Twenty-four players turned out for the first monthly tournament at Deer Lakes Park on March 26, 2007. The weather provided temperatures in the low 80's with a light wind of 6-8 mph. The course played a bit tougher as a few c-pin placements were used for the first time during this event. Congratulations to all the winners! :D

Nice shooting, Red!
Looks like 1 in the C position is just as challenging as we all thought it was going to be. Not a single birdie three on this true pro four.
Hole 3 must be growing in - there were a lot of scores of 6 and 7 on the par five.
Nice deuce on 4, Gotcha!
Is 8 still on the right close to the OB road? Looks like it isn't getting any deuces in that position.
That longest position on hole 9 must be really tough to access - not a single score of birdie 4 on the par five.
I guess you guys haven't moved the tees up on hole#10 yet? Still no scores of birdie 3 yet. :(
Dietzel with a three on hole#16! That's a sweet birdie.

Well now maybe someone will listen to me and move 8's Blue tee about 40 feet shorter. I have only seen 1 birdie on this hole ever!!!!!!!!!! and it was a 40 footer at least. It's just too far for a par 3.

The problem comes in that when playing to the 'B' pin position, the polehole lies close to a slight drop-off that leads down to an OB road. Even if golfers were consistently reaching the green on this very uphill par 3, it seems foolish to make a long run at deuce.
For the record, and I certainly include myself in this category, most of the golfers that are playing this hole and not deucing it are 'weenie arms.' As soon as the first tournament draws some strong competition in to play the course, I guarantee we will see a lot of players scoring twos on this hole. In the meantime, course designers might want to consider a shorter blue tee with the current placement reserved for tournament play.

Well, I try to dwell only on the positive, but since you asked, what kind of brainfart was that, Gotcher?!? :D

Last week I parked my Orc within 15' from the b-pin and proceeded to deuce it like I was Barbo! :D

Several baskets were moved at Deer Lakes today in preparation for the Monthly tournament this Saturday, June 23. We cleared the b-pin green on hole 4 so this weekend will be the first time most golfers see this placement. The same goes for hole 17 as we moved the basket deeper into the trees to c-pin. Here's the layout for Saturday:
1c 2a 3b 4b 5a 6b 7b 8b 9c 10b 11b 12c 13a 14a 15a 16a 17c 18a

Nice! That long pin position in the trees on hole#4 is gonna play sweet. Has hole#7 been placed in the C pin yet? I think I've only seen the current B spot and the A pin on the right closer to the pavilion. How about hole#10? I think I've only seen the B pin on that. The fast green around the C pin is gonna be deadly. Where's the C pin on hole#11? To the right of the A pin and closer to the OB? I'm still eagerly looking forward towards longer pin positions on hole#13. The B and C pins are needed to make this hole a true pro par 4, even from the blue tee. Hole#15 is another one where I'm looking forward to longer pin positions that will likely make the hole easier because it makes the water less in play. On the flip side, I hope you guys never move hole#14 or hole#16 from the A pin positions. Those holes are ber-challenging as they are!!!

