

The fire is 70% contained!!! :) :) :)

Let's show the South Lake Tahoe community what the disc golf community is all about and show our support by bringing our smiling faces and some care packages for those in need..... :)

See you all up there in one week! :D

This tourney is currently a fundraiser for Hep-C research, but Mike Corbett has taken it to another level according to the Tracy Press. He'll be bringing a van and trailer filled with donated items from the community of Tracy. The fire victims in Lake Tahoe will benefit nicely from the generous gifts. Give Mike his props when you see him at the tourney.

Matt Egan and anyone that helped did a great job with this tourney. There were some time isssues, but when you consider what they were trying to do, it went great. They fed us both days, they moved baskets 3 times, they had cold water stations in three different course locations, they had doughnuts and juice Saturday for breakfast, fresh fruit, video and still pictures of the players running after each round, Mr. Neal and his trailer, player's package T shirts, a raffle and local Tahoe charities benefitted too. I really should have said it at the tourney (I'll call Matt and tell him personally) but the only thing on my mind was the long drive home. Good job Tahoe! Other TDs could learn a lot you. Oh, and Barsby won.

I agree with that 100%, and although the rounds were extremely long and scores very high.. the groups I played in were very patient, had great attitudes and had lots of fun. :D Thanks to the people of Tracy CA, and Mike Corbet and every else who donated much needed supplies and made contributions to the Angora fire victims! Way to go! :DWe will be back next year......

Was the weather really hot, or were the courses especially challenging?

I see that close to 10% of the field did not even finish the tournament.

mbohn
Jul 11 2007, 12:13 PM
The course layouts were all very long... On most of the holes one could pretty much forget about getting any birdies. With that in mind, maybe players just got overwhelmed with the situation and gave up... I only had two birds the whole weekend. But who knows...

Due to initial miscalculations, all Open players that finished in the money will be receiving an additional amount to their payout. The amount will be the difference between what is reported (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6663) and the amount that they received. Players can see Mr. Neal at any NorCal Series event for direct payment or email mrnealh@comcast.net to request a check.

What layouts were played? I stopped by on Friday before teh tourney and they positions SEEMED to be in the "hardest" layout for the most part. I shot a +3 on the 27 holes with a JLS, a Buzzz and a Cobra (I packed light), and I felt very good about it. I was just wondering how that rough score would have stacked up. Was that the first layout played?

Sorry I missed it. Hopefully in future I'll be there.

mbohn
Jul 13 2007, 08:27 PM
Yes... It was the 1st round layout. I shot a nice and tidy 5 up on a practice, but plummeted during the real deal... The 2nd round layout was the easiest by far and the third the hardest and even longer than round one!! A three up would have been nice, but with the pace of the rounds you never know if you would have shot that... Seems like everyone I talked to mentioned they did good in practice and bad in the event.... Alot of cooling off was going on

That lay-out was the first round, which is almost the longest set up, so it made for a long morning. The afternoon was in medium placements, but we didn't finish til dark. (5 hour rounds). That was tough.

Despite that long day, hats off to Matt and crew for a well organized event. The event ran pretty much as planned. Lunch was provided both days and plenty of water through the course. Well done.

Props to Matt and Ken and Neal and all the others that were helping them out. The course was set up super tough for all three rounds, too tough for a decent flow on Saturday IMHO, but everything else ran really smoothly and everythign was in great order by the staff. They did a great job! :)

The high number of DNFs were augmented by one knee out-of-joint-popping (Brian Costa) and one heat exhaustion with about 4 holes to go (Yvonne Jamison). I know I really lost focus and interest when the first 9 holes of the 2nd round Saturday took over 2 hours, so maybe some of the DNFers thought enough was enough with that. We were at the course from 7:00 AM (to get a good parking spot and warm up) until 9:00 PM Saturday (add up scorecards and bail right away for dinner). The funny thing was that the round on Sunday was the longest layout but took the shortest amount of time of all three rounds.

It was a blast as always. Thank you very much to Matt and Ken for stepping up to make the tourney happen, and doing a great job to boot! :D

Oh I can almost guarantee I wouldn't have shot +3 during tournament play. I played Friday blind (on several occasions I just threw where I *assumed* the basket would be) and I played with only three discs, two of which I'd never used before and I didn't have a putter.

With course knowledge and a complete bag, there's no WAY I would have shot that score! :D

mbohn
Jul 16 2007, 04:30 PM
LOL Fats... :eek:I wish I had the guts to do that sometime! Just hit the course on the day of the tourny with a small selection of discs and play it "natural"
It seems like I over analyze the shot and disc selection during the event

Rhett, It was great seeing you in person... :cool:Great shooting! Hope you have great "rest of the summer"........ Congrats on the Ace in Visalia :DCandy Viper? Who'd a thunk it.....
