Greetings!
The Skylands Flying Disc Club ( http://www.nynjdiscgolf.com ) is proud to announce that registration for the Skylands Classic is now open!
This years' event is a Pro/Am PDGA 'A' tier, with spots reserved for each division offered. Any divisions not filled by midnight June 23rd will be opened up to all other offered divisions. The field is limited to 90 players, so early registration is strongly recommended.
The flyer (with pre-reg information) can be found here: http://www.nynjdiscgolf.com/Events/Skylands_Classic_Flyer_07.doc
The format will be the same as last year's NT event at the Brakewell Steel/Warwick Town Park discgolf course in beautiful Warwick, NY, with two rounds each day starting off with our 'Allstar' layout featuring the best layout for each hole. The course has a challenging mix of wooded and open terrain over moderate elevation changes, along with permanent long and short tees and baskets on every hole.
Information for lodging, players party, and other specifics will be available soon.
For more information, or if you are interested in being a sponsor for this event contact:

Disc Golf Monthly will be covering this event for it's airing in October of this year. The event was covered for its prominence last year (NT event)and will be covered again this year in an effort to capture the club spirit of the Skylands Flying Disc Club.
Looking forward to seeing all who come to play and volunteer at the 2007 Skylands Classic at Warwick Town Park.

Hi All!
Here is the LINK (http://www.nynjdiscgolf.com/new_site/skylands_classic.php) to our site for lodging/camping.
The Pro waitlist is now open for all offered Pro divisions until midnight, June 28th.
The AM wait list is then open until midnight July 1rst. After that, any spots still available will be open for all offered divisions.
If you haven't played Warwick Town Park, NY yet, here's your chance!!
The course is looking sweet, and is every bit of the NT quality course it has always been.
Hope to see you at the Skylands Classic!!
If you'd like to get on the wait list, or have any questions email me at
[email protected]
Unfortunately, our host hotel, the Warwick Hotel, went up in flames last night, so this will not be available, but there is plenty of other lodging listed on our site. Any other TD's have their Host Hotel burn down 2 weeks before the event??
See you there! -Adam

If anyone is interested, I MIGHT be able to take one person for the weekend (or 2-3 if anyone doesnt mind sleeping on the floor). I'm staying at my parents house and just have to check the situation for that weekend. They wont mind some other golfers crashing there. Shoot me a message on here or or send me a private message.
Adam
Jun 23 2007, 02:21 AM
Thanks for offering that up, Ian! Don't anyone please take the fact that the Warwick Hotel was destroyed think there is no where to stay-there is other lodging listed on our site close to the course.
Maybe some locals can put up a couple of people also, I usually do but this year I'll probably be too busy with running the event, but in this area, especially around the 4th of July, it's slow around here as far as lodging..it's prime time Jersey shore that weekend.
I'm getting emails and registrations fast and furious tonight, so you all know. Get on the AM waitlist quick if you are considering coming to this event..and the Pro field is getting close.
I suggest registering PayPal, you don't want to have a check come in a day late.
It's on the Flyer, but if using PayPal send payable to
[email protected] and include in comments name, pdga#, division and method of contact.
Also please add $2.50 PayPal fee, it adds up if you don't.
Thanks!

Winding down here to get in on the Classic-please reg quick, and if it's full after tonight send a message to my email
[email protected] to get on the wait list!
Once it's full, please don't pay through PayPal to get on the waitlist-verbal is good enough and then you will be contacted if your name comes up!
Can't wait to see you all at Warwick, here is some boring details ......
At midnight, June 28th tonight (in 3 hours), we go to the AM wait list. This will be for any AM women's spots not filled to be able to expand the AM Men's division.
If it happens that there are still some spots open, ALL divisions offered will be fair game for any division at midnight, July 1st to be expanded. A little confusing, I know but it is the fairest way I see to give everyone a chance. The split is 60/30, Pro/AM offered but can vary after that date. The event is near full after tonight.
So...we go to the AM wait list in < 3 hours!
That will probably fill, but if there are drop outs or Pro spots not filled, they go to the first on the wait list, be it AM or Pro so- when either divs fill, get on the wait list-you know how at last minute something can come up and people have to drop out for some reason.
Until midnight July 1rst, Pros cannot take AM spots, or vice-versa.
Last chance to get a refund will be July 3rd if something comes up and you can't make it. We need some advance notice for others to fill your spot.
At this time, do not pay through PayPal on the AM waitlist, verbal is good enough, then you can pay once you are in.
Good luck everyone!!