Nice! That long pin position in the trees on hole#4 is gonna play sweet. Has hole#7 been placed in the C pin yet? I think I've only seen the current B spot and the A pin on the right closer to the pavilion. No, hole 7 c-pin green needs additional clearing. Once it's cleared, tee shots, approach shots and putts will all be very intimidating due to the back edge of that green that slopes down the hillside toward the parking lot. How about hole#10? I think I've only seen the B pin on that. The fast green around the C pin is gonna be deadly. We probably will not move 10's basket to the c-pin anytime soon due to the current tee situation. It's difficult enough to card a par 4 on that hole due to the upward slope of the tees. Once we've back-filled and created some level tees, however, I'm sure we'll be playing c-pin! Where's the C pin on hole#11? To the right of the A pin and closer to the OB? Yes, you are correct. The c-pin green needs clearing and we need to rope off the OB marsh/bog area behind the green. My understanding is that the park director is concerned about erosion on and around this green, thus, 10c will probably only be contested during tournament play. I'm still eagerly looking forward towards longer pin positions on hole#13. The B and C pins are needed to make this hole a true pro par 4, even from the blue tee. I concur. Right now, hole 13 to the a-pin plays as the easiest par 4 on the course and both b and c pins will bring the scoring average closer in line with the intended design. In fact, last night I joked with Dan and told him it's not too late for us to go back to the original design for the hole (I can't describe it, you'd have to see it). Hole#15 is another one where I'm looking forward to longer pin positions that will likely make the hole easier because it makes the water less in play. Your statement is half-true. The b-pin is further from the water's edge and is located to the right of the current a-pin and just inside the treeline on the hillside. C-pin has yet to be installed, but it will be to the left of green center and possibly closer to the water's edge than a-pin. The strip of land between the water and hillside is significantly less wide, thus, a tee shot intended for the pin will have a much greater risk/reward ratio. The smart play to c-pin will be to shoot for the green center (just left of a-pin) and plan to putt for the deuce. On the flip side, I hope you guys never move hole#14 or hole#16 from the A pin positions. Those holes are ber-challenging as they are!!! We will probably announce a work day (or weekend) on hole 14 following the PFDO. This hole needs a lot of work as it stands. Once it's said-and-done, Jeff, you'll be asking to play the b & c pins (I know you...)!

Jerry, I think you meant here that it's difficult enough to card a birdie three on hole#10. A par four is pretty easy on this hole but birdies are exceedingly difficult. In fact, I've not heard of a single one from the blue tee.

Jun 22 2007, 12:13 AM
You are correct, sir. I've only birdied it once out of all the rounds I've played. It will be a different story once we have a level teeing surface. The big anhyzer route will become more tempting once that happens... :p

Please note the pin placements are incorrect in the scoring tables posted above. The June 23 Deer Lakes Monthly had the following layout:

Wow, how did Josh Arnette score an eagle three on hole 9 in the C position? Was his second shot a roller that trickled all the way down to the polehole?
Looks like you got your second score of birdie 3 on hole#10 from the blue tee. Congrats, Jerry! :cool:But how in the world did you take a seven on hole#9?

Yes, Josh Arnette won the Eagle Pot with that 3 he scored on 9c from the blue tee. I'm not sure how he drove the green, but I know he put his second drive within 30' of the pin and nailed the putt for the eagle! As for my 7 on the same hole, let's just say I played the hole a bit differently than Josh... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You should know that Josh can chuck a disc 400 - 450, so two of those with a little luck getting through the trees at the end and bam, you got eagle 3

Wow, that is impressive. Most people I've played that hole with, myself certainly included, are just hoping to penetrate the treeline on the second shot from the blue tee.

Some of the best putts on the whole course is from on top of the cliff above 9C. I've got there in 2 a couple of times. I have yet to sink a putt from up there though. A 3 is pretty impressive.
Tee pads for 10 and 15 are in the works. We're kicking some ideas around and hope to put them in before the possible C-tier event on Sept. 29. Hole 14's first though.

We need a mando on hole 9. The first time I walked the course during the final design phase, I pointed out that players on the blue tee would throw shots to the top of the hill near hole 7's blue tee in order to take advantage of the downward elevation toward 9's fairway. J Gary countered that idea by declaring the hilltop OB for golfers on hole 9.
Well, that idea was put to the test last week during the Deer Lakes Monthly. Jeremiah attempted the blind annie over the top of the OB hill. His tee shot hit some foliage on the edge of the hillside and his disc landed in the tall rough about 25'-30' to the right of hole 7's blue tee. We couldn't find his disc so he had to re-tee with a one-stroke lost-disc penalty. That extra stroke didn't discourage him, however. His second blind-annie tee shot made it cleanly over the OB hilltop and he landed safely in hole 9's fairway.
This proves to me the OB hilltop design does not work for this hole. Golfers will still be tempted to blindly throw tee shots over the hilltop in attempt to clear the OB and land in either hole 7's or hole 9's fairway. This greatly endangers players on hole 7. No one on hole 7 is going to be looking backward for tee shots coming in from 9's blue tee. I can even envision errant tee shots from 9 which bring areas of hole 8 into play.
Solution? Install a mando to the left of hole 9's white tee which will prohibit shots over the hilltop.
I will go as far as stating we need to implement a second mandatory on hole 9 near the tree line. This second mando would prohibit players from executing shots which would play beside the pavilion as opposed to using the wooded corridor to the green. If we are planning to use the pavilion during tournament play, no mando on that treeline will result in many players throwing drives close to the pavilion in order to set up the putt Dan refers to in the quote above. You could designate the pavilion as OB, but like the hilltop on hole 7, this would not prohibit golfers from attempting to throw around or over the pavilion, possibly endangering staff, spectators or fellow competitors. A mandatory implemented on one of the trees would force players to play the wooded corridor to the green which was the original intent of the hole's design.
My two cents...

