The Majestic will feature the old back nine this year.
For those of you that don't know, a bike path was constructed over the past 3 years that cut right thru some classic holes that make Kaposia what it is. The construction is done and it will have the old school feel of years past. The Gorge shot is no longer (to steep) but we will still be bombing off the tee to a different basket placement.
Short pins then long will make for a exciting day of Kaposia golf.
Didn't get in to the Majestic? Watch the highlights on DGTV then buy the DVD a few months later.

Old School Kaposia!! I haven't had a chance to play the old layout, being newer to the game.
After this event TG will be having another sweet one this fall at Telemark (Cable, WI). I wouldn't be surprised to see another 20 or more 1000+ players there too.

Pros traveling to Minnesota might be planning to zip up to Highbridge on Sunday night or Monday morning after the Majestic to check out the Worlds courses. The owner, John Jokinen, has offered to put players up in the Honka house for $10/night person for any nights from Sun-Tue, June 3-5. Contact John at 715-274-2500 or [email protected] He can handle about a dozen players in the house. If he gets a good response, he'll make sure the pins are in the Worlds positions for the holes that are ready.

The temp holes will be up at Hyland from Wednesday thru Sunday. Hyland will be closing the ball golf range after the lunch rush on Wednesday and Thursday and it will be closed all day Friday.

Kapsosia will have 2 baskets on 5, 6, 7, 8 for practice all week. The temps will be up Friday morning on the old back nine. They will all be marked clearly but without baskets till Friday.

The Sundog Tournament series will be at Kaposia on Tuesday and Hyland on Thursday. The Ace pool is around $600 and we average 90 players so by Thursday it will be over $700. Flex start from 3-5pm, shotgun at 6pm. Its like a c tier every Tuesday night!

Our Westside league will be at Hyland on Wednesday, all 24 holes will be played, ace pool is fat there too.

As Brad posted, Doubles Friday at Kaposia and player check in.

The whole week is alot of fun. The 10 day forecast is looking good thus far. The local news will be all over the event as well as our DGTV crew. This is one special event that you simply should never miss.

Only a few spots left in the Pro field (open, master, women ect..)

Please email me directly with important questions as I do not check the board all that much. [email protected] or [email protected] or call 612-281-3192.

Tropical storm Barry is bearing down on Florida this weekend. Will it extend to Barry storming the Majestic?

moolie
Jun 02 2007, 04:56 PM
No Barry at the majestic this year. I just escapped the hail storm at Kaposia and Barry is not playing. Orum shot a smoking -13 to lead the first round with Locastro, Feldberg, The Champ, Cale, Barsby, AO, Gill and Warren ,not necesarly in that order, following. Play was halted one hole into the second round. Weather appears to be clearing and should get moving again shortly.

ck34
Jun 02 2007, 08:33 PM
Unfortunately, nasty weather returned with peak storm action moving right over the pro fields at Kaposia dropping up to nickel size hail. Might have some interesting stories once they complete the round and dry out. (I was at home nearby working on PW2007 stuff.) The Ams across town may not have gotten the brunt of the storm but were much more exposed on the ski hill.

they finished playing about 8:40pm local time, who knows when a scoring update will get done, the park does close at 10pm so they'll have to go home at some point after that.

The ams only got rained on for our final 2-3 holes with no delays (although there probably could've been one), i personally enjpyed watching the pitch black clouds move across the horizon to our east (where kaposia lies) and appreciate the freaky difference ten miles can have on the weather.

dischawk20
Jun 02 2007, 11:52 PM

Word is that Cale hit a 60-ft putt on the 9th hole to force a tie. But The Champ prevails on the 4th hole of sudden death to win.

winonaradiosteve
Jun 03 2007, 09:55 PM
Cale sank a 60+ footer on the 9th final hole to send it to sudden death, after Ken tried calling Cale for spiking his disc in the ground during the celebration of his made putt, but none of the other 6 players would give him a second on the ruling. Both players had 30-footers for birdie on the 4th playoff hole but cale's went off the basket and Ken sank it for win. It was Cale, Climo, Locastro and Yeti in the final 4 for the men (not feldberg). Des won the women's division. not real sure how the rest of the field ranked out but watch it all on discgolftv.com

On hole 3 of the final 9, des thew a shot on the ~300ft straight down a ski hill hole which skipped short and right of the basket, jumped up and crashed chains, rattled around and spat it back out for the chain-out on the near ace. Very sweet shot that could have easily stuck in the basket. Probably will be on DGTV soon.

