Hey y'all! Last month, I got an email out of the blue from Lorrie Gibson inviting me to the IDGC dedication (on my own dime, of course). I decided it would be great fun to go, and also to play in the Hall Of Fame Classic. Since it is an NT event, I had to be an active member to compete. The last couple of years my family has had to cut back on non-essential expenses, so I let my PDGA membership lapse, after a 27-year streak. I got a "special dispensation" for this event, since it was a truly one-time only event. I got to see some old friends (some that I haven't seen in almost 20 years), and play some brutally awesome courses! Those of you who didn't attend really missed an historic event!
So, I will be perusing the board now, something that I haven't done in quite awhile, and I may post occasionally (at least as long as my 2007 membership will allow :p )
Well, enough about me, anything I should know about? I guess the 2 big rules changes are that the 2-meter is only in effect if invoked by the TD, and that it can be applied to specific objects if so specified; and that there is a stroke-and-distance option for lost discs. Any more significant rules additions/changes/deletions? Anything big going on with the Association or the sport? I know about Brian and Lorrie leaving and Brian G. taking over. Anything else? Any questions for me? I will try and avoid any controversies - that's what got me into hot water a few years ago (no, I will not comment on that).
For the newbies, I love dissecting rules and giving my 2 cents worth on them, when I have the time, which I don't have much of these days. I have been around awhile, and I still consider myself a disc golfer, even though I don't play or compete much anymore.
Finally, many thanks to Rhett for helping me figure out how to log on again!

Stoke and distance is now the only option for lost discs, so I'm not sure it can be called an option.
The unplayable lie rule also changed quite a bit.

Oops, my bad. I was thinking about OB, I guess. Not a good start for a DGRZ, huh.
Any news in the Metroplex? I have heard about the course John Houck laid out in Rockwall. Any other new courses? Is the back 9 in at Crawford? If so, any tee signage or is it easy to tell where the next tee is?

There are three new courses going into Mesquite parks this summer. Final walk thrus were done last week and the designs have been approved for installation. The parks dept is planning to have them installed by Labor Day. One will be a tournament level 18 hole course (blue and white tees) and the two 9 hole courses will be suitable for beginner and advanced play.
The Mesquite parks dept has expressed interest in more courses if these do well.
Samuel Crawford Park is getting great support from the parks dept there. The parks dept is now doing all of the repair work on any baskets that are damaged, and are providing the tee signs and course kiosk. They have committed to adding more benches and trash cans along the course as well.
They are also open to having a few more courses added in the undeveloped areas of that park. There are a couple of hundred acres available for disc golf, all we need is the money for baskets.

Bill,
I think all those questions and more could be easily answered if you book a trip out West to the PDGA Major that is dedicated exclusively to old farts, The U.S. Masters Disc Golf Championships.
Bring a convoy of Texas Old Farts with you, as Pro and Am divisions are both offered. :)

hey Bill, good to have you back.
FYI, they have planted a tree at Jimmy Porter for Biff. Little Mikey was working on getting a dedication stone for it last I talked with him.

Bill,
Welcome back! Good to hear from you again. I know of an MSN group that would also love to hear a word from you.
P.S.- I wonder how many people there are on here with 3 digit (or fewer) PDGA numbers?

Bryan,
I went by Sparkman/Hillcrest on Biff's birthday a few weeks ago. It was kinda rainy/drizzly. Very appropriate, I thought. I had trouble finding him, but finally did. The temporary marker I had found before was still there.
Of course, I still can't make sense of it, but in situations like this, I think of what I read in the Book of Job: "The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord". Maybe his passing was a wakeup call to others in similar situations, I don't know.
I would be interested in knowing where the Biff tree is.

It was going to be planted between 18's basket and the parking lot, so everyone would walk past it after there round.
I have not driven by it to see if they got it in yet. (I know, I work across the street)

Is JP open again? I drove by it last year, and it looked like they were doing some significant work on the creek.

They finished all the construction work last spring. All summer they had irrigation stuff out there and didn't mow all summer. I asked them to do something for the Carrollton open and they did clean it all up, tuesday after the tournament.
The city just did a temp fix on #14 fairway. The creek was only about 10ft from the pond. Now it is a nice slope down to where the creek was when the coures was first put in. This was just a quick fix, and not the major construction scheduled in a few years.