Although I agree with you completely with a mando from the blue tee, a mando alone at the tree line would not be enough to ensure the safety of officials and players during a tournament. There would have to be some kind of netting or something stretched across the trees in front of the pavillion in order to use the pavillion for tournament HQ. It just would not be safe enough without it. A mando still doesn't keep errant shots from heading into the pavillion from 9 or 7. Most of the time I ended up on top of the cliff, I played the shot to the right of the tree that would be the mando, and still ended up there anyways after chopping wood through that section. The location of 9C is going to draw players through the tight wooded section near 9B and shot are going to end up on top of the cliff. We'll definitely need to decide what we are going to do if we're going to have a tournament in sept. and we plan on using the pavillion.
It's still a cool putt. :p

A mandatory at the tree line would not eliminate all errant shots toward the pavilion, however, a mando would definitely eliminate the intentional shots toward the structure. If one misses the mando to the left, play the subsequent shot from a designated drop zone.
The cliff-putts would still come into play on this challenging green. A mando at the tree line on hole 9 would simply prevent the players from using the pavilion route as a way to obtain such a putt at c-pin. And, yes, it is a cool putt. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have to agree that the putt from the top of the cliff is cool. Dan told me it would be and it was. Btw, thanks Dan for basically giving me a guided tour during the monthly. It was a great way to be introduced to the course.
The pavilion is nicely situated for a tournament HQ (assuming the stray disc issue can be addressed). Is there an easy access point to the pavilion without crossing any of the fairways/greens?

There is a path/stairway from the Blue Gill parking lot that leads up to the pavilion (this pathway to the pavilion comes up the hill behind hole 7's green).

Okay, this makes a little more sense now. I know it was mentioned that some of these guys were big armed throwers, but it still seemed amazing to me that people were having looks at birdie 3 on hole 9c. From the discussion it seems obvious that people aren't throwing down the natural path /hyzer lane that goes past the A and B pins to the long C pin position - people are throwing just to the right of the pavilion, where there is some space between the pavilion and the trees. I hadn't considered that, and may just start throwing that route when playing to the C position.

that is not the best rout Jeff. I think people landing there are doing it on accident. Josh can crush a disc way farther than any of us here in the burgh. I'd say he could probably hit 500 feet with a good drive. Up to the left area has too many trees, and if you do end up up there, you have a crazy downhill putt. The natural path is still the way to go. Still though, with 2 great shots, I usually just barely make it into the pathway. I do have 1 3 recorded on B-pin, but none on the others.
It should be noted that my girlfriend got a 4 from the WHITE tees on that hole!!!!!!!! pretty **** good for only playing for 2 months. and she also got a 4 the first time she ever played Moraine on 18 from the BLUE TEES!!!! I took a double circle 7 :)

Just to make it clear, Josh's first shot on this hole landed next to the woods lining the right side of the fairway. He threw a little annie past the first section of trees then the disc hyzered back directly down the natural path towards the pin.
(Note: I did not see this happen but i played with him during the doubles round which is when he explained to me what happened)
Chris - Alanna would love to disc with more females, why doesn't your girlfriend come out during leagues and what not? Everytime we drive to the burgh to play with yinz Alanna always says, "I hope some females show up this time."

It's not always by accident - consider that Dan Sauers posted that he's gotten there in two a couple of times. How? Because he's left-handed! Knowing that this is the preferred route for lefties, I will definitely start taking this route since I can throw a backhand roller farther than any airshot, and since it's downhill, I'll aim to just miss the pavilion and hope it trickles down to the polehole.