Amazing putt for Cale. Long, downhill 60ft jump putt into the wind that he needed to make to force a tie. Pretty big controversy over the spiked disc - some say he was done with his round so it didnt matter, some say he was between holes since that putt forced a playoff, some say he wasnt done until his card finished. Ken won it in the end anyway so it turned out the same either way, but boy was it fun watchin those last few holes and the 4 playoff holes.

Based on her round ratings, Liz was the only woman in the "correct" division. The other women were essentially Intermediate or Rec Women playing up in Advanced where contenders at A-tiers and higher usually shoot ratings in the 850-900 range.

Cale removed the disc from the basket so his round was completed. The fact he dropped his disc later in the video is inconsequential and not a practice throw. He could have taken his disc from the basket and flung it in the crowd if he wanted to with no penalty (although I'd want to hang on to a disc that made that putt!)

WOW Cale is by far my favorite golfer! To see that kind of emotion is AWESOME! I wish I could have 1/100th of that kind of emotion about the game again.

Now that I have seen the spike of the disc, how in the world could Kenny possibly try and call him on that. When I first read it I figured it was a huge spike that may have sent the disc rolling, or dangerously shooting into the crowd. That just looked like he dropped it. Jeeeeez Champ give the kid some props instead of making sour grapes out of it. It was a great PUTT!

Holy crap what a putt.

BOOOO for calling that. That's not even close to anything illegal.

1. The round is complete.
2. The disc didn't travel far enough even if the round wasn't complete to be called within rules (so it looked).

AO called me last night and told me the whole thing and I thought it was like right after the putt and he slammed it and rolled etc etc (which wouldnt have mattered b/c his round was complete), but it was WAY after the putt and he barely through it.

12-time world champion Ken Climo has been nothing but the consummate sportsman and ambassador for our sport over the last two decades, but after having an entire tournament wait for him earlier this year, Ken has no business calling Cale on this. It was clearly not a practice throw, Cale had already holed out anyway, and it's a long stretch to say that was a courtesy violation.

Technically the round is not over until he reports his score to the scorekeeper and the card is added up and turned into TC for verification of a playoff! If the scorecard can incur a 2 stroke penalty(804.03 F) for being turned in late then the card is still active. But I can see why no body seconded the call.

In ball golf you can throw your ball into the crowd for a great finish or into the water for that matter, but if you struck the ball with your club into the water it would be a penalty. In disc golf since any motion with your body and the disc is considered a throw then any movement could be considered a throw.

Avery Jenkins was stroked by Dave Feldberg last year in the Willamette Open for kicking his disc towards the basket, unfortunately for Avery the kicked disc took flight and hit chains and stuck! Avery finished behind Dave by one stroke!

I already asked a member of the RC earlier today and the round was over when the player holes out on the final hole of a round, in terms of whether a player can be called for a practice throw after that. Courtesy violations can be called after holing out for interfering with those who are still playing. A player can play catch in the parking lot after the round before the TD checks the scorecard and posts it.

But CHUCK, don't you think as a PLAYER that call was BS?

But say on a shotgun round start, where a group starts on a hole opposite course to TC, finishes their round and plays a few holes on the way back to TC. Is this ok or is it a grey area that the rules don't specify but TD's look down on?

In ball golf you can throw your ball into the crowd for a great finish or into the water for that matter, but if you struck the ball with your club into the water it would be a penalty. In disc golf since any motion with your body and the disc is considered a throw then any movement could be considered a throw.

That's not correct. In golf, the USGA rules allow you to practice putting after you have holed out on a hole as long as you don't hinder play behind you. Or you can chip on or near the teeing ground during the round between the play of holes. This is striking a ball with a club and is not a penalty. You see it all the time in major AM events.

For major stroke play events they institute a local rule that prevents practice putting due to the time it takes for the rounds to complete. However, you can still see pro's chipping around the tee when there are long waits or even bouncing the ball off the club head killing time while they are waiting.

There are even cases where the pro's throw their ball back on the green and knock it in the water when they are done. As kind of a here you can have it now sort of deal. But no penalty.

Once you have holed out on your last hole in ball golf the round is considered complete. The player is free to do what he choses. The only thing left to do is check and sign the scorecard which has some very specific rules of it's own. Such as signing for a hole score lower than you made is a DQ and if it's higher well the score stands. Never really figured that one out.