P.S.---
The course will be in Prime Shape...same layouts as the NT event!
Day 1- R1 Skylands Allstar R2 B-B. Day 2- R1 B-S, R2 S-B
S= Silver (Short)
B= Blue (Long)
Allstar is a mix of the best layouts on each hole....

Did Avery Jenkins just shoot a 55 on the Blue-Blue layout and break Brian Schweberger's course record of 56?
(Although one must realize that hole 4 Blue-Blue was a pro par 4 when Schwebby shot his round of 56, and the hole currently plays as a par 3)

Yeah, where's the Brinster man? His home course right in his backyard...that's worth throwing through a little shoulder pain. Nice win by Avery, good comeback Schweb. Good to finally see Mose play some real golf on that course after it's been kicking his [censored] the last few years.

Full results..
Yeah Mitch, it was really sad seeing Brinster following around his people on his home course unable to play. He hurt his pec during the Toronto Open which he played through and took 2nd, but it put him on the DL for the Skylands Classic.
What a weekend, phew! First time having a significant role in a real tournament, and it was quite an adventure. Had a few hiccups on the way (mostly internal, thankfully) but a lot of lessons learned and from the outside looking in, I can say with confidence that most would agree we did an okay job and lived up our reputation.
Not yet sure what 2008 has in store, but for anyone looking to be wooed by a small group of dedicated dgers with the a beautiful and challenging course, look no further than the Skylands Classic at Warwick.
Oh yeah, big props to all our winners - local Jen Padham (of the Skylands Classic DVD fame - yeah karma!!), local Sean Healy putting together 4 sick rounds well over his average (but not his capability) Miss consistant Des (I wish I were half as good as her), Joey Mela (please teach me a roller), and Avery Jenkins with an unfathomable 55 blue to blue (usually what I shoot on the back 9) - really, really awesome to watch.
Also got to meet some new folks..
Robbie - twis nice meeting your folks..have fun in NYC.
Schwebbie - Ashley rocks!! Glad you guys were able to make the trek up.
The Readings, Avery - thank you for the J Hancocks - it'll def help during my next auction.
Feldberg - siiiiiick ACE on Hole 1 Blue to Blue (340' UPHILL,) sorry for re-breaking your wrist w/ my handshake, and thanks for the sigs as well..
Oh yeah, we couldnt have done it without all the volunteers who helped during the preceding months, weeks, days, during the event, and afterwards. You folks are always underappreciated..Thank you (you know who you are.)
K, I hear my bed calling. I'm nearly falling as sleep as I type thissssssssssssssssss.......................
PS: J-Park Jammer next week..be there. ;-)

WOW what a great Tournament (as USUAL) I played with Avery when he broke my record, it only seemed fiTTing, he did 2 hole 4, the only change from when I shot 56. He did not get into any REAL trouble the entire round, the main key to shooting hot on the B-B is getting 3's on 14 and 15 and a 4 on 18 and he did all that. Big Props to Avery, he lost his Mini and used one of mine all weekend.....I Want iTT back Avery !!!!!

Does anyone know if Jen and her crew got video of this for another DVD? Last year's was great and with the way Avery shot, and Schweb's comeback round, I'd love to see another. Especially with Feldberg ace footage. You guys are sick.

Just want to thank everyone involved in the tournament. It has been amazing both years I have played it......If someone told me I would never cash @ this even I would still come back year after year after year due to the amazing feel of the tournament and all the amazing people who put in all kinds of time to make it the event that it is!!! Sick 55 on Blue to Blue Jenkins......You got hosed on the rating!!! Thanks to the Brinsters for setting us up with a place to stay at the Mecca boys house.........Its was nice to not have to pay for a room all weekend.....especially since I played so poorly..........I will be attending this tournament every year that its possible for the rest of my career and maybe just maybe one day ill keep all but one of my rounds in the 50s.......HAHAHA
Thanks again for everything Skylands Crew!!! See you next year!!!

No DVD this year for the Classic.
Jen actually got to play this year and won Adv. Women.
Instead, dgflicks is working on a new project: the 2007 Beaver State Fling, BSF (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Board=Other PDGA Topics&Number=705156&Searchpage=0&Main=705156&Sear ch=true&#Post705156).