I've seen a 55 from the whites. That makes me pretty certain that a good doubles group could easily shoot 50 or below as mentioned from the reds. not taking anything away from 14 down!

Oct 09 2007, 11:48 AM
yeah my -14 was singles :) I think a Timmy/Gotcher combo would shoot about a 47.
And oh yeah Deer Lakes is looking better. Got quite a few opinions on Deer Lakes this weekend at the River Bear from people who came to the Hunt. Was kinda interesting to hear what they had to say.

the 55 whites was Tom Moeller single. and I agree a good duo like Gotchermoney and Timmy or a few others would tear the DLDGC up from the reds. Maybe for doubles on the 27th Monthy?!? ;)
And dont leave us hanging, what did they say Dietz? As part of the DLDGC pride crew I'd like to hear any/all comments, good and bad.

It was mixed reviews. People thought it was hard and challenging. People liked a lot of the holes, but as an overall course the concensus was that there are a few holes keeping it from being a great course. Leroy said, "it was nice, but it's no Moraine".

I think Deer Lakes is almost every bit as good as Moraine. And if you heard the feedback from touring golfers after the last two PFDOs, they basically said the same thing: there are a few holes at Moraine that keep it from being a great course. They specifically do not like holes #4, #12, and #16 at Moraine. Interestingly, these are actually some of my favorite holes on the course.
Personally, I think the only weak hole at Deer Lakes is #8. I think every other single hole is like a different chapter in a book, and almost every one of them plays like no other holes I've encountered at other courses. I think that is really something when you have practically 17 unique holes at a course which don't play similar to each other or similar to holes at the 175+ other courses I've played over the last 12 years.

I hear ya Jeff. Kinda funny cause I know a lot of people who love 4, 12 and 16. Its all personal opinion of course. And I love them too. My only complaints about Deer Lakes are hole 4, 12, 13, and 14.
I think all 3 courses we have are top notch!!!
But to really evaluate a course, I think a person needs to play that course at least 10 or so times to really get a feel for it.
All I got to say is Pittsburgh has got it going on!!! And Pymatuning rocks ALSO!!!

"almost every bit as good"
:) lol
ANd the funny thing about some of the complaints from the golfers, is that once person in particular told me how much they liked a certain hole last year at Moraine, and then when they played this year, they said they didn't like it at all.
It's all opinion. But I know that I love being able to play all of these great courses, and Moraine and Deer Lakes have the added bonus that they are not crowded yet!! It's just you and the woods most of the time. And the occasional bear sighting at Moraine!!!

My only complaints about Deer Lakes are hole 4, 12, 13, and 14.
From the white or red tee, hole#4 at Deer Lakes is quite routine. But it's definitely a good hole from the blue tee. I have seen 4s and 5s taken when early foilage was encountered off the tee.
Hole#12 is better when the polehole is in the A or B positions and close to the right-side drop-off. I have personally thrown shots over the edge and bogeyed it from down there.
Bite your tongue about hole#13 and #14! These are two of the most spectacular holes on the course! Have you seen the improvements on these holes lately? I'm willing to bet you haven't. Hole#13 has a new white teepad that was built from the remnants of the washed out bridge, (it's awesome) and the new B pin position makes it a true pro par 4. Hole#14 is now Brittney-bald! The amount of trimming and manicuring work performed recently is astonishing. From the teepad, you can easily see the almost-bare hillside below the basket. There are now two distinct open and fair routes to choose from on the approach, and the new B pin at the top of the hill plays challenging. From the white tee on Friday, I missed a 30-footer for a birdie 4 that I would have been ecstatic over.

for being in the ground for only a year I think the DLDGC would take Moraine in a back alley brawl. Moraine is just tough scoring wise, IMO it doesnt lay a finger to the elevation, fairness in layout, great maintenance, and general overwhelming beauty, amongst other things, of the DLDGC. Moraine has its highlights and is a great course, DONT GET ME WRONG, but I'm taking DLDGC through oddsmakers.com in a shocking upset.
getting to what Jeff said as his one not so hot hole, my thing with #8 is this. As I've discussed with a few others, it has ability to become a score deviator. With the pin in "A", as it was for The Hunt, it is a must 2. Holes like this help separate fields and are as good, sometimes maybe even better, than tough scoring par 4's or 5's. Granted the hole isnt anything superb, but I do believe it serves a purpose.
like I said, I may be bias.