In ball golf, you can practice on a green after holing out as long as it doesn't hold up the following group. However, you cannot practice on the course once the tournament starts. In disc golf, you can practice any holes before and after your round starts with the exception of events like the USDGC where the course is technically off limits once players start to tee off in the morning. Different rules between the two sports on this issue. The only reason I would be concerned with players practicing holes on their way back from a finished round would be if their play interfered with other players still playing on that course or one with holes close by.

I'm not a disc golf rules expert but I'd have to say you should be able to play your way back. Your allowed to practice putting, driving or whatever until 2 min is sounded before the next round starts. Or even go over and play a alternate 18 during the break between rounds.

In ball golf the only time you could do this is if the tournament was over. Otherwise it's considered practicing on the course which results in automatic DQ.

Too many great memories to say on here.
In 14 years of DG, I must say that "The Roar" from the crowd was like no other our sport has seen. We had 10+ cameras rolling with great angles, the Majestic DVD will be available later this summer with all the action.
Simply incredible!

I can't say it enough, THANK YOU TO MY STAFF!!!!!!

Did Jay and Nikko play off for third, it seems the PDGA sort has identified the last round score for tie breaks and not the money listing!

From watching the clip on Disc Golf Tv (http://www.discgolftv.com/dgtv/222/2/10) I can understand what you mean by the roar, rumor has it that a similar roar errupted on the west course at Milo Mciver when Dave Feldberg hit his 50 footer out of the bushes to force a 3 way tie to end regular play for the Beaver State Fling, in which Nate Doss ended up winning on the first hole. I was in the scoring tent at TC far from the 18th green but I heard the crowd after which I can only assume was his made putt.

I can't wait to get my hands on the 2007 Minnesota Majestic DVD and the BSF DVD, two of the greatest finishes in a long time! Thank you Disc Golf TV for catching great shots on camera and feeding the frenzied disc golf fans who just want to see disc golf on TV!

There are a lot of people who will be talking about "The Putt" for a long time to come. I feel fortunate to have witnessed it. It is something that I will surely never forget. Cale coming back from three strokes down in the last four holes of the final nine to force the playoff in front of the home crowd. I got goose bumps when Des smashed chains and popped out on her down hill drive, and then to see that putt go in and Cale's reaction, like Tanner Duncan said immediately afterwards, "That's a Sportscenter Moment". I couldn't agree more. If Disc Golf got the recognition it deserves, that would be the play of the day in all of sports, if not the play of the week.

Awesome event, great finish by Cale and Klimo. I know that people are thinking that was a busch league move by Climo to try to call Cale on that, and then on the last hole, questioning whether or not the putting green near the basket was OB or not, but he definitely deserves a ton of credit for his continued stellar play against a fierce competitor and the overwhelmingly biased home town crowd. It just shows how great of a golfer he is in all types of environments.

Anyway, can't wait to get my copy of 2007 Majestic DVD, and to see more action on DGTV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still think this putt from last year was pretty amazing because you can't see the basket from where he is standing.
Cale's awesome putt from the '06 majestic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmGO_WO8kes)
This year's putt is better because of the situation tho,

Doc,

There is a rule around this as well, as you have 25 minutes to get your card back to the TD after completing your final hole.
In that 25 minutes, you need to tabulate the scores.

Especially on some shotgun starts, this can be a bit of a challenge (especially for those like I who are a bit on the portly side).

Thank you,

SEnk

(That was great to see the excitement surrounding that putt, especially considering the circumstance. IMO the round was over, no practice throw.)

There would be a playoff for third only if there was a trophy for third. And then they'd still split the money. Assuming anybody follows the rules anymore. :D

After watching that clip and hearing the roar it was the sweetest moment I've witnessed watching clips on my computer ever!

Please don't tell me Climo tried to penalize him for the throw into the ground after the celebration?
If so, really weak!!

As high a profile that Cale has in this sport, he should know better to throw his disc into the ground like that anyways. It was an awesome putt and it was awesome seeing the crowd respond to it. Kenny had every right to call him on it though. Next time he hits a 60 footer to go into a playoff, Im sure he'll think twice about throwing his disc into the ground again. Im sure Kenny could have gotten him on a delay also. either way, I was glad to see the champ take it on the first playoff hole anyways. :D

since there was no rule infraction, he had no right to call anything. And it was the 4th playoff hole not the 1st.

It was hardly a throw, more like he dropped it b/c he was about to faint from running so fast and believing that the putt actually was good. Was not a good call from The Champ in most peoples eyes.

Your right, after looking at it again it wasnt more than half a minute anyways. I also forgot that putt ended the round . I stand corrected. It looks like there was only one playoff hole in the results though and not 4.