Sick 55 on Blue to Blue Jenkins......You got hosed on the rating!!!
Thanks for the words, all!
When Shweb shot 56 at the 2002 New York States the course was way tougher, I think he was the one that got hosed then with only a 1049 rating for it. There were no cement tees, hole 7 had 15 more trees, hole 5 had 10 more trees, hole 14 had the huge beehive tree in the gap (which is now completely gone), hole 10 had about 5 more trees in play, hole 4 was 100+ feet further, bringing OB way more into play, hole 8, 8 more trees, the list goes on and on. Not to mention, if you got off the fairways it was 5X tougher to recover. So in my book, that was still the most impressive round at Warwick.
Nate Doss tied at the 2006 Skylands Classic and got a 1057 rating, but the field had about 7 of the the top 10 rated players in the world competing, and it poured with rain on and off all weekend.
More trees were removed or fell down before this years event, so the 55 Avery shot was rated 1057 also in perfect (although hot) weather. Still VERY impressive and it is the record, also the AM1 field was mostly locals that know how to play that course also did well on the Blue-Blue layout, so maybe that affected the rating, I don't know.
The highest rated round I can see ever shot at Warwick is Mosers' 48 (1068) on the allstar layout at this years Classic, a tough par 60. I can't see that ever getting beat if the layout stays the same.
Keep that bagtag displayed, Shweb..and if anyone sees someone with a Brooklyn Brewery hat, you know where they got it!!

I'd like to thank all of you for travelling far for this years Skylands Classic! It was a great experience being the TD for a Super Tour coming off such a great reputation as an NT event!
The pressure was on, and although I know the behind-the-scenes glitches, hearing from the players that it went smooth is music to my ears!
Some reasons why I have more gray hair:
A HUGE Family reunion beat us to the punch and reserved Tourney Central Pavillion for the first day. They cancelled 48 hours before the event! That was a major parking/crowd control concern!
Our host hotel had a devastating fire 2 weeks before the event...sorry a lot of you had to scramble for accomodations after making the reservations.
A series of T-storms >1 week before the event felled trees in fairways, the parks backhoe got a flat tire and could not be moved 4 days before the event blocking hole 11's right fairway, there was an unexpected week-long event at Tourney Central preventing us from setting up until late Friday afternoon...and about 10 other glitches that all miraculously were resolved just hours before the event! A challenge to say the least!!
I would like to thank all our sponsors and volunteers that made me look good, special thanks to Jeannie Helseth who put together a really good AM players pack, did most of the registration and was key to making the scoring so smooth. The scoreport and scorecard system was her creation that is now standard at our events.
Steve Brinster and Lesli Demark for getting some great sponsorship and Lesli for finalizing the Players Party details among a lot of other stuff. Matt McCleod for endlessly working with me on the tee sign sponsors and graphics, Derek Fats Sonderfan for staying up until midnight getting the program details right for us at the last minute, Maureen Mcearlen for printing the programs, scoring and general helping with a lot of stuff, Dave Roach, Luke Tanner, Greg Kraver and the cooking crew, a lot went into that, and of course Dan Doyle for the great sponsorship, advice and financial tracking help. Also thanks to TD veteran in our area Bill Newman-he helped keep me calm and it was just like him to help with the scoring and add humor to it all!!
All of you were a real big help, and because of these people we pulled this event off. More lessons learned, and if we have it again next year you can bet it will be even better!
And as luck would have it, last minute sponsor Red Bull came through in the 90 degree heat with hundreds of much appreciated free Bulls for all, I'm sure that was needed playing those layouts all weekend!
Thanks to the players that were so cool to our spotters, they thought it was great to have talked to you.
Thanks spotters, sponsors, players, and our good luck coming through in the end!!
See you next year!

DOH!!
Forgot to mention-thanks to my co-TD Fred Doot, I knew I'd forget someone! He had a lot on his plate too running the J-Park Jammer, so now that he's co-TD'd an 'A' tier, the Jammer should be a piece of cake!!
Shweb, I told Randy Krohl aka RAK about how you had the Skylands Classic bagtag hooked on your bag through the Tourney, it made his day! Randy made those up for free, thanks Randy!