I think Moraine has more beauty than Deer and equally as fair. As for scoring, they both play hard as they should. I think both courses have all fair holes, except 14 at deer Lakes (which I have birdied more than 80%) 14 is just wack. It could be nice, but it's just a crap shoot for the first 450 feet. Then it gets nice. I still wish that the tee for 14 was on top of the hill and the basket was where hole 15's is. Making it the best par 5 in the world :)
They are both great. But the more I play Moraine and Deer Lakes, the more I like Moraine and the less I like Deer Lakes. Which was another thing I heard from a few people this weekend. They said they loved Deer the first time they played, but the more they came back to play it, the less they liked it.

My explanation of Chrissy "Follower". Not very independent in his view and easy to influence.
We love you chrissy

I have seen the new 13 and 14 improvements. I guess its just the overall holes that I don't like. There is such amazing land back there, I would have liked to see it used better I guess??
And I 4'd it on Thursday during my red tee round...it was the only hole I played from the white tee because I thought it was kinda lame from red. :)
I had a streak before the hole was cleared of 6 birdies in a row from the blue tee. That was when it was really nasty. I don't believe I have ever bogeyd it in the 30 rounds I have played there??

scores from this month?!?
Josh....
I'm the one who posts the scores on this message board, however, I was not at Deer Lakes this month. I would be happy to enter the scoring data if someone can get me the scorecards for October. :)

A whole lot of this is better and that is better. How about we have 2 awesome courses that we should be plenty proud of. Plus, everybody had their chance at getting their input in when a handfull of us were busting our butts designing and installing DL. Little to late now. :p

I'm not complaining. The only complaint I do have...is that no one was asked for input before the actual clearing work was done. I think that was what made Moraine so good, 5 people constantly adding input over a year and a half until we could all agree that we had done the best we could with the land we had. No big deal. It is a great course.

We could go back now and find ways we could have made both courses better, I'm just saying that we're lucky to have what we have. We do have 2 incredible courses. A lot of people really like 13 and 14. I guess I'm just get a little disappointed when I hear people saying that they don't like stuff about either course.

AGREED. WE do have the best courses in the world. Any given day I can go and play any of our 3 world class courses.

Great day out there today. Jerry and I tied at 66 for 1st. Last month I won with a 65. That's all I got till scores are updated.

Gotta work on that consistency. You got game, just gotta dial it in. My game isn't so great, but I don't make many mistakes. The only thing that helps me score well. And a few nice putts every now and then.

Thanks for the support and YES, I need to work on my consistency. I think I need to be on the your card more often.
The scores from DL reflected the different pins that have never been in place. Check out C pin on #10, not one par 4. Or at least i've never seen them there. Plus, I left my house in Indiana late, got to the parking lot when i relized i forgot two discs that i use all the time, my FLX Surge and ESP Avenger SS. I would have used my FLX Surge on almost every tee shot.

yeah the weather idiots did issue a watch. It's supposed to rain like an inch or so today, less south of Pittsburgh, and with all the small creeks in the area they throw those watches out like candy on halloween. I wouldnt be too worried as the ground is already saturated, the rain now just runs right off, thus the flood watch.
the real issue is 40% chance of sprinkles/light showers on Saturday morning.

IMO, right now the walk along 17 and 18 is the worst. that underground spring that brings water to the surface is turning those fields into gushy messes. I walk the road til I'm at a 90 with my bee, then right back to the road. That is unless I turn one over and nose dive into the road, then I avoid the field all together! :o

Whew glad I slept in too long....with those scores it must have been bad. See you guys did not use C on 2, it needs more work eh. Stella how many in a row is that for you? Paper or Plastic :D

well, unfortunately, it's plastic. I mean I love new plastic, especially when it's nice black aviars and a sexy pink destroyer, but the second I think there is any chance for me to move up and somewhat compete, I'm gonna do it. I'm just clearly not there yet. yet. :D
as for #2, I just couldnt get there before the monthly. It does look good though. It'll be there for the next monthly for sure.

btw, Ben's 6 on 15 and Ryan's 7 on 18 were both double-circles. They formed a club. :D
... don't ask about my 10 on 6 during the second round. :o:confused: :mad::confused: :(
What a fun day of golf at the DLDGC.
and to all the haters saying "You ain't gonna be able to play hockey after this..." I'll let it be known that I ran my behind off, scored a goal, and helped the Shockers get a 4-1 victory. we're now 8-0.
Here's to playing the Ironwood and missing playoffs. Guess you have to have priorities.

