Looks like the event is starting to fill up. Make sure you get in before it's full. Time is running out.

By the way, it looks like this is going to have an awsome Open field.

I'm going to try and make it up there again this year but I dont have a commission check coming till close to tournament time (end of May) so I may not be able to make it :(.The players party at the Rodeway Inn last year was great $1.00 beer - Big Sky Moose Drool- part of the reason that I fell apart on the last round sunday morning. :D

Mr. Bird posted on mile high that the am side is quickly filling but the "PROcrastinators" side is eeking its way along. Come on peeps, it's the biggest event of the weekend for pros!

you'll like the courses Matt. Optimist is similar to Temple, and Pessimist is the tougher course but I just cant think of anything here that is similar to it.Stay at the Travelodge Inn-where they had players party last year.Good Luck- I may be able to make it but still unsure.

The players party is at the Rodeway every year. The Rodeway and Comfort Inn share the same parking lot, and both are at the entrance to the Pessimist course and about a mile away from the Optimist. You could walk to both courses from the hotels, but who wants to walk more after golf anyway? The numbers for both are listed in my first post, and you should tell them you'll be in town for the disc golf tournament to get the special rates.

Welcome Yeti to the pre-reg list! Thus far we count 8 states represented. Word from the man is that rooms are filling at the Rodeway and Comfort Inn, so make reservations soon!

From John Bird:

If you haven't reserved a room for High Plains Challenge You need to do it ASAP because the hotel is reporting that there are only 19 rooms available at the Rodeway Inn and about 25 available at the Comfort Inn.

Mention: Mile High Disc Golf for tournament rates

Host Hotels:

Comfort Inn (1 mile from courses), (970) 867-6700, $89.95
Rodeway Inn (1 mile from courses), (970) 867-9481, $60.00

again from John Bird:

The hotels in the Fort Morgan area are getting full (Rodeway Inn is full) The Comfort Inn has some (10) of the executive King rooms left $109-$139.

The Brush Microtel (10 miles east of the course) has a few rooms still available some for about $50- $60.

The FM Super 8 has some some rooms available and is just down the street from the course. Thursday before the event some more rooms may become available.
Here is a website with contact info for all the local hotels.

Because I don't know how many of you need rooms I can't block rooms so if you don't have a room already you need to get busy finding a room.

From John Bird:

THE AMATEUR POOL IS CLOSED!!!! A WAITING LIST HAS BEEN STARTED. To get on the waiting list you must contact John Bird.

The registration for High Plains Challenge is picking up and we now have registered players from UT, NC, MT, MN, NE, IA, KS, WY, GA, IL and CO. It looks like this year our Pro divisions is be bigger than the past years, 63 Pros officially entered and I know of at least a half dozen more that have sent their entries in. The Amateur side of the event will be limited to 90 spots so at this time we are full.. The last amateur spots will be determined by the time and date of the payment received and not by the registration online and then a payment later. After we are full we will start a waiting list for those that want try to sneak in.

This year we will be raffling off 3 USGDC ROCS ( 1 little wing, 1) Twinwings and 1 ) USDGC ROC, for fundraising for the tournament and one of the lucky HPC qualifiers for the USDGC invitations will also get their entry fee paid from the raffle.

There will be 5 qualifying spots available for the USDGC 2007 and if there is a tie for the fifth spots there will be a playoff for that spot. If the tied players are all in the final 9 round then the player with the best score will win the fifth spot for the USDGC qualifier. If there is still a tie at the end of the Final 9 then there will be a play off starting at Hole # 7 of the normal Optimist Course. To qualify for the USDGC invitations you must play in the same pool as the Pro division.

Currently we have $2,800 cash sponsorship for the tournament along with merchandise and more to come.

Tentative Event Schedule:

Thursday June 14 Practice both courses will be set up for tournament play. Beginner and spectator clinic 2pm at Riverside Park.

Friday, June 152-9 p.m.

Practice Doubles Check in and late registration Comfort Inn 4-9 pm ( if spots are available)

There will be a work weekend on the course this weekend Saturday June 9th. There are some modifications on the Pessimist Course and we will Have that info posted next week. We will have the Pessimist Course up Thursday 14th morning this year so people can practice early. Hopefully we will have the layout finalized this Saturday. We have started a volunteer list on the HPC page and let me or Jeff Panis know where you want to volunteer.

Remember to support the tournament with purchasing a rare special edition HPC supporter tag. Players packages will include: special # HPC tag for tag play first 90 ams and the first 60 Pros, disc and shirt

Hope you get your entry in on time.

All the out-of-staters are starting to roll in to Colorado. Welcome to high country! Hope you all make the best of the pessimist... John Bird's course design sometimes makes me wonder if anything else goes on in that head of his...

Course maps for both Pro and Am pools are available for download within the 2007 High Plains Challenge Players Guide. Included in the guide are course maps, event schedule, park guidelines, past photos, city map and more.

The TWIN battle will be on, don't you worry, just not this year. I am hardly playing at all this summer and I am already taking travel time for other ventures.

There's a chance I might be moving before next year somewhere closer. Perhaps next year the twin battle will heat up. It'll be the biggest contest in pointless disc golf better ever!

you guys have a blast, i wish i could be there; the check that I have been waiting to get to go will be here next monday 3 days too late. :( I played this tourney last year and it was in my personal top 3 for must play tourneys forever. The 1 thing that did confuse me last year was why do the AMs play the tougher course (pessimist) twice? Other than that this tournament was top notch,I will definitely try again next year.Do any of you High Country golfers know when the Copper Open or Frisco tourney is?

Do any of you High Country golfers know when the Copper Open or Frisco tourney is?

Sadly, neither of those tournaments will happen this year.

Copper is being forced to redesign several holes to account for erosion problems, and they did not want the pressure of a set date by which to open. Seems the course will likely open some time this summer, but we don't know when. That makes scheduling a tournament tough.

Frisco was slated to clear the trees on the disc golf course next summer, but it sounds like that's been pushed up. They've had a really bad pine beetle infestation in Summit County, and the Frisco nordic peninsula (where the course is) has been hit especially hard. I'm not sure if the course is open this summer.

Congrats Mikey, how's married life??????
Hasnt changed your game I see!!!!!!!!

btw,
what happened to Matt Orum, did he miss some holes or something?
Maybe he couldn't get used to the altitude???
I know it took me 30 drives to get one shot turned over the first time I played in Colorado!

Orum had some problems walking. Fort Morgan is at about 4200 feet, like Koz said, so the altitude still affects flight for those used to sea level. There's not much terrain there, but there is some on the Pessimist course due to the river and ponds. People who were more affected by altitude would be Bard Soleng and Carter Allen.

At that elevation putts and upshots seemed to drop and hyzer out very quickly. It was definately confusing to try and adjust to. What I thought were good shots turned out mediocre, and what I thought were mediocre shots turned out to be horrible. I kept playing for a skip and never got one...I felt like a real "Slow learner"... :D

The dust has settled in Fort Morgan and the city has survived a weekend of Disc Golf and frivolity. I am already starting my "to do" list and to get better tee pads on the infamous "Pessimist" course is tops on the list.

We would like to thank all the travelling players for coming out to Colorado and enjoying the play in some altitude 4300 ft. To most of the Colorado players this is going down in elevation but to everyone out of state it is usually going up.

Anyway We will try to keep you informed of how next years events are proceeding. Hope to see you where the "High Plains meet the Big Sky".
Thanks to the mile High Disc Golf Club volunteers