"36 degrees and muddy" is being quite generous - footing was pretty much horrendous everywhere. The only wintertime monthlies I'll be attending in the future will be at Moraine because it drains very well. Casual rounds are one thing, but when money is on the line, I will avoid Knob Hill and Deer Lakes from January until May each year.

Horrendous?? That was just ever so slightly bad. Oh we can give you horrendous, just head to Knob this week.
And here is my question...do I just play better in the bad conditions or does it just bring everyone down to my level?? Never figured it out. But I know from over the last 14 years of playing, that KB and myself always seem to perform the best in the crappy condition.
And oh yeah...Glad you could make it Jeff...hell of a Pens game that night you got to see.

The truly funny thing about me caddying is that I'd
probably do it, but, if I show up at all at the course
and there is a bee within my reach, chances are that I'm
going to throw at least one. One turns to two, two turns

That, right now, would be the worst possible thing I could
do to myself minus doing drugs or intentionally shooting myself.
I have 15 or so days to get this hand together....

Is there a new pin position for hole#15 yet? I've never seen it anywhere but in the 'A'.
jmc2442
May 06 2008, 04:04 PM
funny you should mention that Jeff. That is not the only location on #15, however, it is the only location that has ever been played.
There are a few new locations on our course that have not been utilized that merely need some clearing of debris to be playable.
#3 - Long "C" Pin needs cleared.
#14 - "B" pin to the left of green center needs cleared
#15 - "B" pin is slightly longer to the right of green center tucked away in the brush... that needs cleared.
After I move to my new apartment this weekend and get settled I will eventually have a little bit of time on my hands. Unless someone/a group of someones step up before then I am going to clear some of the forementioned....

#3 - Long "C" Pin needs cleared.
#14 - "B" pin to the left of green center needs cleared
While variety is always nice, these holes are already so challenging and demanding that I don't think anyone is in any rush to see these utilized. The 'C' pin on hole#14 especially seems quite unnecessary and may add a 1/2 stroke par to the hole and make it an awkward par 5.5. Imo, this position should only be utilized in tournament play.
The same will likely be said for #3C.
jmc2442
May 06 2008, 04:53 PM
the rush is not there Jeff, thats why it has not happened as of yet. There are other things that need done like constant stick and debris removal, etc.
you are right, #3C will only be used in tourney play and occasionally mid summer months when footing and weather is not a factor and the locals get bored. :D
I have to disagree on #14C... from the Blue "C" position is a tough par 5 but it's more than doable.
The "B" pin is slightly shorter on the other side of the green center from "C". It is also not tucked away in the trees like "C" is. I believe you may have actually seen the location of "B" via the PVC plumb post in the ground last time through.
15 and 14 "B" are the ones that I'd like to see completed as they are great everyday locations.
so if there is any question as to too far, too tough, I can borrow your words of wisdom...
we like TRUE par 4's and 5's. That's how the 724 reps it!

Note to anyone: Do Not try to walk out into the lake! I played a round Sat afternoon from the blues for the first time. Played a decent round, then got to hole 15. Threw a white KC Roc and looked good, until it hit the last tree limb on the right and deflected it into the center of the lake. I could see it in the lake, but no sticks long enough to reach. It was a nice day, sunny and warm, so I thought I'd try to wade out a little to reach it with my trusty stick. Too a step out and wasn't so bad, then another... so far so good. Then I took another step and was knee deep in mud. I think that lake has a few feet of loose mud. So if you throw a disc in there and can't reach it with a stick, don't try to wade out to it. If I had my kayak with me I could get out to it, but believe that boats aren't allowed in the lakes.
jmc2442
May 13 2008, 12:52 PM
NO BOATS. NO PEOPLE.
the soot in the bottom of the lake develops SO quickly. You can see your disc the day you throw it, next day its covered. The "gook" is EXTREMELY "gooky" and the potential for being stuck is definitely there. STAY OUT. you've been warned. Also, game commission sees you, good luck with that one. Fine is ABSOLUTELY coming your way.
Also, there are snappers in there the size of garbage lids. thats no fish tale. SO good luck with those too. :D
gotcha
May 13 2008, 01:03 PM
If your name is on the disc, you have a decent chance of getting it back at a later date. From time to time, the park manager goes out in his boat to retrieve discs from the lake. I've heard if a name is on the disc, it goes to the club....no name on the disc, it becomes the park manager's disc! :D

This is directed towards Jerry...
Jerry, Stella deuced #18 with a skip shot and the best part about it was, Stella not paying the dollar for the eagle pot. :D:D:D
So, instead of leaving with approx. $100 he left with his tail between his legs.
Sid O. pulled a Goocher and handed him a buck for his efforts.

Wow, that is awesome!!!
I'm assuming 'A' pin? Blue tee or white tee?
jmc2442
Jun 17 2008, 08:11 AM
yes, "A" pin from the White Tee. Long straight Diablo DT drive to the middle-right side of the fairway (leaving me a slight lefty hyzer into the basket). Threw the Star Whippet as a skip shot to get it close for birdie and the rest is history. I've actually done it once before in a casual round, but no one was around to see it...
guess there is no refuting it now.

KB and I tied at 66. Joe McLaughlin 67, and a bunch tied at 71.
We had 11 Open. I am not sure of the AMS, Sid has the scores.
For the Libby open, we played the original 18 holes along with a final 9 on the front 9 from the Blue Tees. I shot a 30, KB 38. J Gary 32, and Sid a 34.
So, I won by 7 strokes, J Gary 2ns, KB 3rd and Sid 4th.
It should be noted that Stella got his butt whooped by Lori and Allana on the final 9 holes. I believe Josh shot a 44, and Lori a 37 and Allana a 36!!!!

I believe it was Libby, Sid, J Gary, and Gibby all tied at 71. Joe and Gibby did not play the Libby Open.
Recreational...Lori and Scott Hartle tied for 1st with a 77. 4 players in that division.
And for advanced I think Josh Charlton won with a 63? And he wins the "best wedding soup at a monthly" award. Thanks Josh. I needed that badly while waiting for that foursome that seemed to get lost out there in the woods to finally finish the round.

I started on hole 1 and had a pretty good front nine. Lucky to have gotten some birds to make up for the bogeys on the back! Hole 17 was back-hand air shot with an Orc which went long and left of the pin.....almost to the creek beyond the green. It's easy to overdrive now with that nice-*** tee pad! :D

Woot Woot!!!
Fun weekend. Got to play with people I rarely get to play with at the Monthly which was a nice change. Good to have some new players in the area stepping up their game.
And had a blast at Gifford Pinchot on Sunday with Allana and Sid.

From the desk of STELLA...
WWWWWHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAT YYYYYYYIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNZZZZZZZZZZZ?!?!?
GREAT NEWS ON THE DLDGC FRONT!
The following baskets were moved by DS and myself last night for a new monthly layout this weekend:
01 - B
10 - C
12 - A
15 - B
16 - C
17 - A
the rest had frozen locks and/or were buried. With the little daylight we had time was not on our side to tinker around. I will hopefully move the remainder with some WD-40 and a little muscle tonight when I play a round. If the locks cooperate the full layout will be as follows:
01 - B
02 - B
03 - B
04 - B
05 - C
06 - C
07 - C
08 - B
09 - B (on the edge of the path by the dropoff hillside , think thats cool smiley
10 - C
11 - C
12 - A
13 - B
14 - B
15 - B
16 - C
17 - A
18 - B
hope to see a great turnout this saturday. Weather is looking great!!!
Stella.
btw, if anyone wants to meet up around 430-5 tonight to play and move the remaining baskets let me know. jmc2442@yahoo.com or give me a call, that is if you have my number.
